Roland Introduces Cloud Version of the Classic JV-1080

Left pic via Ask.Audio

And the announcement via Roland:

"4.8 Holiday Update is Live!

First, the big news...

This holiday season, the folks at Roland Cloud have been working extra hard to bring you a giant dose of holiday cheer. For starters, we’re overjoyed to deliver the highly-anticipated, Roland Cloud software adaptation of one of the most popular synthesizers in history: The Roland JV-1080.

The most famous of the Roland PCM powerhouses, the Roland JV-1080 is the ‘down to the circuit’ inspiration for the Roland Cloud JV-1080 software plugin. It was a huge success with artists and producers, and eventually lead to even more powerful models in the series such as the JV-2080 and XV-5080.

While the Roland Cloud JV-1080 has the look, feel and factory patches of the original, it has the expanded effects, additional waveforms, and increased polyphony of its successors. It’s like the JV-1080 you know and love, but enhanced to go toe to toe in your DAW with any contemporary software synthesizer.

If you are a Roland Cloud Core Member or are enjoying our 30 day free trial, you should see the JV-1080 available for download and installation via Roland Cloud Manager!"

"Features

PCM Heaven
Throughout the 1990s, Roland digital synthesizers based on PCM sampled waveforms formed the basis of music as diverse as R&B, pop, hip-hop, new wave and film scores. Some of these sounds, originally meant to mimic acoustic instruments, became so iconic themselves that they’ve become a permanent part of the collective musical sound palette. Some say it’s the most recorded sound module in history, and lately artists have been utilizing these sounds again, in new and modern ways.

The JV-1080 is the most famous of the Roland PCM powerhouses, and the inspiration for the Roland Cloud JV-1080. It was a huge success with artists and producers, eventually leading to even more powerful models like the JV-2080 and XV-5080. While the Roland Cloud JV-1080 has the look, feel and factory patches of the original, it has the expanded effects, additional waveforms, and increased polyphony of its successors. Bottom line: this is the ultimate in 90s-era Roland sound—now in a modern plugin for your DAW.

More of everything
The Roland Cloud JV-1080 has everything artists love about the original hardware plus new capabilities from its successors. Including the 448 waveforms of the original, the JV-1080 plugin has over 1000 waveforms to combine and mutate into fresh, original patches. Effects are an integral part of the JV-1080 sound and here the original 40 MFX types have been expanded to 78, along with more reverb and chorus algorithms. The Roland Cloud JV-1080 also features double the polyphony, two additional time-variant low-pass filters, a step LFO and enhanced Matrix Control functions.

Prime Digital
Dripping with retro-cool stabs and effects, iconic guitars and strings, and evocative plucked and ethnic instruments, the JV-1080 is also a deep, programmable synthesizer capable of some neat digital tricks. Layers of meticulous PCM samples, two LFOs, multiple time variant filters, a flexible modulation matrix and effects galore make the JV-1080 a formidable weapon for those who know how to wield it. The Roland Cloud JV-1080 has full graphical control of parameters making tone-crafting feel new and exciting, whether it’s adding authentic 90s vibe to a track or reimagining these sounds in new ways."

The Synthesis Technology E340 is a super-saw/sine oscillator capable of generating up to 8 waveforms per output. If you want massive bass and lead voices like the JP-8000 supersaw, or thick ambient drones as if played from a slow rotary speaker, the E340 is the perfect audio source for your synth patches.

Detune the swarm of oscillators using SPREAD or with randomly filtered noise using CHAOS and CHAOS BW (bandwidth). Reset the phase of all waveforms using the SYNC trigger input, which can use another oscillator to produce a sync-lead sound.

This module supports VCV Rack’s polyphonic cables, so with 16 voices, you can generate a total of 128 waveforms per output.

This VCV Rack software module uses the original firmware from the hardware Synthesis Technology E340 module.

