E0E ladder filter

"Very simple jerk chaos circuit controlling early Serge VCO and Serge vari-BW filter. The chaos circuit is fed an envelope which allows windows of periodicity. Pots control the frequency (centred aound 2.5Hz) and chaotic behaviour. This is a proto-type Nonlinear circuits module.

cellF 23july2014

Published on Jul 23, 2014 cirtcele

"This is the 1st time we connected neurons to a nonlinearcircuits voice synth. The neurons are grown on an array of 60 electrodes. In this test we just used 1 electrode and amplified the signal to get a 5V neuronal noise signal and extracted the action potential using a comparator to get triggers."

cellF 2 - Using Organic, Biological Neurons to Control a Modular

Published on Aug 6, 2014 cirtcele

"We hooked some living neurons up to a nonlinearcircuits modular. the neuronal noise was amplified & fed thru filters, also used to CV a VCO. The action potentials (triggers) were used to drive the sequencers. We used a pulse divider to provide a feedback signal to the neurons and they seemed to appreciate this a lot :) Thanks to Nathan for the footage."

bindubba4 demo

YouTube via cirtcele | July 02, 2010

"demo of the bindubba4 speech synth....which doesn't sound anything like speech, but it's reasonably interesting. Probably I have to learn how to set up patches very carefully to get this to sound anything like a voice.
The core circuit is based on the AI Cybernetics model 1000 speech synthesizer, the control cct is designed to operate as an analogue synth module.

short demo of the single jerkoff PCB

Published on Dec 24, 2013 cirtcele·113 videos

"Just a minute showing the single Jerkoff PCB in action, for much of it the circuit is getting a square wave input. This is a chaos circuit based on the jerk equation and its electronic implementation by JC Sprott."

I created a new JC Sprott label. There was a post mentioning Sprott and a chaos module back in 2008 here.

cellular automata sequencer 1

Published on May 11, 2013 cirtcele·78 videos

"Go to
http://nonlinearcircuits.blogspot.com...
for more info about this module.

This is a single neighbourhood of 4 cells. All 4 cells get the same clock signal, a gate running at 1/16th of the clock is fed to cell4 input. The output of cell2 is fed to cell1. The CV and psuedo-random outputs control a VCO and VCF.

This is intended to be on a panel containing 6 neighbourhoods, so 24 cells. The neighbourhoods outputs can be summed in various ways to get multiple complex CV patterns."

4seq

Published on Apr 4, 2015 cirtcele

"8 HP Eurorack Sequencer for June WAMod workshop, four stages but with fwd/reverse control so you can get some pretty complex sequences happening when feeding it 2 diffrent clock signals. Two CV outs giving the opposite count of each other, so if one is giving 1234123..., the other is going 4321432...
Also there is a clock divider giving /2, /4, /8 & /16 of the count (which of course gets really interesting when the fwd/reverse control is in action)"

nonlinearcircuits SPASM - LDR controlled (!) chaos

Published on Jan 4, 2019 cirtcele

"This module takes the classic Sprott jerk circuit and replaces all the resistors with LDRs.....a 7 way vactrol."

"This module takes the classic Sprott jerk circuit and replaces all the resistors with LDRs.....a 7 way vactrol. This means the brightness of the LED in the giant vactrol controls the frequency of the circuit.

It is a very easy build and will give you a very flexible chaotic circuit. The CV inject jack allows you to control the chaos with gates and CV, some signals will cause it to pause or stall, others will make it glitch & freak out. CV freq controls the LED which, in turn, controls the resistance in the LDRs.

It is a very flexible build; you can use any LDRs you like, so long as they are the same. You can also use any capacitors you like for CAP, so long as they are the same.

Of course, the LDRs and capacitors you choose will affect the behaviour & frequency range of the circuit. GL5516 LDRs go to 500kΩ off resistance whereas GL5549 go to 10MΩ+ (anywhere from 10MΩ to 20MΩ), so will be a lot slower but will give a much wider frequency range and some very unpredictable outputs. Similarly with capacitors 10uF will be a lot slower than 10nF.

If going for the more extremely slow values, GL5549 LDRs and 10uF caps, the module will stall at minimum pot settings and generally needs a CV on the CV freq input to make it operate. This is actually a good thing as you can turn the signals on and off with CV or gates.

PCB set = USD20
Panel = USD20
assembled = USD160"

nonlinearcircuits VCAs fuzz/distortion

VCAs fuzz Published on Aug 23, 2019 cirtcele

"Short demo of the fuzz section on this triple VCA."

"This 8HP module contains 3 VCAs and a fuzz/distortion. The VCAs are similar to the ones used in the NLC Cluster; simple OTA based but work very well.

The fuzz/distortion is part of the bottom VCA and is a typical diode based affair, on the PCB the space for these are thru-hole so you can install Si or Ge diodes or LEDs. Turn the Fuzz pot to 0 if you just want VCA.

PCB = USD18
Panel = USD20
assembled = USD160"

nonlinearcircuits segue 1 - WEAR HEADPHONES

Published on Jun 13, 2015 cirtcele

"This is the 1st start-up of this module (panner/VCA), so was not calibrated. The inputs are a pulse and tri wave from two different VCOs, CV duties are a tri wave from a LFO. When calibrated you should see the waveform morph from 100% pulse to 100% tri-wave. It gets close in this vid but needs some tweaking."

LDRama 1

cirtcele

Light from the film controls the patch.

"1st attempt to make a demo with this module, using an excerpt from the public domain film Daughter of Dementia to generate CVs. Yes my phone is a bit big (A21) but works fine, the design suits regular 5x2 inch phones.If you want to use your synth for making soundtracks, this module is pretty useful.

The video shown is playing full screen on my phone, which is sitting on a bank of LDRs (light dependent resistors). As the LDRs change corresponding to what is on the screen, the circuit generates a variety of CVs based on different sections of the screen."
