legoluft - Circuit Bending and Synths

Jason posted a link on the Analog Heaven list to this Dr. Bohm Digital Drums image. Of course I had to check it out. I backtracked to the root of the site and I found legoluft. The site is in German, but of course you can use Google translator to browse the site in English. There's some pretty cool stuff there worth checking out. Gotta love Google translation - informative and humorous at the same time.

The description for the Boehm Digital Drums Google translated:
"Dr. Boehm Digital Drums can perhaps as German Linn drums, since they sound similar, and very high quality. Neben den eigentlichen grossen und programmierbaren Digital Drums gab es 2 Preset-Versionen, die für Alleinunterhalter als kleines Zusatzgerät benutzt werden konnten. Besides the actual big and programmable digital drums were 2 preset versions, the entertainer as a small device could be used. Sie bieten je nach Typ die besten Presets des grossen Bruders mit einigen Variationen. They offer depending on the type presets of the best big brother with a few variations.

The sound of those little drum machine is really bold and solid patterns are programmed. The chip architecture is typical of the time, very open and easy to understand. Each drum samples in a Rom-Baustein stored and can be relatively easy to manipulate, so interesting effects. In my copy, I have been an 8 switch matrix built, the fine for noise effects by itself."

Vintage Digital Drum Machine

Anyone know what this is?

Update: be sure to check out the comments. Some info via Jan-Hinnerk: "The pic shows a Dr. Böhm (ahhh…those umlauts!) Digital Drums. Boehm (let's use this spelling for the sake of sanity) was a German company offering a range of electronic organs, both in assembled and kit form. In the 80s they ventured into (a) synthesizers and (b) digital drums, the first result being the Digital Drums. I can't remember exactly, but to my best knowledge the Digital Drums appeared in 1984 on the German market. It came with a variety of preset patterns plus offered you to program your own rhythms in realtime. A friend assembled one in kit form and made some mistakes on handling the ROM chips for some sounds, e.g. the handclaps sounded like someone hit his knuckles together, but apart from that it sounded very realistic for its time. I used it for my first 4-track-recordings in summer 1985. Big, chunky machine – really nice."

BÖHM DIGITAL DRUMS Vintage Drum Machine 1983 | HD DEMO

Published on Feb 21, 2014 AnalogAudio1·125 videos

"(c) 2014 by AnalogAudio1

In the beginning of the video I added a little reverb from a Yamaha SPX900 on the drums, all other effects came from the Böhm itself.

The Boehm (Dr. Böhm) DIGITAL DRUMS is a rhythm machine / accompaniment from Germany.

The BÖHM DIGITAL DRUMS came in 2 versions:

1. as a classic drum machine
2. as a classic drum machine + analog accompaniment.

The latter you see in the video. The Böhm has preset rhythms and is also programmable. It has digital drum samples (13 bit) and analog sound generation for the accompaniment. On the accompaniment version, a keyboard can be attached, in order to set chords. It was also included in Böhm organs. The most units were assembled by the users themselves - it was also available as assembly kit. Multiple outputs, tape interface and MIDI were optional."

ELKA DRUMMER ONE Analog Rhythm Box 1969 | HD DEMO | SAMPLE PACK

Published on Nov 26, 2015 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2015 by AnalogAudio1

The DRUMMER ONE is a very rare, professional analog rhythm box from Elka, Italy. High quality hardware. All rhythms are mixable. All drum sounds have volume knobs to set the volume individually. It was primarily used by krautrock artists as Cluster (Zuckerzeit) and Kraftwerk.

I played the Drummer One with a small amout of ambience from a Lexicon MPX-500 and delay from a Korg SDD-3000. At the end of the video you hear SDD-3000 echo madness ;-)
