Oberheim Matrix-12 sample pack for TAL-sampler

video upload by Espen Kraft

"My best patches for the Oberheim Matrix-12 in the TAL sampler format.
Superb sounding sounds. 54 patches with Brass, Bass, Strings, Pads, Leads etc.
Many of them stereo samples, spread out over 6 different key groups.
Lush, powerful and very usable.

Find the pack here:
https://thepatchbay.io/product/tal-sa...
https://sound7.co.uk/products/the-dig...

If you want to buy several packs in one go, please contact me directly as I can give you a nice bundled price.

The purpose of using the TAL sampler VST is to get that old school sampler sound, without investing in 80s hardware. The TAL sampler is the best software on the market to do just that.
This pack also contains all the multi samples for all the sounds, in a Wav-format, so you can use these in other applications if you want to as well. The Wav-samples cannot be used to create your own sample packs for sale. The TAL-sampler VST is not included in the pack."

How to use an Intel PC stick as a standalone VST host / VST player / synthesizer

Published on Apr 28, 2020 Floyd Steinberg

"How to use an Intel PC stick as a standalone VST host / VST player /synthesizer. Table of contents below! Intel PC sticks are USB-stick-sized X86 PCs running Windows Home Edition. In this video, I'm installing a DAW and some popular VST plugins on one of them, seeing if there's enough performance to create a track with multiple virtual instruments. Also: using this as a monitor-less device booting your favourite software synth or plugin, playable with an external MIDI controller.

VST TAL-Vocoder

"TAL-Vocoder is a vintage vocoder emulation with 11 bands that emulates the sound of vocoders from the early 80’s. It includes analog modeled components in combination with digital algorithms such as the SFFT (Short-Time Fast Fourier Transform).
This vocoder does not make a direct convolution of the carrier and modulation signal as other digital vocoders maybe do. It includes an envelope follower for every of the eleven bands. This vocoder is optimized for voice processing and includes some algorithms for consonants to make the voice more intelligible.
The carrier signal is a VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) with a Pulse, Saw, Noise and SubOsc. But it’s also possible to use the left stereo input as carrier. This way every sound source can be used as carrier signal. This plug-in supports every sample rate."

You can listen to a sample and download it for free on the TAL site. You might remember TAL from these prior posts on their Juno-60 and SH-101 emulations.

OB-Xd 2.0 is a free update for 1.x customers and can be downloaded at Members Area. More information is available at OB-Xd page.

"While not copying originals, some of the features were taken to a better point. Continuous blendable multimode filter (HP-Notch(BP)-HP in 12 dB mode and 4-1 pole in 24 dB mode). 32 and 64 bit versions included.

OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways a number of things were added or altered to the original design.

The OB-Xd was designed to sound as good and as rich as the original. It implements micro random detuning which is a big part of that sound. However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.

Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc."

Ableton Push 2, Roland TR-8, TAL Bassline and Reaktor Juno-6 demo by Jordan Passmore.

Published on Feb 18, 2016 Jordan Passmore

"This demo is of the Ableton Push 2 and Roland TR-8 hardware units, as well the Ableton Live DAW, hosting the following VSTs:

TAL-BassLine - A VST softsynth that is doing the bassline.
Native Instruments Reaktor 5 w/ Juno-6 Ensemble - A modular VST softsynth that is loaded with a Roland Juno-6 ensemble that is doing the melody sequence.
Valhalla DSP UberMod - A delay effect VST that the melody is being ran through.

Ableton Live is sequencing the two VST synths and sending MIDI clock (via USB) to the Roland TR-8. The TR-8 is sequenced via it's own built-in step sequencer. All of the instruments are being ran through my Ace Tone MP-40 mixer and then recorded via my audio interface.

The TR-8 is using the TR-808 kit and all of the drums are of the 808 variety (909 demo will be coming up soon). The kick drum is hitting the mixer hard, creating a subtle distortion that I find quite nice; getting something smooth or subtle is very possible when not overloading the mixer."

Mr Woofer - Synth Demos

Published on Oct 6, 2017 Mr Woofer

Playlist:

1. Mr Woofer - Enter Space (Atari STE Demo)
"Enter Space!" says Sinclair Spectrum ZX through its Currah uSpeech synthesizer. The Atari STE and its Yamaha YM2149F chip in all its square wave glory does exactly that. The tools used to control the STE are NSQ (Near Synthesizer Quality), Chip Synth and MaxYMiser.

The powerful beats are coming from NI Massive except for the Hi-hats and noise bursts which are also Atari STE. As usual external reverb and delay are added. Hope you enjoy it!

Outrun soundtrack on Yamaha DX7 DEXED VST

Published on Sep 30, 2017 Woody Piano Shack

"Outrun soundtrack Passing Breeze as you've never heard it before! Remixed using Dexed VST plugin emulating the sound of the legendary 1983 Yamaha DX7 FM synthesizer.

The original arcade hardware also used a primitive form of Yamaha FM synthesis so this version has similar sounds but in much higher fidelity.

So enjoy once again the sound of the Yamaha DX7 electric piano and bass patches, put through a touch of TAL Chorus (an emulation of the Roland Juno-6 analog chorus).

Sega Out Run (アウトラン Auto Ran) arcade music was provided by Hiroshi Kawaguchi, who had previously composed soundtracks for other games designed by Suzuki, and who was part of Sega's official band at the time, the S.S.T. Band. Out Run was the first video arcade game that allowed the user to choose the background music. The soundtrack comprised both jazz music (similar in style to that of fusion band Casiopea) and Latin/Caribbean music (similar to Miami Sound Machine). In all, three selectable tracks were featured: Passing Breeze, Splash Wave and Magical Sound Shower. An additional track, Last Wave, played at the final score screen.

Here is some information about the sound chips used in the original arcade hardware, as you can see FM synthesis is used here too.

Sound CPU: Zilog Z80 @ 4 MHz (8/16‑bit instructions, 0.58 MIPS)
Sound chips: 2 chips, 24 channels, 24‑bit bus width
- FM synthesis chip: Yamaha YM2151 @ 4 MHz (8 FM channels, 8‑bit bus width)
- PCM sampling chip: SegaPCM 315‑5218 Sound Controller @ 4/16 MHz (stereo)"

Canon 50D Magic Lantern - Winter Synth Composition

Published on Mar 1, 2018 Synth & Sundry

"A excerpt from a composition demonstrating sounds from the reFX Nexus 2 VST and the the TAL-U-NO LX VST (Juno 60 emulator). Using Ableton Live and the Alesis Q61 keyboard.

The video was shot on a Canon 50D with Magic Lantern Raw, filming in London during the wintry day of 27th February 2018.

Mostly shot in 5x zoom crop mode, 14 bit raw at 1920x1080 resolution. Some shots use full sensor mode (1568x882 resolution).

I used a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 lens, which unfortunately has a broken aperture but is still usable."
