Machine – An Elektron-Users community production - Benefit Album

machine video preview from t IB on Vimeo.

Release Date: 9/17/2010
Machine is a unique compilation album and collaborative effort, produced by volunteers from within the Elektron-Users.com online community. All proceeds of the album will be donated to the world wildlife fund.

The album consists of 15 inspiring tracks of contemporary electronic music, crafted by artists from all corners of the world. The tracks and artists are united by an interpretation of the concept of machine, and the loud and proud use of Elektron musical instruments. The love of Elektron’s instruments has been a primary inspiration behind the album, and what united the Elektron-Users community to begin with.

Machine - a single word and concept that has guided the imagination of electronic mu-sicians for decades: one word that has captured the attention of electronic music mak-ers, from the early pioneers to the electronic luminaries of today. As relevant as ever, we have chosen this concept to provide a starting point for the Machine compilation album. The compilation seeks to investigate various aspects of this term, and bring some new interpretations to the table.

Machine is the second compilation crafted by the Elektron-Users community, and we hope it will bring as much joy as our first compilation, the 45 tribute did.

www.machine-project.com

Track List:
1. Koshi Mazaki ft Kirlian - Neuralnet 1.3
2. Nature Program - Growth Chart
3. Luke's Anger and Gosh - The Joy Of Sysex
4. Pokelok & Gys - Civilization
5. Beautiful Planet Earth - Random Order

12. Rrine - Carpon Leak
13. Syl Kougaï - Atoll Mécanique Swing
14. Indigo Fire & Johnathon Doe - End of Line
15. Microluv - Monsoon Dream

The compilation consists primarily of electronic music but it isn't specific to any sub-genre.

Project History: The project grew out of a thread at Elektron-Users in which a number of users expressed interest in a musical collaboration on a more public and broad scale. Our community is comprised of many creative individuals of varied discipline, from professional musicians, software and hardware develop-ers, to visual artists and educators. The possibility of drawing from within that talent pool to create a musical product that would represent the richness and personality of our community while laying a serious and modern slice of electronic music on the world was too ripe to ignore and thus, Machine was born.

Song Selection: From the more than 70 tracks submitted by the community for consideration, a hand-picked music selection committee narrowed them down to the 15 tracks you will find on the Machine album. The tracks were evaluated on their musical integrity and their loud-and-proud use of Elektron instruments. Considerations were also made for collaborative efforts and meaningful musical exploration of the Machine concept.

Name Significance: The Machine concept, as project participants have come to understand it, can be read in depth in the accompanying digital liner notes and on the website at www.machine-project.com

About Elektron Music Machines: (taken from http://www.elektron.se/company)
We are Elektron. Our aim is to pioneer the development of electronic instruments by creating innovative, user friendly and magic sound sources. We have been in business since 1998 and are constantly moving forward. The sky is the limit.

The ambition
Making music should be fun. That is why our instruments are designed the way they are. They are made to encourage creativity and exploration. But functionality is not the only thing that is important to us. We want to create beautiful machines, perfect fusions of technology and aesthetics. An Elektron machine should offer the superior experience only a lovingly crafted piece of hardware can provide.

The team
The Elektron team possesses a wide range of competences. Our skills include electron-ic engineering, hardware and software programming, journalism, graphic design, inter-action design and music industry experience. More or less all of us are musicians. This makes us a dynamic company with a firm grasp of all aspects of product development. We know what it takes to make good machines.

The community
Our instruments can be heard on everything from underground releases to platinum selling albums. Needless to say, we are very proud of our user base. User initiatives like the Elektron-users forum, where people come together to discuss electronic music in general and Elektron machines in particular, make us extra proud. We are glad to be a part of a movement with an inviting and creative atmosphere.

"Model:Cycles
Six track FM based groovebox
Scale angles dense and jagged, glide over plains vast and fluid, or sink into mists of dissonance. To model is to shape the formless. Model:Cycles is a six track FM based groovebox that brings exploring into the heart of sound sculpting.

With six unique Machines in one lightweight unit you can effortlessly mold rhythm and melody across the digital spectrum using instant, tactile controls. Exploration made attainable.

Define the formless
The six Machines of the digital FM engine are unique to Model:Cycles, and cover both percussive and melodic synths, allowing you to make full, varied compositions. The four core Synth Controls put the tools of sound sculpting right in front of you, altering the behavior of each Machine differently and letting you push them to the limit. Every sound has a start, where will you take it?
Dedicated × 12
Dedicated knobs let you twist each Machine far and wide with wild, unexpected results waiting to be discovered. Use Control All to heave a parameter to the extreme and back again across every track. Elektron’s powerful sequencer gives you the freedom to record every move live or program the sounds and parameters of your composition one step at a time.
Light weight, heavy sound
Whether you use it as a versatile live instrument or groovebox on the go to pick up and craft full-blown compositions away from your studio, exploration has rarely felt so convenient and unimpeded.

