"For your consideration is this vintage 1979 360 Systems Spectre guitar synthesizer. This particular example is in very excellent original condition and was recently serviced to be completely studio ready. The Spectre guitar synth features the Oberheim 1180 "A" board which is the same board found in Oberheim's SEM synth module. This synth also features two analog oscillators, a single ADR filter, and an LFO. Producing incredibly rich fuzz, string sounds, octaves, envelope filtering, polyphony, phaser/flanger effects, etc., this unit makes the magic of Oberheim's SEM, also found within the TVS-1 2-voice, accessible to guitarists, other electrified stringed instruments, or even addition synths. A must have for the analog synth collector, inventive guitar players, and studios with an emphasis on vintage analog equipment, this is a really incredible piece."

"We fully serviced this unit a few years ago and used it occasionally since then. The 360 Systems Spectre is an Oberheim SEM (synthesizer expander module) with a built in guitar interface. The SEM is legendary for its excellent tone, thanks in great part to its sweet multimode filter. We got this unit without a guitar pickup, so it hasn’t been tested with a guitar. We had our tech rewire the transpose A and B jacks so they’re now CV and gate inputs so this unit can be controlled with a Roland or similar type 1 volt per octave synth with CV and gate outputs. Since we don’t have a pickup to test this unit with, we don’t know if the guitar interface section is working, so although we have no reason to believe it’s not working, we cannot guarantee it and are therefore selling it as is. 1 of the latches that holds the case closed is missing but the case still closes ok. There's a new fuse-holder too."

"360 Systems Spectre Guitar Synthesizer circa 1978. Unit in original tolex case, no manual what you see is what you get. Unit was modified to respond to CV/Gate inputs. I did not preform this mod so I cannot answer any questions other than it does respond to standard 1 V per octave CV and gate from an Arp Sequencer. This is essentailly an Oberheim SEM in a portable tolex case minus one envelope gen, you might be able to mod it and add the second envelope as the boards are original Oberheim SEM 'A'." 360 Systems SEMs?

Title link takes you to a post on sequencer.de which alludes to this 360 Systems Spectre module as being an Oberheim SEM in disguise. If you know anything about this unit, feel free to comment.

Update via retrosynth in the comments:
"It's an SEM along with some really poor pitch to CV tracking and an envelope follower thrown in. There's normally a cable for a hex pickup on the far left but on this unit the cable had been cut. This unit had the CV/gate output jacks switched to CV/gate inputs. Unfortunately the amplitude envelope is modified for input from the envelope follower so it only has an attack control, no decay or sustain. It could easily be fixed though. Pictures of the internals here.

"I worked there.
It tracked even worse than you say.
It was the SEM module. They had a deal with Oberheim to buy and use them.

They didn't have much for gear archives but they did have the very rare 6 SEM guitar synth there too. It was 6 separate SEM modules with 6 of the pitch glitchers as I called them.

They also made a programable parametric EQ that is very rare. The 360 frequency shifter is a rare one too."

"This is an Oberheim SEM on the inside, originally marketed by 360 systems for the guitar market. This one was MODIFIED for CV Gate control (it’s not set up for use with guitar).

This unit was meticulously serviced over 10 hours to work like new again, no typical lies or excuses, making this unit better and more valuable than others you may find. Power supply recapped. Molex connector terminals replaced. VCO VCF VCA recalibrated. All pots and switches properly cleaned and lubed. Modified (see below). Audio input added. Cleaned inside and out.

Note: The latches that hold the lid in place are broken and we didn't have a source for replacements.

This 360 Systems Guitar Synth came to us without a guitar pickup (they're usually broken, when they're present), so we had our tech modify it for use with CV and gate from any compatible CV gate devices (including most if not all available midi to CV converters). He also modified it so there's full control over the VCA envelope generator, adding 2 potentiometers for the 2 envelope control that are missing from the stock Spectre in the place of 2 1/4" jacks that aren't needed when using it without a guitar. Since this unit's not set up for use with a guitar, the left side controls have no effect (string related stuff, octave select and transpose settings). We also need to make it clear that since we couldn't test the guitar related stuff, we have no idea whether the guitar section would work if you had a pickup, so are selling this unit strictly as is. If you plan on trying to use it with a guitar and pickup, please realize this. All other controls for the synth section are working perfectly and play beautifully via the CV and gate jacks."

"The Spectre is a self contained guitar synthesizer with circuitry that allows a guitar to control the Oberheim SEM inside. The guitar pickup for this one has long since disappeared, so I had the SEM patched out to use it as a desktop monosynth.

The patch points are: AUDIO OUT, AUDIO IN (through filter), LFO RESET (trig in), OSC CV IN, GATE IN, OSC 2 OUT, OSC1 CV IN, OSC2 CV IN, VCF CV IN. The patch points give you semi-modular control over the vintage SEM. It sounds fantastic. It is much rawer sounding than the new SEM."
