10 years of Verbos Electronics - Workshop at SchneidersLaden

video uploads by SchneidersLaden

Playlist:
10 years of Verbos Electronics - Mark Verbos - Workshop at SchneidersLaden
10 years of Verbos Electronics - Mark Smith - Workshop at SchneidersLaden
10 years of Verbos Electronics - Tom Holroyd - Workshop at SchneidersLaden

"Celebrating '10 years of Verbos Electronics' workshop at SchneidersLaden - what an evening! We have rarely had so many guests and such an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you!

It started with the three presentations by Mark, Tom and Mark on how to play live with a Verbos modular system and went on well into the evening with lots of nice conversations and exchanging of memories. What was different from ten years ago? The workshop took place on the rooms of SchneidersLaden, there was a kids' play area and some heads were slightly grayer than back a decade ago. So, quite some things changed, but it was wonderful to see that a new generation is growing up that shares the same passion."

AtoVproject DHO Workshop at SchneidersLaden

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"The workshop by AtoVproject about the DHO – Dual Harmonic Oscillator at SchneidersLaden. AtoVproject introduce their exciting new oscillator and play a performance so you can hear the module in a musical context.

Complex oscillators are renowned for their amazing sonic potential. The DHO uses the power of digital controls to improve accessibility and inspiration. Each analog oscillator generates four octaves of triangle waves and modulates each other using through-zero FM. All of this is channeled through a four-stage diode wavefolder.

For extremely complex modulation there is the power of simplex noise implemented in the DHO. This is an algorithm straight out of the video game industry. One twist of a knob allows you to dynamically modulate 10 parameters. You can explore infinite soundscapes and give life to the whole module with just one CV input. This fantastic noise source can also direct the frequencies of up to 10 internal LFOs, injecting motion and complexity into your sound without cluttering your rack with external modulation sources."

Nonlinear Labs C15 Workshop at SchneidersLaden

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"The Nonlinear Labs C15: The character of the C15 synthesizer stems from a puristic digital engine which produces a unique palette of sounds seamlessly spanning from organic and acoustic to experimental and electronic.

Nonlinear Labs was founded in 2011 by Stephan Schmitt. The company is dedicated to building advanced electronic instruments for performing musicians, focusing on playability, expressiveness, quality, and durability. The synth engine of the C15 is called Phase 22. The core structure is a phase modulation synth that is based on two sine oscillators and two sine shapers only. Their signals can be passed through a comb filter, a state-variable filter, and a chain of five effects.

The design process for Phase 22 aimed at building an expressively playable instrument that has a strong individual character. At the same time the set of parameters should be small enough to be easily accessible."

Vostok Instruments - Sena & Patching Panda - Punch MG

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Here is quick patch with the all new Punch MG by Patching Panda. As sound source we use all four outputs of Sena - the quad-VCO by Vostok Instruments patched into the four VCAs of Punch MG. Sena is tuned to a chord and transposed by a single CV. Throw some triggers at Punch MG and let the fun begin.

The four voices coming from Punch MG are mixed into a stereo signal that is processed by the Doepfer A-121s Stereo Multimode filter. This was quite fun to play! πŸ•ΊπŸŽ‰πŸ™Œ"

Touell Skouarn - Sil Kontrollet LowPass Filter

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Here are some impressions of the Touell Skouarn Sil Kontrollet LowPass Filter. This is the desktop version, the voltage controlled filter is also available for eurorack modular synthesizers. The filter is great for creating some serious and aggressive sounds. The desktop version is small and light and therefor perfect to add to any instrument that needs some more umpf."

"The Touellskouarn Sil Kontrollet is a powerful 12dB lowpass filter in desktop format.

Input and output, plus two controls for cutoff and resonance as well as a CV input for the filter cutoff frequency make you ready to rock with this little beauty that is definitely no table horn (we guarantee!). Aggressive smacking characterizes this desktop-unit, which produces a sine wave with V/oct tracking capability in the state of self-oscillation and follows its well-known sonic role model with a healthy dose of harshness. The module is powered via its 2.1mm negative jack, which is compatible with standard Ibanez and Boss power supplies."

Features:

12dB lowpass filter in OTA design
Large knobs for cutoff and resonance
Input/output
CV control for cutoff
Nichicon/Panasonic caps
Alpha-Potis
Compatible with standard Boss and Ibanez power supplies (not included)

GRP - A1

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Let's listen to the GRP Synthesizer A1 - a very small analog monosynth with a high-quality sound, MIDI, CV connectability – it can be used stand-alone in its very solid case, or mounted in a eurorack modular synth. It has a good size for jamming and a quality feel.

The sound is similar to the bigger GRP synths. The filter design has a lot of character and is capable of producing formant/vocal-like sounds and a liquid sounding resonance. The great sounding distortion parameter offers many more options for designing sounds. With its MIDI and CV/Gate inputs this is a synthesizer that fits in all studio or live-environments."