Elektron Syntakt. Techno and Electro Patterns

video upload by Adam Jay

"Some patterns I’ve made with Syntakt. No processing.

Things I love: The machines! The flexibility!

It can be so many things.
8 tracks of Model cycles chord machines with deeper control, 2x LFO per track, full envelopes, dual filters, p-lockable FX track. Or half a Rytm , plus new digital drum synth and bass/lead synth machines.

Or a mix between.

All with a tasty chunk of analog Heat drive, filter, and EG, but p-lockable!

There is an inverted envelope shape in the analog fx that I use as a master compressor. The drive is lovely. I also love using some of the analog kicks with a bandpass filter for textures. Can even get kinda of vinyl pops and clicks out of these.

Can have up to 3 simultaneous analog DVCO machines."

Full details:

12 Track Drum Computer & Synthesizer

Enter a sonic metropolis with Syntakt. Analog and Digital synthesis. Drum and melody. In full fusion.

All your sound crafting, sequencing, and performance needs are fulfilled, in an all-round music mega box that fits in your lap. Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too. Experience epic sounds from the past, pulling others into existence from the future.

The streets of Syntakt are never-ending, the neon lights are never-dimming, its underground is fathomless. Discover worlds within worlds. Adore now. Explore forever.

Meet the machines
There are 35 sound-generating machines to call on, covering a wide range of drum and melodic sounds. Some machines have been reimagined from Analog Rytm and Model:Cycles, with deeper sound control for the latter, while others are entirely new to the world.

For you to create and personalize your sound, we’ve made sure you’ve got a set of parameter controls tailor-made for each machine. They let you quickly tweak the nature of each type of sound, showing you just the relevant options. Comprehensive without being overwhelming. Let loose with analog or digital overdrive, depending on the tracks you’re playing with.

The graphics more than play their part too, with plenty of animated icons offering visual guidance and extra clarity on how each parameter affects the sound. The joys of tweaking shouldn’t only be for the ears after all.

Special effects
Syntakt lets you route any of your synth tracks or external audio sources through the FX block. This gives you analog distortion and filtering, and a couple of LFOs to go to town with. Additionally, you can also call on Delay and Reverb as powerhouse send effects.

And all of the above effects can be sequenced with the FX track. Have them kick in at just the right moment. Add accents and dramatic changes to the selected tracks or external audio. Or use it as a master track for ducking and gating effects.

Modify the moment
Wield a little extra trig craft using the four modifiers, offering four varied levels of expression. Configure the first two modifiers to give you the retrig or velocity behavior you desire, and use the other two to access custom intensities of other parameters. They’re ready for action regardless of which synth track you’re using.

And the best bit is that they don’t just give you that extra playability fun in the here and now, you can also capture the moment by recording to the sequencer.

The keys to the city
Syntakt’s keyboard mode gives you a whole bunch of different scales to play with.

There are some familiar faces and some maybe a little less familiar for you to try out, helping you discover new places and taking things to another level.

Play across a single octave like on a piano keyboard. Or use fold, and have several octaves laid out in front of you.

Deep sound-shaping
Syntakt comes full of filter and envelope goodness. All tracks have a Multimode filter to put to use allowing you to emphasize different parts of your sound, with the digital tracks also able to call on Parametric EQ and a Base-width filter – an additional filter giving you even more sonic control.

Choose from two amplitude envelope types to define the ideal contour of your sound. Try out the ADSR envelope – for your wicked synth lines – or the simpler AHD envelope – perfect for transient percussive sounds.

Elektron Digitakt II: 3 New Features We're Loving - Comb Filter, Stretch Machine and Performance Kit

video upload by Group Technologies Australasia

"Elektron Digitakt II is here and its only been a hot minute since we received this powerful little groovebox sampler. Elektron have managed to pack a stack of great new features that we are making our way through and having too much fun with. In this video we go through 3 new features that have piqued our interest in the short time we've had it.

1. Comb Filter — Elektron have added more filters in the way of FLTR Machines, where one chooses the type of filter they want per track. There are 5 to choose from with the Comb filter sounding amazing and a first for an Elektron box. Comb filter can twist the timbre and transform any sound into something totally new, foreign, or alien like. Throw any sound through the Comb filter and you'll have fun seeing and hearing how far you can take it. Great for sound designers wanting metallic type sounds with rich resonant overtones.

FLTR Machines have 5 different filter types to choose from; Multi-Mode, where you can morph from Lowpass to Bandpass to Highpass filter. EQ, is a parametric equalizer for some precision filtering. Lowpass 4 is a 4-pole lowpass filter with a 24 dB slope for that extra bite. Legacy is the filter from the original Digitakt switchable between lowpass and highpass. The Comb filter has that metallic sound, pitch tuned and crazy resonant overtones as demonstrated in this video.

