via this auction

"* Vintage Cat SRM II, factory new, never used

* One of the first and best sounding analog synthesizers ever made

* Includes Glide on/off foot switch

* Includes original owner’s manual and original literature for Octave Plateau products

* For more information about the Cat series, Google "Fandom Electronic Music Wiki Cat Synthesizer"

The Cat SRM II synthesizer was manufactured by Octave-Plateau from 1980 – 81. It is the best and final model of the Cat synthesizer series, which included the original Cat (1976) and Cat SRM (1978). We have been fortunate enough to acquire some New Old Stock (NOS) from Octave Plateau’s last production run in 1981. These units have never been used and were safely kept in storage since the day they were manufactured. If you’re an analog synth aficionado, this is an opportunity to own an authentic piece of electronic music history.

Here’s what we’ve done to this unit:

Calibrated and thoroughly tested every function to assure everything works as designed.
Cleaned and checked all switches, pots keyboard contacts, buss bar and electronic circuits.
Replaced the keyboard rubber bushings on all keys.
Replaced critical calibration single-turn trimmers with high-precision multi-turn trimmers for greater stability.
Included a foot switch that plugs into the back of the synthesizer and turns on the glide function when the switch is pressed, allowing a smooth glide between notes only when desired.
Features:

Monophonic/duophonic keyboard plays two notes with memory function on second note.
Digital keyboard with single contact per key (more reliable than the dual-contact analog keyboard used on previous Cat models and most other analog synthesizers of the day).
Dual VCOs (CEM3340) with oscillator sync and mixable waveforms for complex tones.
Sub octaves on both VCOs for full, deep bass sounds.
Four-pole LPF (SSM2044) with adjustable keyboard tracking.
Versatile modulation system to create a wide variety of sounds.
LFO (with variable delay on sine output), S&H and dual envelope generators.
White noise generator.
Extensive expansion jacks on rear panel.
This unit has the original press-wood veneer sides with plastic edge stripping. It is shipped in a plain, unmarked box, not the original box. Although it has never been used, there may be some minor cosmetic imperfections, which is how it left the factory. Please refer to the photos for cosmetic details."

Understanding the Octave CAT // Walkthrough of Cherry Audio's latest release

Octave Cat retains all the growl of the original hardware's fat and savage duophonic sound and replicates the CAT's uniquely aggressive resonant four-pole 24 dB/oct filter. The Octave Cat feature set expands on the original with enhancements including 16-voice polyphony, sample and hold glide, and interchangeable skins.

A secondary panel view reveals dual eight-step classic-style sequencers and studio-quality effects featuring distortion, phaser, flanger/chorus, delay, and reverb. With support for MPE, over 300 expertly designed presets, and extensive MIDI mapping functions, Octave Cat will satisfy both vintage synth aficionados and professional modern music producers.

Octave Cat is provided in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats, and a free 30-day demo is available at https://cherryaudio.com/

"PLEASE READ! Okay, so in hindsight I guess I should have searched to see if anyone else had done this idea. After I uploaded it, I saw that someone had. What's funny is that we both thought of the EXACT same video game Fail. I thought about changing the first part of the video, but to be truthful, that would almost be more dishonest. I do think I spent a great deal more time on mine, recreating the game play from scratch instead of using video capture from the game and the cat is a bit more "8-bit". The most noticeable difference though might be the excellent music created by Doctor Octoroc, he really nailed this one.

FelineSynth for iPad

Published on Aug 3, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We explore the FelineSynth, an iPad synthesizer that models cat vocalizations. We also try running it through the Morpheus Z-Plane Filter from Rossum Electro-Music.

Download FelineSynth from the App Store https://apps.apple.com/us/app/feline-...

Find out more about the Morpheus and other modules from Rossum Electro-Music at their website www.rossum-electro.com.

_________
A cat voice generator that calculates sound wave made by the vibration of cat vocal cords modified by the resonance of the vocal tract in real time. (not playbacks of recorded audio)

It can produce various cat voices (like human talking or whispering).

At a glance, this app may look like a musical instrument with a keyboard.

But it is not for the purpose of playing music.

However, you can play music or beautiful chorus composed of cat voices.

Moving your finger horizontally on the keyboard, cat voice pitch rises and falls.

And moving your finger vertically, cat voice pronunciation changes.

Touch the DEMO 1 button on top-left on the screen, it teaches how to make variation.

Slide the metronome on the left and watch the cat eyes flash.

Toggle through the options of voice tone on the right side of the screen.

