Crumar Performer easy modification for release envelope

YouTube via sounddoctorin
"The Crumar performer is a great sounding string/brass machine. One real let down to me is the fact that when you engage the Brass you kill all sustaining of the strings and it all operates on the short preset release time. In this video Bob Weigel of Sound Doctorin' shows how to install a couple switches that allow you to select between factory default, brass envelope only extended and brass and string. The attack of the string is compromised because of the way that is done on the performer but I find that this mode gives a wide new range of performance applications to the instrument."

Korg Poly Ensemble PE-1000 YouTube's 1st Poly Ensemble Video

YouTube via tardis454
"I just got this old dogger today. It's a complete with case and pedal 1976 Korg Poly Ensemble PE-1000. I have been looking for a good strings synth for a while, and I think 've finally found a keeper. I chose this in lieu of an Arp Solina, and a Crumar Performer. Please excuse my crappy playing, and the even crappier lighting. This is just a sound demo using the expression aka modulation pedal it came with. There will be more videos of this synth soon... :o)"

Sequencer Development (Last Stage)

YouTube via nathanielscott
"So, I have about got the kicks worked out of my first sequencer. Everything works from the start, stop, step push buttons, to the Portamento control, though the portamento is a bit glichey (I need to research way to build that bit with more control).

The video shows some toy keyboards that I hacked to gain gate control over the onboard sequencers. The Casio SK-1 may not really be a total toy but the little grey Lonestar keyboard totally is. I paid three bucks for it at a thrift shop a couple of weeks ago.

I still need to build a better VCO. I have done very little research in this area and I feel that a good VCO would go a long way to a better performance feel, thereby giving better user experience in playing music. (just a thought)

The last bit of the video has music recorded with the sequencer but the VCO is run through a large amp and miked, and also DIed, so are the other keyboards wich include my Poly-61 and Crumar Performer."

Ketron Solton Programmer 24s Italo Disco Vintage Analog Synth w/footpedals/cases

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is known as the Italo Disco synth, but it is capable of so much more. Do a search on YouTube for "Solton Hungry Like the Wolf" to see what this synth is really capable of. But that really only scratches the surface. These were used as sort of one-man synthpop bands back in the day, were found on a lot of italo-disco hits, and have enjoyed quite a cult following as of late. They were made in Italy, and have now become very rare to find, particularly in the US, and especially in this condition. It has a really warm sound, due to the SSM chips used in the circuitry. The string synth is incredibly rich sounding, similar to a Crumar Performer. The synth sounds like a Roland SH-101. The bass synth is very punchy, similar to a Moog bass or even a TB-303. You have full control over the volume levels of each of the 8-bit drum sounds, and the drum programming is very intuitive, sounding very similar to a LinnDrum. You can also swap out eproms if you have an eprom burner. The synth sounds are incredibly flexible, with sliders to control the brilliance of the sound, sliders to control the sustain of the bass notes, and sliders to control the volume of the piano, strings, bass, accordion, and synth sounds."
