The Power Of CS1x - Ep1 - Airwolf, The Terminator, Don't You Want Me, Knight Rider and Jump

video upload by KOSmusic

"For many years my wife and I have wanted to create something dedicated exclusively to the Yamaha CS1x synthesizer. Finally, after so much work, we are very happy to present you this mini series in which the sounds of the CS1x will be the protagonists.

Each episode will consist of 5 famous music presets that I created and performed on the CS1x.

The visual style and structure of these videos is inspired by early 90s learning video tapes.

The initial logo and the music, is a tribute to one of the most important distributors of VHS in those years in the United States, the 'Simitar Entertainment'.

To make these videos useful even for those who just want to learn how to play some pieces of this music from the past with their own keyboard/synth, I filmed the synthesizer from above in order to better understand the keys I press.

In this episode there is a brief description of the CS1x and a demonstration of 5 presets:

• Airwolf Theme - by Sylvester Levay - (Lead)
• The Terminator - Main Title - by Brad Fiedel - (Lead)
• Don't You Want Me - by The Human League - (Brass Chords)
• Knight Rider Theme - by Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larson - (Lead)
• Jump - by Van Halen - (Lead)

For the first time the videos where I play are live (improvised without a metronome). The sound you hear is pure CS1x, with no external effects.

All the presets you heard in this episode are available in SysEx format on my website: https://kosmusicovers.altervista.org/...

Original music:

• Theme - 'Synth From Space' by KOSmusic
• End Credits - 'Automatik' by KOSmusic

A special thanks to my dear friend @Julian Croot, for helping me with the English translation. If you don't already know him, check out his channel filled with amazing recreations of past classics:

We hope that CS1x owners and music fans will like this new idea :)"

Mike Mareen - Love Spy (1986) Instrumental Cover

video upload by KOSmusic

"I have been wanting to recreate this beautiful Euro-Disco music for a long time and I finally managed to make it come true!! I loved 'Love Spy' of 1986 ever since I heard it for the first time (along with other great Mike Mareen songs from the 80s like 'Agent Of Liberty' and 'Dancing in the Dark', but also the 70s). Check out his official channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGpnwyllnz10CAwVbWBku9g

As is often the case, for many songs/soundtracks there is no information available on what the composers used to create these music. It is not the first time that I have relied on intuition, experience and in particular my ear to try to understand with what and how to recreate all the sounds of this track. I worked hard on each sound to try and make my version as authentic as possible. In the end I was very happy with the final result and I hope you enjoy watching this video :)

You can hear the sound of the CS1x (preset 105_Jupiter) at minute 0:15 and at minute 0:48.

Unfortunately there is no official video of the 1986 song (there is only the one created for the version "Love Spy - Reloaded 2004"), but a user here on YouTube uploaded the video with the original track of "Love Spy" and the result is great!! A little curiosity: in the video you can see 2 fantastic synths... a Roland JP-8000 and a Yamaha CS6x."

Yazoo - Bring Your Love Down (Didn't I) Instrumental Cover

video upload by KOSmusic

"Recently, I listened again to the amazing Yazoo album 'Upstairs At Eric's' of 1982 . I was impressed with this particular track and wanted to recreate it (with a few small differences from the original), but trying to stay true to wonderful work of Vince Clarke.

The VSTs Jupiter-8 and Dexed proved very useful for several sounds. I used the CS1x for a part of the bass.

For shooting purposes, I changed the octaves of some instruments on my CS1x.

Hope you like how I recreated this classic :)"

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (1984) Instrumental Cover

video upload by KOSmusic

"This is my version of an unforgettable great classic from the mid 80s: Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat (of 1984).

I've always loved how this song starts with those pads and the DX7's signature harp... it always gave me goosebumps!! Furthermore, Sommerville's voice is truly fantastic with his unmistakable timbre.

I recreated the track by making some changes to the sounds and in particular to the management of the instruments, creating more stereo effect. I used the CS1x for brass, strings and synthesized trumpet. For the harp, I used the VST Dexed and the VST Jupiter-8 for the bass.

For the graphics of the video, I was inspired by the artwork of their first album 'The Age Of Consent'.

I hope you like the work I did on this track :)"

The Alan Parsons Project - Sirius (1982) Cover - KOSmusic Extended Version

video by KOSmusic

"Visit my website: https://kosmusicovers.altervista.org

This is my extended version of a great instrumental classic from the 80s: Sirius by The Alan Parsons Project.

