iBlofeld v1.2 Wireless iPad Editor Now Available & AHNE Demos

"Apple has released iBlofeld v1.2 for Waldorf Blofeld, a free upgrade for all iBlofeld v1.1 and v1.1.1 users.

iBlofeld v1.2 offers:
- a redesigned look & feel for enhanced readability plus some very tiny UI adjustments to make the workflow even better
- parameter default value buttons. In v1.2, if you touch the parameter value label, it resets the label / slider to a default value (ex: VCO wave = Saw; VCF Freq = wide open, etc...) for each parameter... this is the fastest workflow you'll ever get in sound designing!"

How to Make a Giant iPad - MTbiggie

YouTube Uploaded by cerupcat on Apr 10, 2011

"The bigger brother of the MTmini, the Multitouch Biggie (MTbiggie) is a low-cost multitouch solution using:

- 2 chairs
- acrylic sheet
- paper
- projector
- mirror
- computer.

Shadows on the surface are tracked and sent to multitouch applications as touch positions. This technique is known as "front diffused illumination".

While this isn't the most robust and stable multitouch solution, it is a general introduction to the technology.

Mode Machines ASID 64 in Violation of MIDIBox SID Licensing?

This one in via latigid. There is currently a thread on the MIDIBox forum discussing the new ASID64 or ASF-1 from Mode Machines shown at the Musikmesse as being in violation of the MIDIBox licensing agreement. You can see it currently listed on Touched By Sound's website for 1.495,00 € here. What's interesting is the unit first made an appearance during Winter NAMM as seen in this post but may have gone unnoticed until now.

Wilba at the forum who appears to represent MIDIBox states, "I already know about this, and I will comment more on it later."
Followed by TK: "The owner of Mode Machines replies in facebook:

Quote
'Michael Thorpe Hello - I don´t think you are getting the point here. We have not offered the unit furthermore we have only showed a possible version of it and we discussed this beforehand with the owner and designer and also are currently talking to them ...'

These statements are simply not true!

Some months ago we found a MIDIbox SID on the TBS product page. Nils contacted the company, explained the legal status (during a long phone call) and got the answer that they are not planning to sell the MIDIbox anymore. But it can still be found on their page, and now we saw it at Musikmesse as well.

Quote
'we discussed this beforehand with the owner and designer'

false, they never contacted me.

Quote
'and also are currently talking to them ...'

false, they are currently not talking to us (in distance: Nils had to pro-actively contact them some weeks ago and thought that this topic is clarified).
And I must say that I'm not interested to talk with profiteers with such attitude.
Especially since it seems that they have no experience with the MBSID hardware/software - who should support the customers?

Best Regards, Thorsten."

Followed by: "Since some months we consider to change to the TAPR Noncommercial Hardware License, which would allow everybody to build and sell up to 10 units in any 12 month period on a non-profit basis w/o need for a special permission from our side.
Without going too much into details (please open a new thread if you feel that this needs more discussion, but there will be a topic soon anyhow): this license would explicitly allow a professional or hobbyists to build and sell a MIDIbox to another user if he is only paid for his expenses (w/o profit)
It would also make it less complicated to resell a used MIDIbox, no special permission required from our side as long as the NCL isn't violated.

TBS violated the old license (no commercial use without my permission), and they would also violate the new license (e.g. by renaming the project and not mentioning the copyright holders - also the announced price of 1500 EUR somehow doesn't match with the "non-profit" term).

Btw: for the case that you are interested on a MB6582, check this fleamarket sale by Lucem:

Best Regards, Thorsten."

"Station Q: On a Saturday" - Analogue Solutions Station Q Analogue Sequencer #01

YouTube Uploaded by rezfilter on Apr 10, 2011

"Here's the new Station Q analogue step sequencer by Analogue Solutions:

http://analoguesolutions.org.uk/v2/station-q/

Just for fun: "Station Q: On a Saturday" is a short, one-day tune comprised of various Station Q sequences as well as a sequence from the Q's big brother, the Oberkorn MK3.

Most of the music was live and in real-time, however some tracks were recorded to allow for certain transitions to take place (fades). This video wasn't intended to be an in-depth tutorial of the Q, but only a first glimpse.

The Station Q is available now via the Analogue Solutions website and is of the same form factor as the Station X and Station Y mini-modular synthesizers.

As usual, all music is original and 100% analogue."

Note: I know the video itselfs is'nt very great - if someone would do better please contact me.
For insiders: nearly all of the sounds used were done by a Clavia NordWave Synthesizer, mixing in Cubase.

"Christian from KOMA Elektronik shows the prototype of the KOMA BD101 Analog Gate and Delay at the 2011 Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.

KOMA BD101: Mangle and cut your sound apart with an innovative vactrol controlled analog delay circuit in combination with a fully adjustable wide range frequency gate. It sounds like you're playing your instrument on the porch outside of your house and inside your amp is slowly sinking in the toilet, CV controlled of course. This might sound strange, but that's just what this pedal is about: create weird resonant frequencies, shift between heavy delayed sounds and super short pulses, with whatever instrument you want to plug into it. The BD101 comes standard with a solid footswitch, multiple inputs, an audio and control voltage patchbay and our new innovative expression controller."

Farfisa Soundmaker - Italian Analogue Mono-Poly synth

via this auction

"Built from 1979 to 1981, this thing cost around £900 new (this model was bought in 1982, I think I've got the receipt somewhere!) which put it in competition with some pretty serious hardware. It also explains why it's so rare. It was in production until just before MIDI, the Prophet 600 and Juno 106 came along, but looks like it's from an entirely different era. The whole keyboard and front panel are angled slightly forwards, as it was designed to sit on top of a combo organ or piano (although a snazzy stand was also available as you'll see from the promotional literature included)."

I have labeled very simply the basic buttons/knobs but if you know them well you can easily remove these! But they are handy to familiarize initially... It takes 6xAA Batteries and has a really cool multi-colour-changing "on" light."
