Kyle Evans - Electronically Modified Didgeridoo Performance @ Georgia Tech

YouTube via yakthekyle. Be sure to see this video.
"A performance with my Electronically Modified Didgeridoo for the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition on Feb. 27 2010. In the finalists round, the competitors were given five minutes to describe and perform their instrument. Besides someone repeatedly stepping on my audio cable (and at one point disconnecting it completely) I thought my performance went pretty well. It was a good opportunity to try out some new techniques."

EXPERIMENTAL SYNTH = FOLKTEK glitch 00000

via this auction
"This custom piece is part of a folktek series entitled "philanthropoid"". Known simply as the Bug series. Also in the series on the site and around the world is the Mantis, dronescape sequencer, the book of sound, the moth, the growling insect, the bug, the octa-hedra, walking stick, pendulum translator and others. The sound is phenomenol and continues to amaze us. It is a sonic symphony of nasty and grimy sweetness, endless layers of sound possibilities emenating from High quality OSC originally based on high tech speech synthesis. Seemingly random bits can be rediscovered time and time again and then there are those moments that you will most likely never rediscover. Endlessly captivating, this piece WILL provide sounds that you will not find in other synthesizers and will astonish you every time you turn it on.

This particular piece features four patchable knobs, and a twelve point magnetic patchbay. This allows you to determine function and provides tons of flexibility. In addition, two more knobs (global knob control and power kill) , glowing lamp power indicator , 2 folktek button/switches for activate and freeze mode sections, reset, 1/4" output, basic manual of function and layout. You'll be able to cipher through waveforms and textures with extreme sensitivity in thousands of ways. Waveforms (individual, or multiple layers) can be captured and maintained, often intermodulating in beautiful and/or disturbing ways. Super sensitive knobs let you filter through tons of sounds and glitchscapes. Albums are waiting to be created here as the sound is quite different from anything else you'll find.."

SH-101 Mods

YouTube via acidchild
"I modified my SH-101 over the past 2 days for extended LFO rates and to keep the Transpose button on. Basically, i added a switch on the Transpose circuit so when switched on, it keeps the transpose function on. So there's no need to press and hold it down now. The LFO mod has 3 positions. Middle = Normal Rate, Up = Very slow to just into the Audio Rate, and Down = Audio Rate to Extreme Audio Rate. These simple mods make the SH-101 even more capable now!"

Obsolete?

Obsolete? from Pixelh8 on Vimeo.

follow-up to this post
"Pixelh8’s work “Obsolete?” is a audio and visual study of the people, machines, history of The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park and looks closely at the themes of mathematics, logic, code-breaking and enciphering. The project was funded by the PRS Foundations new music award and commissioned by The National Museum of Computing.

The music itself is composed using some of the oldest and rarest computers in the world such as the WWII code-breaking machine Colossus Mark 2 Rebuild, and the 1960’s Elliott 803 largely used for mathematics and some of the more commonplace machines such as the BBC Micro. With over thirty machines studied and utilised within the music, it is a combination of both sounds from the internal sound chips and the external electro-mechanical sounds. In addition to this, the piece also utilises such items as the early non-electrical mechanical adding machines.

The project was comprised of twelves pieces of music and accompanying visuals and culminated in two performances at the prestigious Bletchley Park Mansion on March 20th and 21st, 2009.

The project attracted widespread media attention and has been featured on BBC New 24, BBC Look East, BBC South Today, New Scientist Magazine, Dazed & Confused Magazine, Games TM Magazine, Future Music, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Suffolk, BBC Three Counties and covered on several news websites including The Register, MacWorld, bit.tech, Slashdot, The IET, IT Pro and several more.

Available on iTunes, Napster, Spotify and more.

Musikmesse: New Keyboard From Radikal Technologies to be Shown at the Musikmesse

Via the maker himself, Jörg Schaaf, in the Spectralis forum:

"The last update has been published not such a long time ago. The next update will cover more MIDI functionality, some memory managing help and bugfixes - also the knob movement recording will be a part of the next update. But at the moment we are working on a new product that will be presented at the Frankfurt Musikmesse.

No - it's not a Spectralis 3 and it's not a Spectralis keyboard version. But it is a very special keyboard...

I don't believe, that we will have another Spectralis version before summer."

Indigo Redback & Polymorph - Sequence Jam I.avi

YouTube via RanKirlian
"This one is a raw track I prepared for 1 hour or so on a sunday evening while I was tweaking the Polymorph. First string pad is from Quasimidi Polymorph, played via midi from the Access Indigo 2, who also starts sounding on 00:43. Then, on minute 1:29 enters the first sequence, bass sequence comes at 2:09 and shortly after appears the last sequence.

While this is not a very elaborated track, I wanted to share it mostly as a Polymorph demo, a great sounding machine and a great fun sequencer."

Indigo Redback & Polymorph - Sequence Jam II

"Another jam with Access Indigo 2 Redback and Quasimidi Polymorph. The pad and the strings comes from both Redback and a part of the Polymorph. Sequences starts at 1:50.

Same of previous video: not a very elaborated track, but another Polymorph demo, who fits pretty nice on my setup and looks great next to the Redback."

When Lava met Mopho

YouTube via hotchk155
"New toy meets an old one... my new Mopho synth coupled up with my MIDI Lavalamp. I built a little battery powered module using a PIC chip which is doing the voltage to MIDI conversion (from 12 photoresistors attached to the lamp). I'll make a schematic/post the source code and add a link here.
There are also guitar distortion and delay effects on the sound.. it might not be the best demo of the sound capabilities of the Mopho but I though the "racecar" effect went well with the blobs moving round in the lamp..."

Launchpad controlling a Doepfer MAQ16/3

YouTube via attorks
"Last week I bought a Novation Launchpad to experiment further with Ableton Live. But I also wanted to see if the Launchpad can be used to control the Doepfer MAQ16/3. I discovered the AutoMap software provided with the Launchpad is a bit of a disappointment. As far as I know now you cannot send a Program Change message with the buttons. And the MAQ16/3 needs them. I also did not get the MIDI learn function to work but maybe I missed something and the documentation is not much help.

Anyway, I used the MIDI-OX software to translate the MIDI notes, which the Launchpad sends, to Program Change commands with the Data Mapping option. I am only using the top 4 rows. The buttons on the first row turns step 1 to 8 on. The second row turns step 1 to 8 off. The third row sets the first step of the 8 step sequence and the forth row sets the last step of the 8 step sequence. Also the top 4 arrow buttons on the right are used. The first one turns all steps on. The second one turns all steps off. The third one chooses the first row on the MAQ16/3 sequencer and the forth one chooses the second row on the MAQ16/3 sequencer. You first have to choose the row on the sequencer where after the buttons apply for that row. It would be easier if the first four button rows could be used for row 1 on the sequencer and the second four button rows for row 2 but I could not map one note command to two program change commands.

The first row on the MAQ16/3 sequencer drives the Synthesizers.com Modular and the second row the self-built Modular.
This video is a demonstration and not intended to provide you music of a certain quality ;-)"
