"A COMPILATION OF WIGGLERS’ GRAPHICAL NOTATIONS FOR THE BUCHLA SYNTHESIZER

Some months ago I’ve asked to the fellow Buchla musicians of the MuffWigglers website to partecipate to a collective experiment on music notation for the Buchla synthesizer. In the world of modular synthesizers music we often see free improvisations, sketches, etudes, but very rarely “composed” music with notation.

This experiment was an attempt to involve nowadays modular musicians in the field of composition by means of graphical notation.

The result is finally here. Signs is not only an amazing collection of mind blowing music, it is also the proof that notation in electronic music is alive and kicking and indeed deserve further explorations.

I am proud and happy to present you this amazing collective work. I hope you will enjoy it.

The Roton

"Taking inspiration from Cornelius Cardew’s Treatise, the Roton is a graphical score for any number of performes and electronic instruments and devices.

The score is a kit made of 23 (for now) circle shaped trasparent plastic sheets that the performer can group and arrange in every way he/she wants."

He holds a myth-vs reality rap session with vblack inner-city youth at a rec center, threatening "to chain you up and take you with me, like they did you in Africa" if they resist his plea to go to outer space. He duels at cards with The Overseer, a satanic overlord, with the fate of the black race at stake. Ra wins the right to a world concert, which features great performance footage of the Arkestra. Agents sent by the Overseer attempt to assassinate Ra, but he vanishes, rescues his people, and departs in his spaceship from the exploding planet Earth."

You might remember Berna from Greetchplug in this prior post.

Atomic Shadow wrote in to let me know he has recorded an album primarily featuring Greetchplug's Berna: "The project Berna album by Atomic Shadow is complete. All twelve tracks were done with Berna software by Gleetchplug. Most of the tracks were done in real time as semi-improvisations with only the field recordings used in the virtual tape recordings prepped beforehand. Track #3 had on overdub of Wine Glasses from Mtron Pro by GForce Software and track #12 had an overdub of the faux theremin from a Kaos Pad 2.
