Toy Synthesizer Case - Toy Box Demo

YouTube Uploaded by radlers on Apr 22, 2011

"A project long time coming. Dubbed, 'Toy Box' Synthesizer, this do it yourself toy synth case allows me to take the gear on the road. All keyboards are powered via power supply, so no batteries are used. Everything is velcro-ed in place so you can literally carry this around without worrying about stuff falling out. Song demo uses Korg's DS-10 demo music as well as the Bloom music app on the Apple iPod touch. Items that make up the keyboard: Casio SA-1 / PT-1 / SK-8, Nintendo DSi with Korg DS-10 plus, Korg Monotron, Apple iPod with music apps, Behringer mixer with effects on board."

Folktek Arts - The Synergist by Arius Blaze

via Folktek Arts
Folktek on eBay

"The Synergist is a touch synth with 8 osc. and an 8 note polyphony - each tuned in correspondence to one another to create a full body of notes in addition to touch-based noise and time control. The oscillators tie into a delay, the timing of which controls the global pitch of the oscillation (when the time on the delay is lowered or raised, the frequency of all 8 oscillators are lowered or raised accordingly). The delay ranges from extremely tight to a longer approx. 2 seconds (getting gradualy dirty and grimier toward the lower end)

The oscillators can be feedback driven to create decay and the level of all touch points can be lowered or raised to either overload the delay completely or create more subtle background drone. This all helps to mix the level with any incoming sound as the an input signal can be sent into the 1/4" in jack allowing for processing of external sources. The selector switch switches between a variety of clean feedback and altered feedback (altered feedback being a more compressed droning sound)

The result is a piece capable of drone or synth lines, very nasty noise and dub massacre. The layout of the touch plate is designed to make it easily playable in a percussive manner. It's also laid out so that metal pieces (coins work well) can be placed between points to acts as switches for drone or connect points to alter the delay signal.

Here's the things that the bits do:
Delay rate.
Feedback/decay.
Echo/delay switch.
High-pass filter.
Feedback/swell.
Overdrive w/ on-off switch.
Echo on-off switch.
Red power LED
Mood Cube intensity.
Mood Cube rate.
Line in.
Line out.

all that and a 9v battery box fitted into the underside of the cube.

I'm using my baby doll crap-o-matic for the first half and then my Casio SK-1 for the latter portion of the vid."

Barry Schrader Site Updates - Death of The Red Planet - Buchla 200 Audio

Barry Schrader wrote in to let us know his site has been updated with new content and more will follow.

"Of particular interest to your readers will probably be the excerpt from the music for the film Death of the Red Planet (1973), composed on the Buchla 200, and found in the "Free Audio Tracks" section of the site. This music has rarely been heard in the last 38 years, and I've mixed down a portion from the original quad tracks. As far as I know, this was the first quadraphonic electronic music track composed for a commercial film. It toured nationally and internationally with the concert film by the group Yes, Yessongs. There's also a link to the full American Cinematographer article on the film in pdf form."

Update: added image of Death of The Red Planet & updated the title. This post originally went up at 10:13. See below for a few posts since then. Bottom pic is Barry and the 200 in 1973.

Axis 64 Midi controller - Harmonic table keyboard

via this auction

"AXiS is a made-to-order professional quality velocity sensitive MIDI controller with a tough metal case and familiar on-board controls. There are various benefits to playing on the Harmonic Table note arrangement. For beginners it's like a shortcut to playing music. And for advanced players? Check out the Jordan Rudress videos on youtube. It allows note combinations that would be impossible on any other keyboard.

There are 192 keys, so it's like buying three 64-note keyboards all in one.

MIDI controls
The AXiS is a versatile MIDI master keyboard. Onboard are pitch bend and mod wheels, and two rotary controls. There are sockets for two foot controls or footswitches. The AXiS can calibrate almost any external control with ease.

Operation
In order to produce an even more versatile and useful unit, they've significantly upgraded the firmware. AXiS can now work more efficiently with other products such as Logic and Ableton Live, and can be more readily used with complex stage and studio set-ups as well as for microtonal work. I've installed the latest firmware. Check out the Axis 64 website. Buy it in the USA and save shipping and time.. and don't pay the new price!

Rare and mint Etherwave Pro Theremin from Moog.

via this auction
"If you really want to play theremin, this is the model to get. Do a Google search and you'll see that this is a truly professional model, one of the last projects by the great Bob Moog. Stunning appearance, and very responsive. There weren't too many of these sold, and they don't come up very often for purchase....

From the Moog site... you can't get them from Moog, or anyplace else, but here is what the site says....

'The Etherwave Pro is a professional quality theremin featuring classic theremin sounds, excellent playability housed in a beautiful eye-catching cabinet. It is designed as a solution for the gigging musician who wants the best theremin available in a portable package.

The Etherwave Pro also won the 2005 Excellence In Design Award (EID). This bold, beautiful theremin is designed for the gigging musician. Drawing on his 50 years of experience, Bob Moog has designed the next step in the evolution of the original electronic instrument, the Theremin. The Etherwave Pro is a step up both from the best-selling theremin of all time, the Etherwave Standard. The Etherwave Pro features professional quality response and sound in a package designed both for beauty and portability. Whether you're a seasoned thereminist or someone drawn to it's unusual sound and looks, you'll appreciate the quality of response and control this product offers.

