Some details on the gear: "It was written on a Roland System 100. The System 101 was fed into the ring modulator of the System 102. The System 104 step sequencer was driven by a trigger pulse from a Roland TR808, The breakdown in the middle of the track was done by changing the pattern of triggers from the TR808 and mashing down on the System 101 Keyboard. There may have been another synth going into the ring Mod on the System 012 but I can't remember right now. I used the system 10 keyboard as a big transposing CV by pressing down different notes. The crazier I pressed different notes the crazier the breakdown got until i just did one of 70's finger sweeps down the keyboard to return to the main riff. Drums are Roland TR909 and a circuit bent Alesis HR16B. Recorded live in one take to two channel Dat from A Yamaha 12 channel mixer."

"recorded live at Awakenings on 21-02-09 performing 4m33s' The Ritual. Put together at short notice for the gig, the band contains John Sherwood (4m33s) with guitarists Lee (Hashtronaut) and Steve (Mooch.sat behind John). The 2 guitarists had never heard the piece until the night of the gig. Not that you'd have guessed, as they added wonderful textures to the music. The whole piece is 1 hour long."

Sequential Circuits Prophet VS

via this auction

One of the few synths that still gives me gear lust. One day... I still wish DSI would come out with an eight voice PEK. I know you can chain the racks, but I'd prefer an all-in-one 8-voice keyboard myself.

As always, click the images...

ETI 4600 synthesiser, DIY, maplin

via this auction
"In the 1970s Maplin sold this synth as a kitset for those who wanted a high quality synth at a fraction of the cost.

It cost about 600 quid in 1978 apparently.

It has at some stage been a fully functioning synth but the previous owner stripped it down to modify it but sadly, He never got there.

This synth would be a good project for someone with the energy and an interest in electronics to restore to its former glory.

All of the costly bits are here such as the case, frontpanel, keyboard, joystick, pin matrix patch panel and even a reverb spring tank.

As shown in the photo, most pots, switches and knobs are there and the green crate is full of the following circuit boards:

2 x VCA mkII
4 x OSC mkII
1 x 1979 keyboard controller
1 x ETI 450A boards
3 x ETI 450B board
3 x ETI 601 filter
1 x mixer board
and many other extra maplin circuit boards.

"Hand Made Analog Synth - Ellis Electronics - Ring mod and Amp mod

UP FOR BID ON EBAY

www.myspace.com/elliselectronics"

"This synth has two ring modulated square wave oscillators. Below each oscillator knob is an amplitude modulation control knob. Combining both of these modulation types creates some very rich and noisy waveforms full of side bands. The amplitude modulation can be turned on and off by the switch below each control knob. If carfully tuned, this synth will create some very intresting beating patterns. There is also a level control at the top right corner for accurate dynamic control.

Runs on an easy to replace 9V battery (INCLUDED)
Check out the pics and watch the video to listen to how it sounds.

1/4 inch output. ON/OFF switch. Blue ultra-bright LED Indicator Light.
Hook it up to effects like delay or distortion to expand the possibilities further.
Very sturdy and protective housing.

"Finally getting some workable results.

Poor lighting & 100% dubious musical content aside, I think this is the way to go - to be honest I didn't expect much from the clock out of the M.F.B CV/MIDI module - I have never really got decent results from MIDI Clock, which is why I own Sync Shift MkII #0024, which can fix the MIDI lag - but sadly not the MIDI slop!

Synth sound is the Blacet Suitcase being controlled by the SEQ-02 with woompwoommp bass & some hand drums from the MPC."

The Pythagorean Lambdoma Harmonic Keyboard

via this auction. You might recognize the Lambdoma from this previous post. You can find additional info at The Lambdoma Home Page. This one sent in via James of Gear Log.

Some details from the auction:
"THE LAMBDOMA HARMONIC KEYBOARD

Create concordant musical intervals with the harmonic keyboard add the magic of micro-tonal harmony to your life and projects tune into elegant solutions with the harmonic keyboard.