Metasonix - RK2 XS-VCA

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Here is a quick look at the Metasonix RK2 XS-VCA module - a tube-based VCA module with that Metasonix DNA. At gentle, soft settings the module is able to behave like a pretty normal VCA with some tube distortion but with rising gain the clipping distortion gets more and more. Turn up the Feedback and all hell is breaking loose. Sounds great right!"

"The ultimate vacuum tube VCA which can be more, for instance a pre-amp with 30dB gain, an amplifier for stereo and signal-cancelling effects and/or an extreme distortion effect. It can be gentle with a moderate bit of tube distortion but on the other hand it can tenderize a piece of meat with its raw power.

At gentle, soft settings the module is able to behave like a pretty normal VCA with some tube distortion but with rising gain the clipping distortion gets more and more. Turn up the Feedback and all hell is breaking loose.

In Metasonix' own words: 'What does it sound like? Imagine a slightly tubby tube amplifier, suddenly turning into a screaming chainsaw. And flying around the room to break your sappy bleeps and bloops. A bulldozer on fire crushing your nads. Strange tentacles of doom rise up from the bottom of the ocean and slap your sister's asscrack.'
Nothing to add."

Weston Precision Audio - AD110 Analog Drum Synthesizer

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Here is a quick look at the Weston Precision Audio AD110 - a six-voice analog drum module inspired by the famous Boss DR-110. It features single outputs for each drum voice and an additional mix output that reacts to the accent input. This is a simple to use module with a great sound and feel. You'll notice that it is possible to create "ghost notes" with combing long decay sounds with accents - very nice!"

"Weston Precision AD110 is a six-voice analog drum machine inspired by the famous Boss DR-110.

The Boss DR-110 is a sought-after vintage drum machine that resembles its more "famous" sister, the Roland TR-606, in many ways sonically, featuring an additional clap besides a different look/operation. Weston Audio have beefed up the DR-110, which is also often found modified, and expanded the functionality of the rather static original. Thus, the individual sounds can all be accessed separately and sonically modified. The clap was even given a reverb, while an accent input can be found at the mix-out.

Features:

Faithful recreation of all six DR-110 voices, output in Eurorack signal format.
Additional sound setting options that go far beyond those of the original: Kick: Pitch/Resonance, Snare: Pitch/Decay, Cymbal: Decay and Clap: Spread/Reverb.
Single outs + mix out with accent input"

Joranalogue - Workshop @SchneidersLaden

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"A few weeks ago SchneidersLaden welcomed Frits Jacobs from Joranalogue. Frits gave a workshop on the complete product line of Joranalogue, looking a bit into the future and talking about modules that are not yet available for purchase. Frits not only teaches what you can also find in the product description for the modules online, but also brings many great examples of patch ideas and applications. There is a lot to learn here!

The video of the workshop documents the visit at SchneidersLaden and hopefully gives a good insight into the design philosophy of Joranalogue. We would like to thank Joranalogue for visiting us in Berlin, Frits Jacobs for the great presentation, Estefania Huygen for recording the video and the initial editing and last but not least all our wonderful guests."

WLK-Audio - Inductive Filter Bank

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Some minutes with the Inductive Filter Bank from WLK-Audio: This device is for those of you who want to get a special sound-shaping tool for their studio - a high-quality and meticulously developed tool for sound design and fine-tuning work alike.

The filter bank is based on discrete coil technology and offers a very elegant overdrive behavior with that has a wonderful character and saturation. It is simply a pleasure to saturate any audio signal with the filter bank because the output signal never becomes obtrusive or annoying. The frequency specific distortion is a specialty of this unit. All in all it's a great tool for high-quality sound refinement, sound design, saturation and - if you want - the possibility to create a great vintage lo-fi sound."

"WLK-Audio – Inductive Filter Bank"

The Inductive Filter Bank from WLK-Audio, is for those of you who want to get a special classic into the studio - a high-quality and meticulously developed tool for sound design and fine-tuning work alike.

This filterbank is the mono version, of the Extended Range Fixed Filterbank from the same manufacturer. Both take their cues from SND's rare classic, the FB 14 Mono Filterbank, which is based on discrete coil technology. However, the WLK engineers have not simply copied, but thought ahead and now deliver us a filterbank with outstandingly clear sound and very elegant overdrive behavior which allows for overdriving without loss of character.

The carefully chosen frequency bands allow consistently good results, with which "musical" tweaks in your sounds are an easy task. These are at:

35Hz, 65Hz, 105Hz, 160Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz, 540Hz, 800Hz, 1.2KHz, 1.8KHz, 2.7KHz, 4KHz, 7KHz, 12KHz.

The hand-wound coils impress with the highest quality and are not only good for refining your sounds, but allow extreme, frequency-specific distortion without "squashing" the sound - instead clear and direct.

