"The DS-4 drum synth, which was released by Toyo Gakki in the 1980s under the 'ULT--SOUND' brand and was used by the drummers of Japan's leading techno-pop group, has been revived in modern times.

While faithfully reproducing the circuit configuration of the original (early model), CV/GATE input terminals for each channel have been added to allow for cooperation with modular synths, etc., making it even more comfortable to use as a production tool."

"Rare Japanese 4 channel drum synth – we’re big fans of these. Has separate inputs to trigger each voice and we can mod with separate outputs (see below).

The black variant of the Toyo Gakki DS-4 for sale. This version is almost identical to the blue and yellow “Custom” model, except that the cascade triggering is not present.

Supplied in full working order and covered by our standard 3 month warranty. Currently working well, but will be serviced and will ship within 20 working days of purchase.

Separate Outputs Mod: We can modify the unit with separate outputs for each channel. This will be via the DIN socket on the rear (so no extra holes are drilled) and we will supply a trailing lead with four 1/4″ jack sockets."

"OPTIONAL MODIFICATION: During service we can also modify the unit with separate outputs for each channel. The Toyo Gakki DS-4 comes in a black variant and this colourful one, but it is only this model that has the extra functionality. Most famously used by Yellow Magic Orchestra, we’ve said a lot about our love for these in the past (maybe too much as they’ve become even harder to get hold of, but damn they are good!).

VOLTAGE: These will run very well with a standard Electro-Harmonix pedal PSU (they say they require 15v but there is no issue with the higher voltage). If you don’t have the correct supply please ask and we may have one for your country or can send a link.

In excellent cosmetic condition with only minor scuffs and dings scattered across the face. There are no signs of oxidation to any of the metal surfaces. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition."

Dutch techno icon Steffi made her massive Against The Clock session look easy, effortlessly gliding from synth to synth in her compact studio to create a tightly-wound electro track in just 10 minutes.

After the time was up, the Ostgut Ton regular and Panorama Bar resident talked us through what she did and how she did it, giving us a guided tour of her enviable gear collection at the same time.

Steffi’s got all the classics you’d expect in her studio – a TR-808 drum machine, a Minimoog for basslines – but also a few unusual items, like the Waldorf synth she uses for string sounds and a Sequentix Cirklon sequencer. Check it out above and watch her go Against The Clock."

It a rare Japanese four channel analogue drum synth made by Toyo Gakki in the 80's and used by Yellow Magic Orchestra. It is little noisy but fun to use and very cute with its case.
This version is modded with separate outputs for each sound, and being triggered via the Arturia Beatstep Pro.