"VoKey is a Sampler and Keyboard. It can also be used to control or be controlled by another App by using the Virtual Midi feature. So, let's have a look at it and its features. To record a sound, you have to use the built in microphone on your iDevice or an Audio interface. You can also import (and export) samples by using iTunes or the Wifi file sharing. Note that an AudioBus feature would be really great... Once your recorded sample is be analyzed, it will be displayed as a "paint" waveform. 2 colours: Red & Blue. These colours will help you to edit your sample very fast. For example, you will be able to Map to the keyboard all the Blue segments of your waveform, to delete all the Red ones, or to switch to the next segment... Save your Sample when you are ok with it. You will be also able to Timestretch, Normalize, Reverse, loop your samples and add a Reverb (13 presets). You will be able to record your performances and save them (Unfortunately, you can't share your performances). VoKey is very well done. You can use it to create a sound very quickly, a new instrument and or play voice chords.... I would really like to have the AudioBus feature. A master volume would also be good because when you use VoKey to control another App or as an expander, it can be a little annoying without a master volume. VoKey is a Super App, it can also be rated as a Killer App, it only depends on your expectations of it. I think that VoKey will be in my recording gear for the Peace Project.... So I rate it as a Killer App even if it lacks some features..."

New Akai Timbre Wolf & Tom Cat - Official Press Release, Pricing & 1st NAMM Videos

"AKAI PROFESSIONAL INTRODUCES TIMBRE WOLF ANALOG SYNTHESIZER AND TOM CAT ANALOG DRUM MACHINE

New electronic instruments deliver authentic analog sound, giving musicians ability to create traditional ‘gutsy’ sound

Cumberland, RI USA (January 22, 2015)—Akai Professional (akaipro.com), a leading innovator of music equipment for production and performance, today announced the introduction of their new Timbre Wolf analog synthesizer and Tom Cat analog drum machine.

The Timbre Wolf is an authentic analog 4-voice polyphonic synthesizer. Configurable as 4 mono synths, a 4-voice unison or a 4-voice polysynth, Timbre Wolf includes a professional quality 25-key custom Akai Pro keybed. The user can easily customize the sound of each voice independently as they play, and there is a 32-step sequencer for each voice. An LED display and Octave +/- controls add further control and flexibility for the user.

Timbre Wolf adds a distinctive, convincing traditional voice to any musician’s repertoire of tools.

Tom Cat is an exciting true analog drum machine with five built-in percussion voices, including Kick, Snare, and Clap sounds with chromatically tunable Disco Toms. Onboard controls—all continuously variable—enable users to customize the tuning, amplitude envelopes, and volume of each drum voice separately for precise real-time adjustment.

Outfitted with six MPC-style pads and a built-in 32-step sequencer, Tom Cat provides an ultra-responsive interface with a classic drum machine layout. Drum patterns can be fine-tuned using the Swing function, Pattern Select, and Tempo Control knob. A custom signal path, activated by its unique “Maul” circuitry, lets the user ‘dirty up’ their drum beats for just the right effect.

Akai Professional Product Manager Dan Gill notes, “With our new introductions of Timbre Wolf and Tom Cat, we’ve put those classic analog synthesizer and drum machine sounds directly into the hands of today’s musicians. Our goal was to make a compact analog polyphonic synthesizer /keyboard and an analog multi-voice drum machine that easily integrate with both modern and vintage music equipment, so musicians could effortlessly bring that great analog sound into their music. That’s what these two do and the creative potential they open up is endless.”

U.S Pricing for Timbre Wolf will be $499.
U.S Pricing for Tom Cat will be $199.

They will be available in July 2015.

Please visit Akai Professional at NAMM, Booth number 6700."

Sampling the Cat's Meow 😻 (FREE OCTAVE THE CAT SYNTHESIZER SAMPLE PACK)

video by Perfect Circuit

"Download the FREE Sample Pack: https://bit.ly/2QvXsOq

Everyone knows and loves the Minimoog and the Odyssey, but there is another fur-ocious synthesizer from the late 1970s. The Cat from Octave Electronics is a compact, highly playable keyboard synth with all the hiss, growl, and purr you’d expect in an instrument from this era. But with a keyboard that can play duophonically and stellar cross-modulation potential, the Cat provides plenty of sounds that can bite!

Normally, we love to show off the sounds and capabilities of a vintage synth, but this time we wanted to try something a little bit different. We decided to throw together a free sample pack with some of the sounds we made in our afternoon with the Cat, offering all kinds of percussive and bizarre one-shot sounds to spice up your tracks. Meowza!

Octave/Plateau CAT SRM Synthesizer SN B3933

via this auction

"A genuine, working CAT SRM, and I'm the original owner, having purchased it on April 18th, 1980. Yup, exactly 40 years ago.

This unit was never abused, but it definitely was used in live performances. That explains the scuffed side panels; I didn't have a road case for it. The control surface and keys are nice, but yeah, that wood could use a refinishing. Funny... I just noticed that an ebayer in the UK sells new side panels. Good for you, fella! Come to think of it, maybe you could just switch the panels left-to-right so that the "good" wood is now outside? Hmm...

To hear and see this synth in action, follow this YouTube link: [video embedded above]

My keyboard setup back in the day included a Rhodes 73 Stage, Farfisa Syntorchestra, Clavinet C, and this CAT. Very, very analog. the CAT was pretty much a solo instrument, although it did play the occasional bass line.