MOTM-520 Cloud Generator Demos

via Paul Schreiber of MOTM on AH:

"Here are 4 "identical" demos of the MOTM-520 Cloud Generator hardware. The difference is the waveform used. In all cases the audio is unfiltered and mono. The MP3 encoding is 64K, so the overall dynamic range/brightness is somewhat compressed. But you will get the general idea.

Sounds are from turning the front panel controls (Pitch, Spread, Chaos).

Cloud Generator Expansion module (CGX)

This is an image of the MOTM Cloud Generator Expansion module LCD being tested. Some details on the expansion module:

"* 5 Expansion jacks, comprising:
SAW OUT
TRI OUT
CHAOS CV OUT - user defined DC voltage that is 'mapped' to one particular ChaosEngine element. So it's a wiggley voltage :)
PATCH SEL IN - when a jack is inserted, a negative voltage reduces the current patch # and a positive voltage increases the current patch #. -5V will be mapped to Patch #1, and +5V will be Patch #16 and intermediate voltages mapped accordingly.
AUX CV IN - a user defined CV input that can modulate a CG parameter, ie it has the same effect as 'turning the encoder knob' of that parameter. Mapped to -5V is minimum, +5V maximum, intermediate voltages mapped accordingly. 3U wide module."

NAMM: Synthesis Technology

http://www.synthtech.com/
via Sonic State
"Designer Paul Schrieber takes us through the nuances of his new E580 Resampling Mini Delay Eurorack module."

Update: in via Eric

Robert Rich Synthesis Technology

"Robert Rich was on hand to talk about a couple of new modules from Synthesis Technology, the Cloud Generator and the Morphing Terrarium.

The Cloud Generator:

'The MOTM-520 contains 16 independent digital oscillators, each with Sine and Pulse outputs. The Sine outputs are very low distortion, less than 0.1%. The Square/Pulse waves can be PWM'd by an external control voltage or even audio. The sum of all 16 oscillators is routed to the SINE OUT and the SQR OUT jacks.'

Morphing Terraruim:

'a unique wavetable vco with 2 independent waveform outputs. unlike similar designs, the e350 is a fully self-contained, 1v/oct vco. what sets the e350 apart from previous wavetable oscillators is the voltage-controlled morphing.'"

Synthtech E370 Quad Morphing VCO on Kickstarter

Synthesis Technology is seeking funding for their E370 Quad Morphing VCO on Kickstarter.

"Feb. 17, 2017

Synthesis Technology launches their first Kickstarter program today, the E370 Quad Morphing VCO. A 54HP wide Euro module, the E370 uses improved algorithms from the E340 Cloud Generator, the E350 Morphing Terrarium and the E330 Multi-Mode VCO for 96Khz, 16-bit sound. The microSD card allows users to load in their own wavetables and store presets. Shipping in October, the E370 is a skiff-friendly, highly user-programmable oscillator bank. Visit the campaign page for videos, audio files and full specifications."

"The E370 Quad Morphing VCO is a Eurorack-compatible module containing 4 independent digital voltage-controlled oscillators.

The E370 Quad Morphing VCO is a DSP-based, quad oscillator Eurorack module from Synthesis Technology. Using improved algorithms from the E350 Morphing Terrarium, the E340 Cloud Generator and the new E330 Multi-Mode VCO, the E370 is the most technically advanced Euro oscillator available. The four VCOs can be individually controlled, used in a set of two pairs, or ganged in “Unison”. A full-color TFT display is used in a ‘shallow depth’ menu system and can show each VCO’s output in real-time (oscilloscope mode). A micro-SD card slot allows users to load in their own custom wavetables and to save & load presets into the E370.

The E370 is 54HP wide and has a depth behind the panel of 48mm (1.89in). It uses a 16-pin shrouded header (standard Euro power, the cable is included) and the target power consumption is +12V @155ma and -12V @40ma. The final power will be available once the project is funded and the module is running the code and the TFT backlight current is determined. About 35% of the current off +12V is determined by the setting of TFT brightness."

Din Sync Drum Dokta 2 jam

Published on Mar 11, 2015 ISOTROPOSPHERE

"Hail, and Amen, the Drum Dokta 2 has arrived...