Compared to the FB 14, the WLK filter bank is a lot creamier in the treble range and a little less harsh overall.

It is worth trying the Inductive Filter Bank and convince yourself of the sound.

Weston Precision Audio - B2 Kick/Bass Voice & XAOC Devices - Koszalin

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"In this video we listen to two quite interesting modules, both in combination and separately. This is not a video manual or tutorial, just some sounds and patches with these two modules.

The Xaoc Devices Koszalin is a digital stereo frequency shifter with linear thru-0 and exponential FM - Xaoc Devices have once again managed to build a module on a digital basis, which delivers an incredibly precise and high-quality sound. Even if we push it to the limits more often in this video, the sonic quality shows in almost every situation.

The Weston Precision Audio B2 Kick/Bass Voice module describes itself virtually by its name. It features an oscillator, envelope, filter and VCA - in other words, everything you need for a monophonic, subtractive synthesizer - only here everything is designed to create kicks and bass. The versatile oscillator with waveshaper, the great sounding filter and the well thought-out user interface make working with the module a great delight."

Making Sound Machines Coming to Dutch Modular Fest

Dreamy Shuffle, Lush Pads: Stolperbeats and Digitone
video upload by Making Sound Machines

"We're off to Berlin - excited to be hosting a workshop at Schneidersladen, tonight at 7:30 pm.

We will be playing a short modular live set, spill the beans on our setup and share our deepest and darkest secrets about deliciously bad timing in #Eurorack. You're invited to swing by, and we look forward to hanging out and chatting afterwards. You will have to sign up via mail - info@schneidersladen.de

We recorded this dreamy little sketch during the search for our live set - a very simple setup using the Elektron Digitone as a sound module for its lush synth pads and slick drum tones, sequenced and shuffled by our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer via MIDI notes. The module in turn receives MIDI from the super portable OMX27 keyboard by Denki Oto (with backlit linear Cherry keys - love it!)

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is our drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by the gritty push-and-pull grooves from the golden age of Hiphop. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats is used here in its 'MIDI Rec' mode, originally envisioned as a quick way to map pitch, channel and velocity from drum machines onto the modules instrument channels by matching the selected instrument to the incoming MIDI data. Turns out this is really fun to use as a transpose with an external keyboard to provide shuffled melodies to the Elektron #Digitone.

If you are in the Netherlands, come see us at Dutch Modular Fest 2022 in Utrecht on Saturday Sept 3rd - we'll have a booth there next to the lovely This is Not Rocket Science (TiNRS) and Vaski, who will both show amazing new stuff."

GRP Synthesizer - A2

GRP Synthesizer - A2 from HerrSchneider on Vimeo.

Let's listen to the GRP Synthesizer A2 - a very versatile analog monosynth with a high-quality sound and a huge number of modulation possibilities - and this is no exaggeration: The frequency of the two oscillators and the filter cutoff each can be influenced by one of 11 different modulation signals.

The two oscillators feature 5 waveforms each, the first VCO offers additional PWM at two waveforms, the second VCO a parameter called "Shape" which fades in nine copies of the selected waveform for super-saw and super-triangle sounds. You get a Ring Mod, Noise, Sample & Hold, two LFOs, arpeggiator and more.

The filter design has a lot of character and is capable of producing formant/vocal-like sounds and a liquid sounding resonance. The great sounding distortion parameter offers many more options for designing sounds.

With its MIDI and CV/Gate inputs this is a synthesizer that fits in all studio or live-environments. It has a good size for jamming and a quality feel - and last but not least, the A2 is proving very popular among our staff - so maybe that means something.

Tasty Chips Electronics - ECR+

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"This video is a simple presentation of some of the sounds we came across while exploring the ECR+ by Tasty Chips Electronics. There is definitely much more to discover and we look forward to hearing your creations with the ECR+. We have one in our showroom, if you're in town, stop by and check it out.

Tasty Chips have been known for their GR-1 Granular Sampler for years. With their first Eurorack product they have brought something new to the table. Probably the first Stereo Convolution Reverb for Eurorack - the ECR+.

The module is more than just a plain reverb effect. One of the most distinctive features is the ability to load two impulse responses at once, between which you can then crossfade with a knob or by CV. The position of the impulse response, the stereo width and a few other parameters can also be controlled by CV to create even more interesting effects. This, plus the fact that you can load your own impulse responses into the module and even record on it, makes the ECR+ a great tool for sound design and unheard sounds."

Jessica Kert - live @SUPERBOOTH21

"Live Modular artist Jessica Kert discovered the Buchla200e system for herself during the lockdown. At her day job at SchneidersLaden, the noble device was always available after work and so a deeper understanding of the instrument developed over many hours of experimentation.

After some time, the point was reached to bring what she had learned to the stage - we are very happy that it was the Seaside-Stage at SUPERBOOTH21."