Moog theremins are real attention getters on stage - whether it's a Nine Inch Nails concert or the current Motley Crue concert (Etherwaves have been seen and heard on both tours) - the audience will be captivated by the instrument that allows the musician to "pull music from the ether".

The Etherwave Pro features removable pitch and volume antennas. The Pitch range of this instrument extends to 6 1/2 octaves. Both Volume and Pitch antenna response are tuned from the wooden pitch and volume knobs as well as the fine adjustment trim controls at the bottom of the front panel.

The front panel controls include a range switch which allows for choosing one of three octave ranges. The Timbre rotary switch is used to select one of the five preset timbres (classic theremin tones) or enables the front panel Waveform, Brightness, and Filter controls, which allow the thereminist to tailor their own personal theremin tone.

The Etherwave Pro also features a headphone output with level control and a dedicated tuner output. A lighted Standby switch allows the Etherwave Pro to be on but silences the audio output.

A line-level audio output is provided, as well as Pitch and Volume Control Voltages, for interfacing the Etherwave Pro with the Minimoog Voyager Synthesizer, or Moogerfooger Analog Effects.

The Etherwave Pro features a power supply that operates with line voltages from 100 VAC to 240VAC, 50-60 Hz.'"

Flame Clockwork Module

via this auction
"The Flame Clockwork now as 3u Rack Module is a versatile clock and tempo generator. In first line it´s designed to generate clock/trigger/gate signals for clocking units with tap and clock inputs, to fire envelopes or to control sequencers and sample&holds. The clock can also be shuffled and shifted before/after the master clock!
Additionally it can send MIDI clock and a fixed MIDI note per channel. Some controls transmit MIDI control data and there´s also a simple MIDI/CV interface.

Maindiffrence to Desktop Version:
Midi: 10 instead of 2 Control changes for channel transmiting
Midi to CV: 24-84 instead of 24-83 range of note numbers
Midi Controller: - no Potenziometer for Random / shuffle / Tempo
Outputs: 2 mono jacks Sum & Gate and 16th Outputs

Technical details:
Internal tempo generator, but the Clockwork can also be synched to external MIDI-Clock. Three independent clock-channels with adjustable divisor factor, including triplets and punctuated notes. -GATE sets the gate length and allows a conitnuous gate signal (hold) or to turn off the channel. The SHIFT/CV control has two functions:
-SHIFT can shift the clock BEFORE of AFTER the master clock, maximum shift is half of the chosen divisor!
- CV affects the signal at CV output and controls clock level between zero and MAX (0...2V). In maximum position the CV out turns into a LFO. A MIDI-synched LFO in a triolic or punctuated grid? No problem for the Clockwork!!

Complex RANDOM function, SHUFFLE (8th or 16th grid) and TEMPO affect all three channels simultaneously. Recording and looping the movements of each track´s controls (besides BEAT) possible over the length of two bars.

Clock: 0/5V. CV adjustable between 0-5V. SUM outputs mix the CV- and Clock-signals (two different logic functions!). A set of LEDs visualises the different clocks. The simple yet fully independent MIDI/CV-interface follows 1V/oct characteristic. It is limited to MIDI channel 1 and five octaves range. Each channel sends a MIDI note on channel 10 in the rhythm ot the chosen divisor factor.

Inputs and outputs:
MIDI In, Out.
Clock and CV outputs per channel and two clock/CV sum outputs as 3.5mm mono sockets. two 3.5mm mono sockets

Measures and weight:
3U Eurorack module, 28HP wide, depth 42mm (165x100x42mm)
current draw: 130-140mA"

MFB Deskop Rack w/ MIDI/CV-Interface

via this auction

"This desktop rack is based on a MFB 19″ frame-kit with custom made wooden side plates and the MFB MIDI/CV-Interface power supply.

The MFB MIDI/CV-Interface combines a ±500 mA power supply with a MIDI/CV-interface complete with connectors for up to eight modules. The circuit board is powered by an external switching power supply to keep high voltages away from the circuit board. Power-switch on the module’s front panel – no more reaching to the frame’s back. The MIDI/CV-interface offers Key-CV and GATE outputs. Separate outputs are available for pitch-wheel, modulation-wheel. In addition, the module outputs MIDI-clock and start/stop signals on individual trigger outputs. The MIDI-channel is adjusted by a set of DIP-switches."

Make Noise Maple Skiff w/ DIN-Power

via this auction

"The Make Noise Skiff is a slim performance oriented case for Eurorack format synthesizer modules. It is 84 HP and has an internal depth of just 4,5 cm and utilizes flexible ribbon style power distribution to conserve space. The case was designed to house the Make Noise Pressure Points, Brains and René performance modules but other slender modules will fit.

The Skiff takes power from a master system case via the included 4 HP power module. This 4 HP power module is installed in the master case just as you would install the typical Eurorack format module. A 5 pin din cable (midi cable, not included) is used to carry power from the master system to the Skiff so it may be placed anywhere near the master system case, thus making the Skiff a convenient spot for controller modules."

Doepfer A-196 PLL

via this auction

"A phase-locked-loop module that - said in few words - synchronises the internal high-speed oscillator to an external audio signal. Of course there are some sidetones because this process doesn´t happen perfectly in real time and is a little "lethargic". In-built is a lowpass filter and three different phase comparators that also alter the sound."
