The Flying Machine and The Time Warp Sound Clash System

Title link takes you to a Google translated version of shimomura-onkyo. The Flying machine appears to be an all analog modular effects unit. The original comes with analog delay, an LFO and filter. You can then snap in additional modules listed on this page. If anyone knows what these modules do, please feel free to comment. via ben shannon illustrator.

Also check out the Time Warp Sound Clash System while there. From what I could make of it, it's a stone from the archipelago housed in this box. It makes a sound every 1 in a 1000 times. : ) File this one under Sand Dunes, Nature Dioramas, and Saturn.

"The strange stone that was celebrated western calendar 1003, with the island which has the [arimantado] archipelago it puts out 1 time sound in 1000. As for the timbre of that stone there was a reporting that also making the heart of the people dance can also make be softened. And that when just puts out 1 time sound in 1000, incident occurred. The hoodlums who come from the direction east took that stone from the inhabitant, carried back to your own country. But after that, no one those which know the news of that stone as for was .......
These 2 human groups which are pulling before the man where the heart that is easy it exceeds the time and it has the stone which puts out day and the sound which have 2003, appeared. With the [motemote] being wild with [avuangiyarudo], these 2 human groups which are pulling to invent the device which works the timbre of that stone skillfully, being the cheerful and being sexy with the honest person whose generosity is good these 2 human groups which are pulling turned in the country with that device and made the heart of the people my [zu] biting. And now that device is placed in here, (it continues). Sound of 1 times, please enjoy in 1000. Pushing patience. Killer."

Catgirl Synth - Modular DIY

Title link takes you to Ken Stone's Modular Synthesizer site.

"It is a collection of notes, circuit diagrams and stories about the creation of my modular synthesizer, the "Catgirl Synth" as it has been dubbed by others. This synthesizer is mostly analog, and is based on the 1 volt per octave standards set by Moog."

Two Roland SH-3's on the *bay

Update: Via this Sound and Sound article.

"Not everything was plain sailing, and it appears that Kakehashi infringed one of Bob Moog's filter patents when he designed the SH3. So a new version appeared in 1974. Externally, the SH3A was almost identical to the SH3, but it sported a new VCF and VCA, and it was this model that Vangelis and a handful of other famous keyboard players adopted in the mid-1970s."

Also, the SH3 was originally released ast the ACE Tone SH3, not the Roland SH3:

"Then there was Japan's first synthesizer, the SH1000 (see the box on the previous page) and its more powerful sibling, the SH3, which appeared as both the Roland SH3 and the Ace Tone SH3, and remains highly sought-after to this day."

Update: In via the comments. Thanks Shoontz!

"The Sh-3 is worth WAY, WAY more. Some have even gone for around $10,000.

The SH-3 was the original model, but it plagiarised Moog's 4-Pole filter design. After a lawsuit it's production was halted, so only a few were ever made, (some say around 100, others say less). It's supposed to sound much nicer than the 3A too. "

Link to auction. Title link takes you to Sonic State's page on the SH-3a. Two things stand out with the SH-3a. One, it was Roland's first programmable, non preset mono synth. It came out in 1974, the year after Roland's first synth, the SH-1000 (see this post for a Roland timeline). And two, it had a form of analog additive synthesis in which you used sliders to adjust stages of the different analog waveforms. Click through title link for more. Thanks goes to Ben Shannon Illustrator who sent this my way.

Two shots pulled form the auction.

Elektron Poster Art via ben (shoontz) shannon Illustrator

via the man that brought us this awesome post. Don't miss the rest of Ben's art on http://www.shoontz.com.

On the top two posters:
"The lady in the lake one was likening the Monomachine to Excalibur, the 2001 poster kind of speaks for itself, and the girl riding the Monomachine was half my idea and half Daniel's request (I actually cried when I heard he died) [For those that do not know, Daniel Hansson was the man behind Elektron and passed away at the young age of 32 on August 19th of 2007].

Each of the samurai represents a sound engine, and that the woman is the FX section/Monomachine itself, (the only thing powerful enough to command them). A futuristic master for classic power.

I've actually got a picture that Zombi Nation sent me of the posters hanging in his studio too! I wish I could share it, but it might be a violation of our friendship."