Similarly on other Elektron boxes, one chooses a 'machine' that relates to the type of synth engine you assign per track. Although here Elektron have adopted that method for different filters. This is a smart way to manage a number of new filters and parameters specific to those filters.

2. Stretch Machine — Elektron have added a new sample playback engine, Stretch machine that allows samples and loops to automatically stretch to the tempo of your pattern/project. It's a granular engine that works extremely well and a feature many Digitakt users have been craving!

3. Performance Kit Mode — here you can make changes to the parameters of a saved kit over several patterns and then smoothly recall the kit and continue jamming. Think of it as an 'undo' function for your sounds and kits. The Digitakt II can also save 1024 kits, so there plenty of flexibility to tweak your kits whilst performing and not be worried about losing the great kits you've created.

There's way more to explore on the new Digitakt II such as 3x LFOs, 128 steps per pattern, the assignable Control All Config, 4x Trig Modes, Euclidean Sequencer and much more. And did someone mention the audio fidelity, outstanding! We'll have more on the Digitakt II real soon.

Synth Jams by Jay Hosking

Published on Jul 26, 2019 Jay Hosking

Spotted the first video in the playlist above on discchord.com. The Playlist contains 21 videos. You can use the player controls to skip around. Descriptions for each are below. All videos feature various gear so you should be able to get an idea of some of the capabilities of each featured. You can check out Jay Hosking's music at https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com/.

Note, more will likely get added over time. The following playlist is as of this post:

1. Jam w/ Vermona PERfourMER MkII, Elektron Analog Rytm MkII, OTO Bam, Styrmon Big Sky, Fugue Machine
A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some pretty tough news that has me sentimental.

I loved the Elektron Analog Four MkII so much that I picked up the Analog Rytm MkII. My feelings on the Rytm are mixed. On the one hand, it's missing that spontaneity and spark of units like the Arturia DrumBrute Impact and Teenage Engineering OP-Z, with no readymade performance effects, roller bar, or global randomization, and a slower workflow. On the other hand, I really like its analogue sound engines, any unused tracks can be converted into impressive analogue mono synths, it does beautiful things to samples, and like all Elektron boxes it integrates the effects into the sequencer really nicely.

As for the Vermona PERfourMER MkII, I'd been pining over it for ages, and it was fun to finally tinker with it. The Perfourmer definitely excels in the mid- and high- range, and I love how the independent voices making really interesting voices for chords.

Vermona PERfourMER MkII + OTO Bam — Three synths (left chord note, right chord note, melody)
Vermona PERfourMER MkII + Strymon Big Sky — Bass chord note synth
Elektron Analog Rytm MkII — Drums, samples, sample melody, punchy bass
Fugue Machine (iOS) — Sequencing
IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo — MIDI out from iOS

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little sidechain compression on the Perfourmer (to emphasize the sound that the Rytm was already making), and compression/limiting on the master.

Elektron Announces Overbridge Computer Integration

"We are very proud to reveal the forthcoming Overbridge implementation for Analog Four, Analog Keys, and Analog Rytm. This breakthrough technology completely erases the line between analog hardware and software plug-in instruments. For the first time in history, seamless DAW integration of analog synthesizers and drum machines is a reality.

Full VST/AU control

Thanks to Overbridge, the Analog range of Elektron machines can be deeply integrated with PC and Mac computers. The customized and machine specific software plugins, available in VST and AU formats, give direct parameter access over USB and allows efficient DAW based sound editing and sequencing. Overbridge merges the functionality of software plug-ins with the unmatched sound of analog hardware.

Bi-directional USB audio streaming

Overbridge makes multi tracking easy. Connect a USB cable and record multiple Elektron machine voices to separate DAW tracks in 24 bit quality. Or send audio from a DAW, process it with the analog circuitry of the Elektron machines and bring back the results to a new DAW track – all over a single USB cable and without timing issues. Overbridge even allows the Analog range of machines to be used as multi-channel USB sound cards.

Total Recall

Management of analog sounds and sequences has never been easier. Any adjustments made either directly on the Elektron hardware or via the software plug-in can be automatically recalled when loading a DAW project. Overbridge offers ultimate convenience when handling Elektron machine data.

Overbridge will be a part of a free OS update expected to be released Q4 2014. The OS update will work on all Analog Four, Analog Keys, and Analog Rytm units in existence."

Electronic Jams by lostsystems1

Published on Oct 2, 2017 lostsystems1

Spotted this one on discchord.

Playlist:
1. Channel Intro

2. "Diper lord" - Novation Peak, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
I've swapped the DSI Pro2 for the Novation Peak. Really loving the sound of it, but barely scratching the surface so far. Also added the push to the mix, to be able to play the peak. The idea is to jam the peak on the push, and then later let the digitakt control it, but i've yet to reconnect everything with the midi thru box i recently got. Maybe for the next one ! Just wanted to get this out the door, enjoy !

