"There are many different ways to use this machine but this is my favourite- I hook it up to my synth via the CV and Gate, I then slave my TR-606/TR-808/TR-707 and CR-78 to it. This way I can write different rhythmic trigger patterns on the drum machine and move between the four melodic patterns on the CSQ-600. This gets even better when you have say - 7 triggers per bar but only 5 notes loaded into one of the CSQ-600's banks. You can hear this technique in Mr Fingers' track Waterfall. The CSQ-600 has four melody banks that can be switched on the fly, or chained together."

"The AM0600 The Analog Metropolis version of the Roland CSQ-600 has been extensively re-engineered with the following changes:

The case has been ditched, and the main PCB and PSU integrated into the AM Modular Cabinet.

The CSQ-600 is controlled from a new remote front panel, linked to the sequencer via a ribbon cable.

The remote panel is a standard AM style panel, just 135mm wide. Have a look at the mocked up front panel to see how much we have slimmed down the controls.

Some controls have been left on the CSQ-600 PCB, to simplify the front panel and because they aren't likely to get used much (e.g. gate rewrite and portamento).

The remaining key controls have been located on the new front panel, and replaced with high quality components which transform the usabaility.

A new replacement potentiometer for TEMPO

New toggle switches and buttons

New 5mm LED's, blue, red and aqua green

The original inputs and outputs have also been slimmed down to the bare essentials, and located on the new control panel.

The CSQ-600 will sync to an external 1 beat per note signal. So I have added MIDI clock sync.. "

"The SH-2 is a powerful yet compact DUAL oscillator mono synth from 1979. It has a very powerful sound due to the lively UA726 based oscillators, the sweet Roland 24db filter and a very tight ADSR envelope as well as a few unique features. It does very fat basses as well as thick leads, its oscillators stay in tune very well and track from sub bass to super high pitches!"

"The CSQ-600 is a very tight sequencer with 4 pattern storage of up to 600 notes. Its killer features are the ability to do TB-303 style slide steps and a very cool transposition feature. Have a look at the video below for a demo.

It can generate DINSYNC or CR-78 type sync as well as clock to external clicks from drum machines. It will work with any 1 volt/octave synth with positive gate such as Rolands, Arps, Octaves and Arturias and many others.

I don't think there's a more intuitive and direct sequencer for such gear! You can literally play the sequences on this machine, with quantized CV and no missed steps!

This particular unit was modified to quantize its trigger on external sync (as seen in video around 6min). This lets you transpose perfectly in sync with external triggers!

The unit comes in a nice Roland case from the same era, it's also the original TR-909 case."

"Roland's single channel CSQ-100, little brother to the CSQ-600 was an early digital storage analogue sequencer. With capacity for a total of 168 notes in either two sequences of 84 or segued as 168. Sequences may be written using only the CV note only), giving a regular meter from the clock, CV & Gate (note and time), giving variable note length or just the Gate (time value) to an existing CV sequence. A keyboard CV can be used to transpose (or "trasposed" according to the manual!) the running sequence.