'There is geometry in the humming of the strings. There is music in the spacing of the spheres'. (Pythagoras 500BC)

The Lambdoma Matrix is attributed to the philosopher Pythagoras (500 bc) who spent over twenty years as an Egyptian initiate. The concept of the Lambdoma Matrix in the present age is relatively unknown, and is not cited in most dictionaries. On the surface, it appears to be nothing more than a mathematical multiplication and division table. On a closer look however, it bears a one-to-one relationship to musical intervals in a very specific harmonic series. Because of its numerical framework of ratios, it can be translated into frequencies of audible sound. The Lambdoma bears relationships to aromatics, chemistry, crystallography, cybernetics, art, music, geometry, all of which may be explored by those interested in the above disciplines. The Lambdoma bears mathematical relationships to Issac Newton, the Diophantine equations and the Farey series, as well as in the present century to Georg Cantor.

The Pythagorean Lambdoma Harmonic Keyboard has the unique capability of sounding any musical interval in a matrix of harmonic frequencies in the audible range. Its diamond-shaped matrix holds 64 keys in one quadrant. A total of 256 keys in any microtonal keynote may be played. Each keynote produces harmonic stereo intervals relating to the player's chosen keynote. Overlays of the three other quadrants in colors and frequencies of the musical notes (in a C scale) are included. Since another set of overlays of the intervals are based upon geometrical ratios, the shapes of the musical intervals may be seen as the keys are pushed. A user's manual is included on CD.

THE PLHK is divided in 4 quadrants: Oracle, Spiritual, Physical, and Emotional.

THIS Auction Includes a 17" by 9" by 1.5" Pythagorean Lambdoma Harmonic Keyboard, 8 Lambdoma Matrix overlays, power adapter, USB to Midi cable, Tune Smithy Software for PC, and user's manual. BUY IT NOW AND GET ALL 3 LAMBDOMA MATRIX BOOKS ABSOLUTELY FREE!

THE LAMBDOMA HARMONIC KEYBOARD RETAILS FOR $4,000

Description of the Lambdoma Keyboard
The Lambdoma keyboard has a right and a left duality based upon ratios that are <1>1. Ratios that are less than one are on the left side descend. Ratios that are more than 1 are on the right side of the diamond and ascend. When these ratios are multiplied by a frequency representing the musical notations C through C, or Do through Do, eight cycling notes of each scale are heard whether it be C, D, W, F, G, A, B –B or C. Any numerical phenomena may be used as a resonant musical note and placed into an eight-note scale. Therefore all numerical phenomena may be characterized as a musical notation and may be formed into an interdisciplinary data bank limited to eight modalities.

Unique Applications of the Lambdoma Keyboard
The Lambdoma tactile matrix keyboard has the unique ability to generate any keynote through its programming abilities using a Lambdoma_FTS software program with a Vista, XP – ‘Windows’computers. It is this generating feature of the Lambdoma Keyboard that allows any numerical frequency to be used as a fundamental audible frequency and enables an interdisciplinary application to the arts, sciences, education and health modalities.

TUNE SMITHY SOFTWARE
In the 1990’s the software was sent to Robert Walker of Fractal Tune Smithy in England who designed an entire software program for the “therapeutic” uses of the Lambdoma Keyboard, including a frame of Lissajous figures. These Lissajous figures have a one-to-one relationship to all the keys that are played at the same time on the Lambdoma Keyboard. A menu frame and a colored diamond keyboard frame are also shown on the monitor. The keyboard frame shows each of the keys pressed in the different colors depending on the keynote chosen.

BARBARA HERO
Barbara Hero is Founder of the International Lambdoma Research Institute and inventor of the Pythagorean Lambdoma Keyboard. With a Master's degree in mathematics and a background as a music composer and theorist, she combined ancient theories with color, sound and modern technology to create an instrument that brings healing and insight. The relationship between light, color, sound and their mathematical frequencies led Barbara to a deep understanding of the relationship we all have to space, sound and the lives we lead. The Lambdoma allows individuals to tune into their innate vibrations or key notes, allowing them to heal on a spiritual level. Entraining with our intrinsic frequencies connects us to the universal consciousness and gives insight to the goals that we chose for this lifetime."

ROLAND SH-3

"When is the last time you ever saw a Roland SH-3 for sale? I can't say that I've ever seen one on ebay. Sources vary on how many were produced, anywhere from only 40 to a few hundred, either way these are a true rarity. So what is so pecial about the SH3 qand why were so few produced? Roland infringed on the Moog designs for the filter and VCA, once they were caught they changed the filter and VCA designs to their own and released SH-3A. You can read more about that here"
