Yamaha CS01II plays NEW LIFE by Depeche Mode

YouTube Uploaded by peahix on May 9, 2011

"The Yamaha CS01II is the first real synthesizer I ever owned. I got it when I was about 14 years old, back in 1985 or so. I noticed that I could get reasonable approximations of most of the sounds from Depeche Mode's "Speak & Spell" album with it, but at the time I didn't have the means to make decent multi-track cover versions, even after I got a 4-track.

Recently I was studying the Depeche Mode 5.1 surround mixes, and realized that I could clearly hear all the distinct parts of alot of the songs, including "New Life." I also realized that most of the sounds in "New Life," which heavily featured the ARP 2600, were fairly simple. So I decided to throw together a version of it using just my trusty old Yamaha CS01II as the sole sound source (including the drums), just to see how close I could get to the original.

This version has no vocals at all, but otherwise it comes pretty close to the original. The actual musical arrangement is 100% accurate. The sounds themselves are of course only approximations, and most of them don't have the same level of timbral detail as the ARP originals. I sequenced the whole thing in Cubase via a Kenton Pro Solo going into the custom CV/Gate inputs on my CS01II, recording each monophonic line in one at a time. Cubase provided the reverb and EQ, otherwise it's all CS01II."

The Masters Touch is an awesome, breath controlled resonant analog filter designed by the legendary Nyle Steiner. By Bill Ruppert

"Welcome To The Machine" preformed on just a guitar and effect pedals.
Welcome to Electro-Harmonix's "Effectology" series, in which we create a remarkable collection of impossible sounds using just a regular guitar and EHX effect pedals!
No keyboards, samplers or midi pickups were used.

In this episode I recreate the classic Pink Floyd recording "Welcome To the Machine".
Using just effect pedals, I am able to reproduce the synthesizers and tape effects from this great record.

Shake N' Bake Baby Oscillator

YouTube Uploaded by centerofmind on Apr 17, 2011

"This instrument was made by me for the local Winnipeg band DRugs. I really like this one. Glitchy, noisy, and fun. The craziness increases ten fold if you plug it into effects. This video was recorded with no effects, just the straight signal from Baby. The "Deprive" knob really helps sculpt the sound. There are three audio rate oscillators and one clock rate that controls the "Shake" feature. It was a complicated task to get everything inside the baby head. It is now sealed shut, so if anything goes wrong.......surgery. My next baby will have a CV in, babies like that. I did not realize there are others who use baby heads for projects........cool."

Pencil Fields - analog gestural interface controlling Bugbrand Modular

YouTube Uploaded by otoskope on May 9, 2011

"This is a live performance by Palle Dahlstedt on a custom built instrument, using a simple pencil drawing as a gestural interface for controlling complex analog synthesis (on a Bugbrand Modular). The instrument works by creating a voltage potential field in the graphite/pencil markings on the paper using custom movable electrodes made from coins. Then, various control voltages are extracted from other points on the paper, controlling various aspects of the synthesized sound.

A big thanks to Tom Bugs for very valuable electronics advice!

The sound is recorded directly from the BugBrand Modular (with a slight reverb), and from contact mics on the pencil sharpener. There is no normal microphone, which explains the slightly awkward silence in the beginning, while I'm drawing.

Recorded at the second performance (of two), May 6th, 2011, Gothenburg, Sweden. Concert arranged by Levande Musik (www.levandemusik.org)

This work is part of the research project Creative Performance at University of Gothenburg, funded by the Swedish Research Council."

"I recently went through the documentation for the Korg iMS20 iPad app to find out how to control it with the Code. While Korg's MIDI implementation is not totally comprehensive, it's still pretty useful. I created a map you can use for the Code which you can download here:
lividinstruments.com/dl/Code%2BKorg-iMS20_layout.zip
to control the main Synth screen. The zip also includes a graphic that most of the possible controls if you want to try controlling other parts of the app with your code (or other MIDI controller).
This video scratches the surface of possibility with this type of combination, and I look forward to exploiting this even more!"

Chip Maestro - An NES MIDI Synthesizer Cartridge

"The Chip Maestro is a finished product up on Kickstarter, and it's seeking backers!
The Chip Maestro is a special NES cartridge that turns the NES into a synthesizer. You can play it using a MIDI keyboard or a USB to MIDI converter. By directly manipulating the NES CPU's sound circuitry, all sounds played through this cartridge are authentic NES tones! This is as realistic to the 8-bit era as you can get with live sound. Previous trackers have been able to play music, but all of them required pre-composition. This cartridge lets you do improvs and solos during live shows, or fiddle around with new tunes. I hope to get it into every chiptune artist's hands soon. Thanks for your support!"

Update via Jarek: "The advantage of the Chip Maestro over the MIDInes is its availability and price.

The Chip Maestro will support parameter changes to all sound channels of the NES. If you pledge at any level, you will get first look at the technical documents, and be able to propose changes/improvements that you would like, such as which parameter changes are important, and how they would be best implemented."

YouTube Uploaded by skoulaman on May 9, 2011

"This song is based again on a 2x8 note sequence from the Doepfer Dark Time with almost the same settings for the Waldorf micro Q. At about 0.50 there comes the Moog LP in with a LFO sweep of the moogerfooger CP251 (wich is connected to the cv-out of de DDT). At about 1.00 there the hands came in for chords produced with the Roland Juno 106 and a old piano sound from the Yamaha DX 27. Also the Korg Lambda is used. I called it ambient electro but may be you think otherwise. The title has to do with the fact that the weekend I made this track the temperature in the Netherlands was almost the hottest of whole Europe and it is just spring??"

"Brief demo of the new update for M-RGT Psybox 1.1, a space-atmospheric soundscape generator - made to produce sounds, which can be used to create Ambient and Space Music.

psyBOX uses the samples as a source of spectra splitting them into multiple grains-micro waves and combining them in clusters. Those clusters are formed randomly and they flow from one into another forming infinite drifting morphing.

new version 1.1 features a multieffect processor, a great modulation matrix, 3 LFOs and a step sequencer."
