"WMD Geiger Counter Eurorack Module
-Incredible Digital Destruction
-150 Different Wavetables
-3 Different CV Controls
-Great Distortion Stage
-Bypass the Gain Stage with Direct Input

Now for your modular synth!

The WMD Geiger Counter is hundreds of entirely new face melting sounds. A high gain modern preamp drives an 8 bit computer, creating sounds which range from nice (tubey overdrive, lofi aliasing, hot gated leads) to total madness (impossible amounts of gain, multiple octave foldover, harsh digital data errors, and piercing sculpted noise).

Geiger Counter Eurorack Module - Brief Overview

YouTube via signalflowonline
"This is a demo video of the WMD Devices 'Geiger Counter' Eurorack module. In it I run a Nintendo DS with a Korg DS-10 cart into a Doepfer A-119 Envelope Follower module, followed by the Geiger Counter. First I give a brief, shoddy description of the 'Counter, then show the unaffected sound of the DS and begin to play with the Geiger Counter affecting the DS.

This video focuses on the Wavetable feature of the Geiger Counter. Subsequent videos focusing on the Sample Rate, Bit Depth and Wavetable (with an emphasis on CV modulation) are tentatively planned."

"The Controls:

The Geiger Counter may seem overwhelming, but once broken down, the controls are quite logical.

Gain:

Low settings provide clean tones with no distortion at all, while high settings will brickwall your signal for great sustain. Use the Gain control as a coarse setting for getting the desired tone from the selected wave table.

Tone:

The Geiger Counter's tone control blends muffled low-mids with chimey and clear upper mids and highs providing a very large range of sounds in junction with the Gain. All the way down and the sound is muffled and grungy with little upper harmonic content. The middle range is smooth and full bodied. The top range cuts the lows completely for only upper harmonic content. Use the Tone to fine tune the sound of the wave table.

Tone Enable/Disable:

This switch removes the tone control from the preamp circuit. The tone control sucks some volume from the gain, and this allows the pure ultra hot signal to go directly into the Wave Table. If a very clean tone is desired, set to Disable and adjust the gain to get the right amount of breakup. For most wave tables, disabling the Tone will produce completely different sounds by brickwalling to the extremes of the tables faster.

Direct In/Level:

The direct input allows a signal to be injected directly to the Geiger Counter's digital heart and bypassing the preamps coloration.

Sample Rate:

Controls the length of the samples your signal is converted into. Full up and the Geiger Counter samples faster than a CD. Dial it down a little and you'll lower the fidelity and frequency response, adding overtones and difference frequencies. Down a little produces some very nice chimey clean tones. Down more and higher notes disappear into difference frequencies, all the way down to 280Hz. The sample rate is sort of like a flange whammy.

When the LED is Red, the Sample Rate is in fine mode where the range is limited to the upper end.
The CV input and attenuator are only active when a cable is plugged into the CV jack. When CV controlled, the Sample Rate knob selects the center frequency about which the CV signal moves. When the LED is Green, the Sample Rate knob is logically ANDed with the CV signal, producing some interesting sounds as the CV changes.

Bit Depth:

This controls the finer details of the signal. All up and your signal is represented by the full 8 bits. Each step down cuts the resolution in half, adding quantization error distortion, all the way down to 1 bit making a nasty square wave from a once clean tone. This produces a lo-fi gated distortion sound.

The LED when Green engages Mask mode where your signal is logically ANDed to the 8 bit number produced by the Bit Depth knob. This produces uneven gaps in your signal for some interesting distortion sounds.

The Bit Depth CV and level control is only active when a cable is plugged into the Bit Depth CV input. The Bit Depth knob then controls the center frequency. However, unlike the Sample Rate control, the bit depth can wrap around the edges of the control if the CV signal is larger than the range allows for.

Wave Table:

This knob and display select the wave table to run your signal through. The wave table stage takes your signal and destroys it with math. This produces some incredible sounds. The wave tables are organized so that a more extreme version is typically found one up from the current one.

There are 252 wave tables in all, each with different harmonic content.

The display is in HEX, displaying the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F. Don't be alarmed, it actually makes remembering your desired wave table easier! The wave table is remembered when the pedal is turned off.

The Wave Table CV input is similar to the Bit Depth's.

The CV signal is only active when a cable is plugged in.

The Wave Table will wrap around the end points 00 and FB.

The center is set by the WaveTable knob."

