Laser Harp gets stuck, has problems, goes crazy!! Jean Michel Jarre unique footage!

YouTube via jdkhzn. Gotta love technical problems. For those that were in doubt, this does shows laser harp is a functional controller (when working properly of course).
"Jean-Michel Jarre performed on May 26 2009 in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.
During Rendez-Vous 2 the laser harp part, the laser harp got stuck and he had to reset the midi to eventually finish the songs... This showed the laser harp is REAL!!! Enjoy this unique footage!! :)"

Published on Oct 18, 2015

"The classic Laser Harp sound, approximated on the DSI Prophet '08 in a step-by-step tutorial. For those of us not fortunate enough to own an original Elka Synthex.

Just add a good reverb (Lexicon MX-300 used here), no other effects needed. Have fun!"

Bernard Szajner's Laser Harp

"The first laser harp ever made was a framed laser harp. It was created 1981 by the frenchman Bernard Szajner and was named “Syringe” from a science fiction book."

"Technical explainations:
His harp was powered by a Spectra Physics 5 Watts argon ion laser. The beam was sent through a fibre optics conductor to a line grating, where the beam was split into the 12 “strings” of laser light"

Elka Synthex - original Laser Harp sound

YouTube Uploaded by wavebox2011 on Feb 28, 2011

""C'est le sound que fait la musique". Mister Jarre's Laser Harp has written history, even if it's just a controller and the real Laser Harp sound comes from an Elka Synthex, which is doing its job in the background.

Some say that Jean-Michel Jarre used the Synthex's factory preset, while others claim he modified or even recreated it for his music. Never mind who's right or wrong - it's a classic and really good synthesizer sound. Let's have a listen, directly at the source..."

Jean Michel Jarre Laser Harp sound by Elka Synthex

Published on Sep 4, 2013 Magnus Gladén·30 videos

"This is the classic Laser Harp sound Jean Michel Jarre use. It is actually a preset in the Elka Synthex, number 46. Jarre used other presets on the Synthex right out of the box.

To create a laser harp sound, synchronize OSC2 to OSC1 and here comes the secret why many fail to create the sound...

The sound uses Glide with Speed and Amount to modulate pitch of the synchronized oscillator. Many people think that an envelope is modulating pitch but it is Glide.

The sound also use pulse wave on OSC1 and OSC2 use OSC1 to PWM and ring modulator.

Sorry for the sound quality and I don't know which key the song goes."

XILS-lab Releases miniSyn’X

"XILS-lab launches low-cost luscious soft synth emulation of Eighties polysynth par excellence!

'I’ve just got miniSyn’X and am so excited, because the Synthex is a fantastic rarity. Thanks to XILS-lab for giving everyone the opportunity to play with it.'

- Jean-Michel Jarre (April 2015)

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software company XILS-lab is proud to announce availability of miniSyn’X — an authentic, cost-conscious soft synth emulation of a much-loved Eighties-vintage analogue polysynth of Italian origin that helped define the sound of an era — as of April 8...

miniSyn’X is a multi-format (AAX, AU, RTAS, VST), 32- and 64-bit polyphonic, duo-timbral virtual analogue synthesizer plug-in for Mac (OS X 10.5 and later) Windows (XP, Vista, and 7/8) that faithfully emulates the still-sought-after sound of the Synthex, a luscious, 1982-vintage, eight-voice programmable analogue polysynth independently designed by Mario Maggi and built by Italian home organ manufacturer Elka. Indeed, it was much loved by synth luminaries of the day — not least French synth wizard Jean-Michel Jarre, whose well-known Laser Harp performances still emanate exclusively from an amazing-sounding Synthex patch produced by one-time UK demonstrator/ programmer Paul Wiffen and audible in isolation in ‘Second Rendez-Vous’ on Jarre’s multi-million-copy-selling Rendez-Vouz album of 1986. Pity, then, that the Synthex did not sell in such Jarre-like quantities during a four-year, three-stage (50-, 800-, and 1,000-unit) production run, with one last post-production unit being built especially for Stevie Wonder, such was the legendary American singer-songwriter/multi- instrumentalist/record producer’s love for the future-classic instrument that initially failed to fly in the face of the-then ‘art nouveau’ digital age of dominating desirable FM synthesis from Yamaha’s considerably cheaper, MIDI-equipped DX7, and subsequent super-selling, all- singing, all-dancing digital designs from the likes of Roland (D50) and Korg (M1).

Syn'X 2.5: Using the Easy Mode

Published on Oct 28, 2019 xilslab

"In this tutorial, we will see how to use the Easy mode of the Syn'X 2.5, a powerful 8 layers synthesizer.
This mode, reproducing the old synthex feature, is a simple 2 layers synthesizer. Lower and Upper are named according to the part of the keyboard they are assigned when SPLIT is engaged. Among the 8 layer of the Syn'X, Lower is playing layer A and Upper Layer H
At the end of the tutorial we will see how this mode is linked to the Advanced LAYER mode of the Syn'X 2.5"
