EMS Synthi 100

And it's back on the bay. Previously posted here, however it looks like there are actually a couple of new shots. Title link takes you to all shots pulled via this auction. Some one buy this so I can see what my affiliate chunk on 60k would be. : ) I'll even let you know how much it was. BTW, if someone actually can afford to shell out 60k for this, umm... make sure to check it out first.

  3. I think they should atleast have removed the dust from the patchmatrix before they took the pics. If I wanted to sell something for 60K I would make sure it was presentable.

  4. Yup, make it presentable if you want real money for it. Though it's been proven time and time again that nobody's going to pay that price. Also, if anyone's interested, make sure it will fit through your door first.

  5. Though who knows with prices these days, remember that Maplin 5600 (kit synth) that was on here (and ebay) a couple of weeks back. Yes the one without a mains lead, well that went for
£1,227!!!!!! That makes this almost a snip .....

  6. Only seen a few of these monstrosities in pics, I love EMS' colors on the knobs, and those huge patch matrixes look overwhelming. How many of these were ever produced? Did they come with a keyboard, like shown? Were there options or add ons for these, what were they? Impressive, but 60k? I'd rather have a C6 Z06!!

  7. Info varies as to how many were built. I've heard numbers between 16 and 24 and it has been said that only 3 (known) instruments still work - one somewhere in germany, one in belgrade and the last one in the us somewhere - this could, however be bs, as noone seems to know for real

  8. Here's a fairly safe prediction: this auction will end again with no buyers, and we'll be seeing a similar post up here in a year's time. No hurry to move this bad boy from upstate New York, it seems.

However, it would be very interesting to know this Synthi's history. Where's it been, how'd it get there, etc. Also, anyone know if this is a private individual or an organization selling? Those room shots make it look like it's sitting at a public institution somewhere.

And to ps, those Maplins are mighty cool looking with all those pin patchpoints, but since they were originally kit synths, I've always steered clear of 'em.

  9. As for cost, there's a big window in the 4 figure $$$$ range where a whole lot of people are willing to "overpay" or should I say "pay top money" for something they desire. Then as you get into the above $10K range there are fewer people wanting to spend on anything, let alone pay a premium. It's quite well known that modules on several small vintage Buchlas or Moogs will get a much higher premium than a big one will on it's proportional contents. Big synths mean big negotiations... and this one doesn't come apart like several cabinets of Moog do.

  10. I seen to remember there being one in Hawaii for sale. It was advertised as being owned either Men Without Hats or their producer or other. Anyone remember that one? There's also this one: link.

  11. Well..This one has no CRO, the keyboard stand is missing and also the two panel trim segments are gone. There should be sliding doors on the lower cabinet. It's not really in 'pristine' condition. What's with the 'SL' sticker on the sequencer panel?.
It looks like they winched it out of a crackhouse.

  12. The Men Without Hats synth was an ARP 2500.