The original version of this track is an introduction to the song "Eye in the Sky" and was also used as background music in the NBA for the entry into the field of the Chicago Bulls in the 90s at the time of the legendary Michael Jordan! Furthermore, here in Italy, it was used for the final scene of the movie 'Lui è Peggio di Me' of the 1985 with Adriano Celentano and Renato Pozzetto.

I have always found this music so suggestive and powerful with its strong guitar/piano hits and its unmistakable melody. When I finished the first part of this track, I thought it would be interesting to try to do an extended version. I have chosen to keep its original features, managing the various instruments in order to maintain the structure that we all know very well. I only added some little guitar riffs with delay to enrich the second part of the track in David Gilmour-style of the "Pink Floyd".

As for the main sound, I chose a preset from the CS1x (Clavi_008) because I really liked its bright sound and that's what suited my version best. The sound of the strings also comes from the CS1x (Octavia_104). Since the CS1x keyboard has only 61 keys, in order to play the lowest notes of the piano in the video, I had to lower my synth by 2 octaves.

I hope you like this version :)"

The Human League - Don't You Want Me (Instrumental Cover)

KOSmusic

"This is my instrumental cover of a magnificent 1980s classic by the English band The Human League: Don't You Want Me of 1981.

It was a bit of a complex track to recreate for the amount of synth sounds, but I have to say I had a lot of fun creating these typical early 80s synth sounds (many of them with the classic square wave).

To recreate this track and to make the video, I was inspired by the official video version: [below]

I used the CS1x sounds for many brasses of this song and tried to get as close as possible to the original with all the other sounds. There are some differences with the original track (you can hear them by listening to the separate left/right channels), especially with the more complex sounds to recreate (for example the rhythm synth on the right channel starting at 0:23). Moreover, I made the fade out of the track a little more gradual (lengthening it a few seconds longer than the original).

I hope you enjoy my tribute to this beautiful song :)"

Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version) Cover

KOSmusic

"This is my cover of one of John Carpenter's most famous horror themes: Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version).

I have always loved this music composed of piano sound and John Carpenter's unmistakable synths, that make it truly one of a kind and perfectly suited for a movie that has to keep in suspense!

To get as close as possible to the nuances of the original piano, I chose not to use the MIDI sequencer but to record it live to give it greater expressiveness, a slight irregularity (in particular at the beginning of the track where the piano increases the speed and then stabilizes) and realism.

I used the CS1x sounds for the synth sound that plays along with the piano (starting at minute 0:15) and the "saw" string sound which starts from minute 1:19."

Jan Hammer - Crockett's Theme (Miami Vice) Cover

KOSmusic

"This is my cover of one of the fabulous tracks created by Jan Hammer for the iconic 80s TV series 'Miami Vice': Crockett's Theme.

To recreate the sound of the guitar as close as possible to the original one, I created a virtual instrument (playing various notes/slides/palm muting/etc. of my Les Paul) and thanks to the synth I was able to play it giving it the electronic effect, and recreate all of them the small pitch bends characteristic of Jan Hammer's legendary guitar.

The bass line having been created with an arpeggio in random mode (on the Jupiter-8), in certain points of the track it can be a little different from the original.

Thanks to my wife's passion for sewing, we decided to try to recreate the 'Crockett' style t-shirt and blazer from scratch, with the fabrics we had available at home.

Special thanks to the Brogan brothers of 'Modeling' and John Wilburn for their incredible support!

It was really difficult to recreate the track and video of this classic (it took a few months and a lot of energy), but I hope you enjoy my tribute to this classic ;)

***Please note: my videos are not live performances, but are music videos, accompanying for the covers I create. The original graphics and music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I am just a fan and I recreate animations/graphics/tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these great timeless classics***"

Fletch (1985) - Unreleased Track - Fletch Arrives At The Stanwyk's Mansion (Cover)

Published on May 19, 2020 KOSmusic

On the Yamaha CS1x

"This is my cover of the track present in the movie 'Fletch' of 1985, in the scene when Fletch (Chevy Chase) arrives at Alan Stanwyk's mansion and discovers the cans of gasoline in the trunk of Stanwyk's car. As always, Harold Faltermeyer manages to create real works of art even with few synth sounds and some percussion!

The original track ends with an fade-out, but I preferred to create a 'Faltermeyer' style ending, thinking about how Harold himself could have finished it.

I want to thank Jeppe Jeppinen for having recommended this fantastic track!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY DEAR FRIEND!!!

In the future, I will also try to recreate the Fletch Theme and I think it will be really fun!!

I hope you like it ;)
