A consultant on computer music for Yamaha International, Bell Telephone Laboratories, and Bell Communications Research, Slepian's technical articles have been published by the National Radio Institute and industry bible/magazine Electronic Musician. Appearing to effortlessly merge synthesizer technology with elegant classical stylings now for nearly four decades, Slepian's body of work has been described by The Newark Star Ledger as "...a dazzling smorgasbord of computer sonorities, all of them fascinating, some of them achingly beautiful...undisputably a master of his medium."

electro-music 2009

The electro-music festival, known as the "Woodstock of electronic music," is the world's premiere event for experimental electronic music. This year's event features three mind-bending days of innovative electronic music concerts, seminars, workshops, demonstrations, jam sessions, video art, a laptop battle, and a swap-meet. Action starts at 12 noon on Thursday, October 29 and runs until after midnight on October 31. Musical activities will be running continuously throughout the three days of the festival.

electro-music 2009 takes place at the Star Lake Camp in Bloomingdale, New Jersey. This year, on-site lodging and meals are available. Tickets range from $22 for a single day to $220 for a 3-day pass including meals and lodging. Tickets that include food or lodging must be reserved by October 15.

While Kawai is known more for their acoustic pianos, this instrument is one of their first forays into the electronic music instrument realm. We are looking at the Kawai Synthesizer-100F from 1977. This single VCO instrument is very well equipped, packs a punch and is capable of great sounds for live performance. "This little gem has to be one of our favorite purpose-built performance synths here at EMEAPP. It is the KORG Synthe-Bass SB-100, first released in 1975. Ideal for live performance, the SB-100 is a single oscillator bass synthesizer monster which offers an extremely powerful low pass filter "traveler" as well as a plethora of wave forms and modifiers to choose from to create monstrously fat and punchy bass tones. "Another rarity from the halls of EMEAPP, here we have the ultra-rare RSF Blackbox from the late 70s. While it doesn't look like much on the outside, it is capable of a pretty amazing task: it can turn a monosynth into a polysynth by using it's CV/gate output. Intended as a peripheral device for the RSF Kobol monosynth, the Blackbox is compatible with a plethora of other vintage monosynths. In this video, electronic music pioneer Don Slepian will demonstrate the Blackbox's capabilities as a stand-alone instrument.
