Navs' Modular Lab

via Navs:
"just wanted to give you the heads up: there's two new sets of tests at Navs' Modular Lab.

Doepfer + Bananalogue Wave Multipliers - from inverse filtering and easy FM to outright destruction, go forth and multiply!

Swayed by Cwejman - VCA-2P, VCO-2RM + MMF-1. Modular basics from the Rolls Royce of Eurorack.

While you're there, be sure to check out Navs' Patch of the Day - diary of a week of wiring.

It's the Envelope, Stupid! - Navs' Modular Lab Easter EG Hunt

"time for another Modular Lab test:
Common wisdom has it that the most important module for shaping your sound is the filter. I beg to differ: it's the envelope, stupid!

On the bench: Doepfer's A-140 ADSR, A-142 Decay/ Gate, A-143-1 Complex EG/ LFO & Cwejman's ADSR-VC2.

Enjoy the test and happy hunting!

Navs Patch of the Day - The Polyphonic Modular

"A quick demo of the Kenton Pro 2000 MkII's polyphonic mode.

The most obvious application would be to play chords, but why stop there? The beauty of the modular environment is that you can assign different waveforms, filters and envelope settings to each voice.

In today's patch I used 3 VCOs (panned hard left/ right and centre), a similar number of EGs, VCFs & VCAs and a touch of random modulation to add some movement to what would otherwise be a fairly static riff. The Kenton is in 'Regular Cycle' mode, which means it passes each new note on to the next VCO in the chain."

You can find the patch on navs.modular.lab.

Harvestman Polivoks VCF Demo via Navs

via Navs:

"I've added a demo of the Harvestman Polivoks VCF to the Patch of the Day thread at the Canecutters' forum.

Two minutes of manual frequency FM with the Polivoks being modulated by a Plan B Model 15 VCO. Very Metal.

Expect a full review in the Modular Lab soon.

Cheers,

Navs 4MS VCAM & PEG Demo

via Navs

"I got a chance to play with the prototypes of the 4MS VCA Matrix & Pingable Envelope Generator this past week while Dann & Jeannot were visiting Berlin...

The VCAM works as you'd expect: it's a matrix mixer with the added benefit of SSM VCAs & mutes, capable of processing both CVs & audio. The LED mute buttons, in particular, would be useful in performance.

The PEG offers tempo-sync'd envelopes/ LFOs with control over multiplication or division of the envelope time, contour shaping tools and various trigger outs. With a little feedback and when run at audio-rates it can produce chaotic results."

Check out navs.modular.lab for more.

Plan B Model 23 Analog Shift Register

PotD - The Organ Grinder by navs

"In this patch the M23 was used to shift a quantized sequence to a pair of detuned VCOs, the 'both' input of a Bananalogue/ Serge VCS and the CV input of a VC-LFO. The sequence was transposed by the stepped output of a Wogglebug. A sequential switch was used to alternate between a 'regular' and voltage controlled clock. The switch was triggered by a comparator reading the output of a second random source."