WMD Geiger Counter Eurorack Module -Sequencing Wavetables

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"The WMD Geiger Counter in eurorack has finally arrived! This is a simple squarewave drone from a Cwejman VCO-6. We are sequencing the wavetables of the Geiger with an Analogue Systems rs200. Partway through we add in another sequencer row modulating the sample rate which has an attenuator. Awesome!"

Solvent modular crunch MFB Seq-02 + WMD Geiger Counter

YouTube Uploaded by s0LVentCIty on Jun 14, 2011

"Hello my name is Solvent, and I just made this crunchy IDM Hip Hop beat on my Eurorack modular.

Everything is being sequenced by the MFB Seq-02, which is being clocked from a trigger coming out of Logic/Silent Way/ES-3. I locked it to Logic so that it'll be easier to chop up into loops later, if I decide to develop this track further.

Outside of the modular, I've got the kick from my Jomox MBase-01, and the snare is from my modified Boss DR-55. The occasional analog delay is from my Boss DM-100. The white noise in the HH sound is coming from my MS-20 since I don't have a noise source module yet.

More than half of the modules in my case are being used here, so I'll just point out the ones that are contributing most prominently to the sound:
- the glitchy Autechre-ish part in the HH comes from the Flight of Harmony Sound of Shadows digital delay module, with it's delay time being sequenced by the MFB
- VCO is Tip Top Audio Z3000
- VCO goes into the Bubblesound Sem20 VCF, before being destroyed by the WMD Geiger Counter Wave Table distortion / bit reduction module. The Sem20 actually plays a big part in the sound, as the WMD responds drastically to LP vs HP, and to Resonance amount.
- Geiger's wavetable is changing via a VC input, sequenced by the MFB.
- Post Geiger filter is an EMS Synthi VCF clone, DIY'd by a guy named Cameron from Chicago, which is similar to the STG's Sea Devil Filter module. Filter Cutoff is being modulated by the MFB.
- Synthwerks MG-1 module is being used to trigger the MFB's reset in, which I'm using to create manual fills, which remain perfectly in time on account of the MFB being clocked externally."

Thanks WMD! | A tribute to Alex & William from WMDevices

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I was a bit shocked by the sad news of #WMD closing shop by the end of 2022. I did not see that one coming. This may also be because I've been putting my head in the sand for three years, trying to stay away from a world going into a second 'roaring 20's' with a super flu, dropping economies and war on EU soil. Nobody f*cking asked for this. I've seen a lot of posts posing questions like 'is eurorack dying out?'. Sure, some brands will not make it, but new brands will start fresh without relying on parts that are not available. I guess we'll see a more fully analog modules in a near future.

As for WMD, I love every single module they make/made. They're top quality modules, aimed at the performer. Even if you don't perform live, you can do a great show in your basement, attic or living room. So get your smartphone out and make/post a little tribute to make sure WMD knows we love them. Finally, I have blind faith WMD will be back one day. Maybe under a different name, but artistry, expertise and quality never closes shop. Just make sure you get the latest firmwares and manuals for your gear, and get your WMD bucket list cleared. When they sell out, they will be sold out forever. I got a DB25 expander, Geiger Counter & Axxent expander this week and trying to figure out which VCO I'd get to complete my collection."

WMD TEST LAB - Generative Music with WMD METRON and CRUCIBLE

Published on May 3, 2019 WMDevices

"This is a little jam using METRON as a random trigger generator for the rest of this small 6U eurorack system to create some generative, ambient, spacey sounds.

Crucible is being used as a resonator for the WMD Fracture module. The melodic lines are created with two WMD/SSF Spectrum oscillator modules, with occasional FM from one to the other. The Modbox' Sample and Hold output is choosing waveforms on the geiger counter as well controling the VCA that is in control of the FM and crossmod for the Spectrums."

Thy Weapon Cometh

YouTube Published on Jul 16, 2012 by JohnLRice

"Once again, I started testing a new module and was having too much FUN to worry about doing a proper demo! ;-) This time it was a prototype of the new Synth Tech E440 voltage controlled low pass filter. It sounds awesome and I'm sure it will become the go-to weapon-of-choice filter in many people's eurorack modulars!!!

The E440 is used for the fat bass sound and is also multed through a WMD Geiger Counter module for the distorted doubling. (The nasal wailing distorted parts are from a Kazooka run into the mixer with a Digitech harmonizer on the insert.)"