3. "Purse Whisperer" - Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
Not really sure what is going on here, but i like it.

4. "Crude Mint" - Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
I always feel like a straight kick is an easy way out, sometimes though it just works.

5. "Kids on Bikes" - Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
Finally got around to making the Digitakt control both the monologue and the DSI Pro2, the monlogue also controls the mother-32. Enjoy !

6. "New friends" - Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
Getting a bit of BOC vibe on this one :)

7. "Scrap Overhead" Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32

8. "Our peril" Dsi Pro2, Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Korg Monologue, KaossPad, Mother 32
Trying out the DSI Pro2 and Kaosspad KP3+ in my setup.

9. "Empty Yesterdays" Elektron Digitakt, Rytm, A4, Op-1, Mother 32, KORG monologue
Trying out the DIGITAKT in my setup, clock is sent via USB from my main imac (Ableton) to analog4, which then controls the rytm through midi out. The rytm midi thru, goes to mother32. The op-1 gets the clock from my second mac via usb, which in its turn gets the clock via Abeton Link, and so does the ipad with the elastic drums ipad app. Digitakt also gets the clock from the USB of the macbook, and is controlling the monologue program changes and CC messages through midi out, as well as playing a few samples. Everything goes through the soundcraft spririt studio 24ch mixer, SPL Dynamaxx & Charsima. with TLA Ivory2 EQ on the master, and Line6 POD XT pro as an aux send for the mixer. Recorded with gopro session. (Yes i need to get a better camera and lighting conditions)

10. "Unpredictible nest", KORG monologue, Elektron Analog Rytm, Analog 4, Mother 32, Op-1
Trying out the KORG monologue in my setup, clock is sent via USB from my main imac (Ableton) to analog4, which then controls the rytm through midi out. The rytm midi thru, goes to mother32, the op-1and monologue get their clock from my second mac via usb, which in its turn gets the clock via Abeton Link, and so does the ipad with the elastic drums app. Everything goes through the soundcraft spririt studio 24ch mixer, SPL Dynamaxx & Charsima. with TLA Ivory2 EQ on the master, and Line6 POD XT pro as an aux send for the mixer. Two Elektron Octatrack Tracks by Paul Shemyakin

Kenza Farah - "Toi Et Moi" (Elektron Octatrack + Analog Four Remix)

Published on May 31, 2015 Paul Shemyakin

Second track below.

"This is my remix of the very sentimental song “Toi Et Moi” written by my favorite French singer – Kenza Farah.

The remix was created using hardware synthesizer and sampler - Elektron Analog Four + Elektron Octatrack DPS-1. No software was used for remix creation, performance and recording. Yes, these Swedish Elektron machines can be used for creating the complete pop-music composition :)

This is a short description of how it’s been made. During the composition only 15 patterns are used. Octatrack & Analog Four are synced for pattern changes. Octatrack is in Arranger Mode (automatically switches patterns for me).

Tracks:

A. Elektron Octatrack (15 patterns, 6 scenes):

TR1: Kick + Clap / One Shot Samples, FX - Filter+Dark Verb
TR2: Hats
TR3: Sliced Loop (different slices&locks per step, linear slice locks function was used for cutting and rearranging the drum loop)
TR4: Pad (loop)
TR5: “Toi Et Moi” original track (Piano+Vocal only), stretched by Octatrack to 95 bpm.
TR6: FX slices from original track + Periodical Additional Melodic/Reversed Loops + Crash (Crash is programmed with one shot triggers, activated by Function+YES during performance)
TR7: Additional loop – Acoutic Drums & Breaks Loops
TR8: Master Track (FX1 – Filter, FX2 – compressor in parallel, mix 50/50)

B. Elektron Analog Four (15 patterns):

TR1: Pluck Lead
TR2: Arp/Pluck Lead
TR3: Bass
TR4: Lead
+ 3 performance mode settings (A: TR1+TR2 filter opening/closing, B: TR3 filter opening + decay time, C: TR4 – Filter Opening+Reverb Send Amount)

Original track is from Kenza Farah’s album Authentik.
Thank you, Kenza, for the inspiration and great song!
Lots of Respect from Moscow, Russia. ;)

Enjoy! ;-)"

Elektron Octatrack Trance & Breaks Remix Live (Neonim - "Grenadin")

Published on Jun 13, 2012 Paul Shemyakin

Good overview on this one.

"SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH
Remix starts at 3:00! (please, skip my bla-bla-bla).

This track is the example that you can make the whole track using only two devices, and the Octatrack can be used as DAW - playing beats, vocal samples, doing some midi sequence.. Very cool, magical device!

Thank you for watching!"
