4/10/25 Overloading an Alesis MIDIVERB II + ADR Pan Scan + SWTPC Psych Tone

video upload by Cfpp0

"I just posted a YouTube Short of the Multivox FR6M Rhythm Ace through the two Moog MKPE Parametric Equalizers, so this video is the last of the lower third rack tests after rewiring the patch bays. Some manual adjustments to the Pause Select switches on the SWTPC Psych Tone, which is running through the ADR Pan Scan, with some adjustments to the Pan Depth and Pan Speed. The Pan Scan outputs are hard-panned on the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer. The Alesis MIDIVERB II is on an aux send and is fed a big dose of both channels. The MIDIVERB II blooms alone are worth the cost, but I love the way the MIDIVERB II overloads."

"The only problem with this synthesizer is that it has a bent B key, see pictures. The key works just fine, but it is off-centered from the rest. I injured the key many years ago while carrying it from the car to a practice space. I also included pictures of the auto-tuning screen. There are working 16 oscillator voice so this is quite a useful feature after you first turn it on. The A6 could auto-tune your notes all the time, but I have that setting turned off and generally just do it when I first turn it on."

Alesis Andromeda A6 Concept Drawings

This one is in via Justin3am who had the following to say:

"I cleaned out a storage space in Woodland Hills for Rob Ramply, who formerly worked at Alesis. There happened to be a book of Axel Hartmann's early concept drawings of the Andromeda, so I scanned them."

Which design do you like best?

Two New Synthesizer Evolution Books by Oli Freke

Details follow via the author, Oli Freke:

These two new volumes in my Synth Evolution ‘zine series were launched at last weekend’s SynthEast event in Norwich, UK. They are Volume 3: Modern Classics, and Volume 4: Modular Greats. I’ve moved into the 21st Century with these two! As ever, they feature my signature hand-drawn illustrations and are full of facts, figures and tech-specs:

Volume 3: Modern Classics

Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back) author Oli Freke returns with a new volume in his Synthesizer Evolution A6 zine series. The first two volumes (Vintage Synths and Drum Machines & Samplers) focused on vintage electronic instruments from the 1970s and 1980s. Volume three moves into the 21st century, showcasing a selection of the most interesting, impactful, and—arguably—best synthesizers of the past two decades.

The synths in this book celebrate the vast range of sonic possibilities now available to musicians and producers. From analogue wonders to extraordinary digital creations, from tightly designed monosynths to open-ended polyphonic beasts, each one is more marvellous than the last! Also featuring ‘Desert Island Modular’ choices from Robin Vincent, Steve Davis, Panic Girl and more.

Volume 4: Modular Greats

The modular resurgence of the past 25 years has been a wonder to behold. Where musicians were once chained to their DAWs, we are now liberated once again to wire, patch, and modulate in the real world, choosing from a mind-boggling array of options.

Modular Greats celebrates the fusion of art, logic, science, and serendipity in modular synthesis, highlighting some of the best-selling, most creative, and most impactful modules of the 21st century. Featured manufacturers include Make Noise, Mutable Instruments, TipTop Audio, Intellijel, Rossum Electro-Music, Doepfer—and many more!

video upload by Cfpp0

"2/10/25 (first test) Alesis MIDIVERB + Technosaurus Cyclodon & Microcon

We got an Alesis MIDIVERB and this was a first test. Of course, our MIDIVERB II is way more versatile, but this original desktop version is the perfect size for this little Technosaurus system and it’s hard to go wrong with 20 second reverbs for under $100."

Elka Twin 61 + Alesis Quadraverb

video upload by melodikakofoniko

"The Elka Twin 61 is a rare Italian string/organ/bass keyboard, built in the early 1980s. Fully polyphonic strings, organ, and other sounds, with monophonic bass section. It has 2 separate sections (A and B) with identical features. The sections can be combined and mixed together to create a huge wall of sound. It sounds super lush and early 80s – unlike typical 70s string machines. It has a great CEM3320 based phaser built in.

In this video both A and B sections are used – Organ for the part A and full strings for part B."

✈️ Alesis AIR FX ✈️ 🎧 (no talking) 🎧

video upload by Cutoff Frequency - gear stuff (no talking)

"This is a video demonstrating the sounds of the Alesis AIR FX.

The Alesis AIR FX was released in 2001 and it wasn't much of a commercial succes. At the time I was very reluctant to go on stage with a laptop of any sort, so I was always on the lookout for performative instruments. This ticked all the boxes. Just put it between a sound source and an input and start sculpting your sound in the air. It looks great on stage, all tough it might be something of a insiders thing. Still, it is a bit of a mystery to me why nobody is using these kind of effects. Nowadays they sell for reasonable prices, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if mine broke."
