"Finally I got myself to do a bass along video to the best Funk/Pop album from the 80's. I found it very difficult to do this one, as the arrangements and sounds are impossible to replicate. I also couldn't make up my mind which track to pick, so I did them all (well most of 'm)
If I were to be marooned on a deserted island and I was allowed to only bring one CD with me, Cupid & Psyche 85 would be the one. This album is unparalleled. The whole production is just incredible and every single track is brilliantly put together.
I don't know what these guys were thinking at the time, but I still have no clue how they got it to sound this tight, fat and dynamic. That combined with amazing songs and lyrics, this album will never bore.
I used Logic to construct the whole backing track, using vocal samples from re-mixes and Fairlight CMI samples from JJ Jeczalik's Art Of Sampling CD. Drums are Addictive Drums, both acoustic drums and Reel Machines. The Miles Davis trumpet comes from the Korg TR-Rack. Guitar sounds are all Logic. All the analog synth sounds are Prophet-5 and Jupiter-8.

Thanks to the internal stage sequencer it is possible to program the 3 bandpass filter for simple vocal formants sequences.
oversimple work, just tweaked the freqs... I could do better with bandwidth and amplitude tweaks... but whatever... it sounds fun :)
these are correct in italian.. I suppose that vowels in english have different formants...

Update: some more info: "The case was a Casio SA-20 keyboard I found at Goodwill. I modified the headphone/speaker circuit board to be louder/better sounding. Then I hand-soldered prototype boards to create the audio generating circuits of the TB-303. I used some different parts than the original, increased the resonance so it can self-oscillate, added an LFO to trigger the Gate and modulate the filter, and added a circuit to make the keyboard work."

Custom HR-16 FEATURES:
Circuit-Bending Interface: 20 point patch-bay allow you access to bendable ROM locations. Linking these points with patch cables will generate a wide range off effects, synth tones, new sounds, and unique sound-scapes. The HR-16 is particularly responsive to CB mods and has one of the widest ranges in sound for a circuit-bent drum machine. Patch-bay also has 3 points joined for mulit patching, and the entire patch-bay is backlight with multi-color flashing LEDs. Leds randomly blink and fade into just about every color in the spectrum.
Patchable Rotary Switch: Located on the main patch panel is a 12 position rotary switch with a patch location for base and each of the 12 positions. Patch locations can be routed through this switch then selected at will. Leaving a position blank will serve as off or bypass.Dual Oscillator: Audio Frequency oscillator and LFO Pitch is controlled by LED fader and output is wired to bending patch bay. When patched to particular locations this will generate tunable overtones and other unique sounds.
CLK/Master Pitch Control: Master pitch controls affects the pitch of all drum sounds but not the tempo of pattern of speed of other functions. Pitch ranges from well above to WAY below normal pitch, at low pitches you can get some really gritty bit-reduction sounds. Pitch is controlled with LED fader and features by-pass switch.
Low-Pass Filter: Unique sounding filter wit controls for cutoff, resonance, overdrive, and output level. 1/4" input and output are located on the back. Also features true-bypass switch. If you take adjantage of the HR multiple outputs you can process one or more drum sounds independently through the filter and not affect other drum voices."

"Nothing overly eclectic or wild but a good example of how my filter can make even something as basic sounding as the casio SA sound like a good synthesizer. These will be available on both ebay and via commission shortly.
The casio is fitted with several new mods of it's own which will be coming up in a video shortly. Having upgraded to pcb work for my modifications a new wave of highly modified machines are on their way.

Emu Emulator II digital / analog sampling synthesizer & SD Upgrade Kit
via this auction"This is a stellar sampler, adding a lot of punch and color to samples in contrast to modern digital hardware/software due to its lower sample rate, unusual signal processing and SSM analog filters. The Emulator II is one of the most iconic samplers ever, possibly the best-known sampling keyboard and has been featured on countless hit records.
This auction also includes a second 5.25" DS/DD disk drive, bringing the total number of disk drives to 3. Disks for booting into OS 3.1 are included as are a bunch of new-old-stock DS/DD 3.5" floppies so you can start sampling as soon as it arrives! I formatted and tested a couple disks today (Feb 13th) and they work perfectly. Also included are a folder of old 5.25" sound floppies that would require updating to use when the Emulator is booted into OS 3.1; to do so, you need one of the 5.25" drives installed into the drive 2/bottom slot.

"I made my first complete DIY synthesizer in 1997 when I was a student. I had only just been introduced to the internet so the few things I knew about synthesizers came from old books at the local library - you know, the building with books in it. And I combined that with knowledge I had gained from fixing my then only "real" synthesizer - the Roland SH-2000. I also had some electronic books from engineering school. But they didn't contain information on how to build a synthesizer.
I decided that it was time to improve the design a little. There are some flaws that I couldn't avoid when I made it because I didn't knew then what I know now. But at the same time I want to keep it as it is - you could call it sentimental value.
So I found a compromise where I keep most of the original design but improve the things that annoys me.
The music in this video is something I made in 1998. I used the Roland SH-2000 synthesizer, and CR-1000 drum machine, Bontempi KS-3400, Kawai MS-20, Yamaha PSS-12, and Casio SA-1 toy keyboards. The bass was played on a Casio SA-3 through a Boss OC-2 octaver pedal."

The unit has many elements such as: Draw-bars for the Hammond sound, patches for Strings, Brass, Trombone, Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute, Choir, Accordion, Church organ, Piano, Vibes, Guitar, Banjo, Harpsichord, Violin, etc. It also has a rhythm section. I received this unit as part of a Hammond Commodore 300 (for sale separately in a concurrent auction) which it had been custom cabled to in order to utilize it (the organ does not have native MIDI capability). It has a "DMS" sound for those familiar. It comes with a RAM cartridge, power cord and original manual."
