Korg Sigma vintage analog synth

via this auction

"Pre-set synth by Korg circa 1970s. 11 "instrument" presets and 8 "synthe" tab presets. Plenty of info available on the www. Mono out together with various input and output jacks on the back for VCO, envelope and filter. The names of the instrument voices only are suggestive of real instruments, however one can obtain interesting and unusual sounds by mixing them together. The joysticks are particularly effective, you can control both simultaneously with your thumb and little finger on your left hand, e.g. the pitch bend for an instrument voice and the filter frequency for a synthe voice. This creates some pretty psychedelic effects. The sample and hold on the synthe section sounds particularly effective. The filter on the synthe section also sounds particularly effective, supposedly it is based on the MS-20. Here are some caveats for this particular instrument: the "trumpet" instrument voice and the "hammered percussion" instrument voice do not appear to work. The "mix" dial between the instrument and synthe voices is slightly scratchy. The two joysticks do not have knobs on the top. I cannot discern the functions of the "quarter tone," "multiple trigger" or "keyboard sensor" tabs on the FX bank; they may work in connection with the jacks on the back, or not work. The light above the "quarter tone" effect control is pushed in. One of the rubber hole-stopper inserts is missing on the back top. There are light scratches to top bottom front back sides as depicted. This may originally have come with a "music stand" attachment; if so, it's not included. There is a slight discoloration on the 3rd "C" key."

There are four primitive shapes to choose from representing four oscillators. As each shape is moved around the screen, the pitch and volume moves with it.

Every shape has it's own loop, and every movement is recorded on the loop for instant playback. As the loop can be varied by size and number of steps while it is playing, all kinds of new sounds and effects emerge.

Features
- four oscillators
- easy to play
- instantly resize each loop
- change the numbers of steps in each loop
- start composing straight away!"

There is only one TimbreModulator but with selectable input source: Osc 1, Osc2 or even both! Instead of the 2nd Timbremodulator there is a 'real' Ringmodulator, yes, the real deal as far as software can do it! The mod Oscillator for RingMod ranges from approx. 7Hz to 100Hz, so the typical 50Hz AC is possible. As RingMod generates the sum and difference of the input signals it can give quite a low punch. This one is with selectable input source: Osc 1, Osc2, plus the output of TimbreMod too! As both of these soundshapers have great capabilities to transform the signal of the oscillators they have both independant outputs and are treated as secondary soundsources.

Thus the new Swamp has quite increased sonic capabilities at this stage already. Anyway the SF2 oscilators come with 256 carefully selected waves though some maybe suited better for RingMod while others are better suited for TimbreMod.

Of course there is the wellknown resonant 24dB LowPass filter with a 4 channel adaptive mod mixer so 4 source can be mixed to modulate Cutoff. This is great to create new mixes of LFO modulations.

The output sections has increased a lot. Besides the delay there is a stereo Flanger and Stereo Reverb with PreDelay and LowCutoff to remove lower frequencies for an optimized Reverb response (use this if the rev 'shatters' in low range.

As Modsources there are 3 LFO, 1 S&H, 1 Double LFO with Phase shifting for one which is best useful for the flanger. Also there is a new Gator which effect can be mixed (w. optionaö modulation) on the output level so you can adjust the amount of gating on the output, with enhanced routings including modulating pan of the delayed signal. Also Aftertouch and Modwheel are used extensively as optional modsources.

have fun

"Kilpatrick K4816 Pattern Generator is at the core of this patch - then I'm transposing the sequence via the 223e THROUGH the 250e .... using it as a CV recorder - the "fixed" button on the 250e is used to manually save real-time CV output of the 223e. The 223e is also used to step through Preset Manager patches that have subtle dynamic variation (mainly mixer and 210e routings)."

MFOS Soundlab with MIDI and other mods

YouTube Uploaded by clackbeetle on Apr 27, 2011

"I had some parts laying around from Various jobs at clacktronics, so rather than waste them I thought I would create a synthesizer. I had a PCB for the soundlab from a workshop I did and I tried to make it behave more like a performance synthesizer, this involved modding and calibrating it to behave properly.

It is for sale so email Ben@clacktronics.co.uk for enquiries and any questions - for thos of you interested I will be posting this mods shortly on clacktronics.co.uk

The Mods I have added to the Soundlab are as follows

An Octave Switcher - single switch that changes the pitch from a very low C and six octaves up, for both VCO's

Improvement to CV summing - the original Soundlab drags the CV's down to almost -15 for the filters and VCA, but with MIDI and an octave switcher this makes the LFO to VCO almost useless as the pitch drags right down and the switcher cant bring it up high enough. To fix this I made all CV's operate around GND and created a separate mixer that buffers and pulls the voltages down for the VCA/VCF. This means you can add the LFO or AR to the VCO's and they will modulate the pitch around the set note making vibrato sounds much easier.

The MIDI part of the synthesizer is a MIDImplant by Roman Sowa, The pitch CV directly controls the VCO's and the gate goes to the AR generator. The MIDImplant has 2 CV's though so I added a switch that allows the second VCO to be controlled by the second CV - the only problem is that it has to be controlled on a second MIDI channel as the Implant cannot do polyphonic assigning of the CV outputs. The second CV is normally connected to the VCA or VCF inputs this allows velocity or mod wheel control (this will be demonstrated in another video) All the MIDI settings are on the back of the Soundlab and the assignment of MIDI channel and parameters are all controlled by a single button.

The power supply - It runs of an AC adaptor that supplies Ray Wilsons wall wart supply inside at -/+15v, this means it can interact with normal synthesizers more easily taking CV's upto 10v and normal gate levels (the sockets are provided on the back)

Please note that I have only just finished this synth and there needs to be a bit more calibration!!

Demo Casio Casiotone CT-403 (analogue) 1982

YouTube Uploaded by susarom on Apr 27, 2011

"Casio Casiotone CT-403 (analogue) 1982

The CT-403, was one of the first keyboards with auto accompaniment. The Casiotone 400 series, including the CT-401 (first keyboard with auto accompaniment) and the CT-405 (quasi a MT-68 in wooden casing) can easily be identified by the solid wooden casing, high-quality finish and special design

The tone bank is pretty much the same one the MT-60 has (25 cool sounds!) and the auto accompaniment ranks among the best due to the very phat analog drums and a voluminous bass. The 16 unostentatious beat patterns are accompanied by very minimal chord & bass figures, clearly marking this device as a solo entertainer.

Sorry for some mistakes. Demo was played live and recorded. ;)

The CT-403 was accompanied by some Juno Strings"