Din Sync has really hit it with this module, so much fun.

Here I am playing with it fresh out of the box and after a read of the manual "Yes Paul I did.". The first track was extended to 64 steps so I reset that and programmed this beat here at 16.

The Synthesis technologies cloud generator starts us out and I am manually sending it cv via Pressure Points pads. I then start the clock on the Acidlab Autobot which starts the Drum Dokta in turn. The Autobot is sending pitch cv and Accent cv to a Din Sync OSC303 v2 saw wave out to a Autobot gated QMMG. Assorted synth recordings made with my 40 second voice recorder kit manually triggered and coming in with the cloud generator sound. Other audio coming from the Radio Music module thrown in at a couple points.

There is a secondary bass drum being triggered by the DD2 bass drum trigger out from the Delptronics little drummer boy. This was to fatten the DD2 bass without adding in any of the RYO vactrol gain and distortion portion of the DD2.

Sorry for the wiggly camera as I am groovin' to the beat and shaking both the camera tripod and the stand for the modular.

Thanks Paul (Din Sync) and your collaborators for this wonderful module.

Enjoy!!!"

Synthesis Technology E340 Cloud Generator

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The synthesis technology e340 contains 8 sine and sawtooth vcos with unique modulation capabilities. the term 'cloud oscillator' was first used by ambient musician robert rich when he was recording his 'bestiary' cd. he wanted to define a new type of "buzzing, swarming cloud of sine waves" and after some experimentation, was able to create such a timbre using 24 individual motm modules. now, 8 years later, the technology is available to have this new range of sounds in a 14hp wide euro module.

In its basic form, the e340 is a 2-output, wavetable vco that is generating 16 waveforms at once. modular users quickly discover that in order to get the large, fat notes multiple oscillators are needed that are slightly detuned. this can get expensive quickly, and then you have to deal with the tracking differences, additional mults for the cables and mixers for the outputs. the e340 combines all of these, eliminates the tracking errors and adds the added dimension of being able to control just how "buzzy" the cloud can go. if spread and chaos are set to '0', the e340 behaves like a standard analog vco, but with a very pure sinewave output (less than 0.3% thd) and a standard sawtooth wave.

Simple detuning can sound really good, but the e340 adds 2 controls never seen on any modular: chaos and chaos bandwidth (bw). once you set the degree of detuning using the spread control, you can then add 'animation' to the detuning by dialing in chaos. the chaos randomly 'wiggles' every vco's pitch, while the chaos bw controls the 'speed of the wiggle'. this adds the "swarming of bees" effect at the extreme settings, and in the low settings the subtle pitch changes are similar to a slow-speed leslie effect.

If monster bass lines and sawtooth leads (like the old roland supersaw jp8000 setting) are what you want, the e340 delivers like no other vco. you can select 2, 4 or 8 detuned sawtooths and vary the relative phasing under voltage control. and like the jp8000, the e340 has sync input as well..."

Synthesis Technology E352 Cloud Terrarium VCO Eurorack Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Synthesis Technology E352 combines the latest 200MHz 32-bit ARM DSP with SynthTech's Cloud and Morphing algorithms found in the legendary E340 Cloud Generator and the E350 Morphing Terrarium.

The VCO is based upon a unique implementation of wavetable synthesis using 256 fixed-sample-length tables of 16-bit values. Each bank in memory consists of 64 wavetables, in an 8x8 array (like a chessboard). The proprietary DSP algorithms then allow either smooth or 'glitched' morphing between the wavetables in various ways. The E352 comes with 3 factory banks (192 total waves) and internal FLASH memory to hold 26 user-defined banks. This allows over 1,650 individual wavetables to be accessible. The free, cross-platform WaveEdit program is used to generate and import WAV files to user Banks.

Each VCO has 3 CV inputs (called Parameters or PARMs) which the VCO mode assigns to functions within that algorithm. In addition, there is a hard SYNC input, and the FM can be set to exponential or 3 ranges of TZFM (Thru-Zero FM)."
