Mitchell Sigman - Celebutante and Berlin

Mitchell Sigman, keyboard player for Berlin, sent me some shots. Pretty cool as I grew up on Berlin, specifically Pleasure Victim, with Metro being my favorite track. The year was 1982.

Mitchell also has his own project, called Celebutante. Check out this video for some ARP Odyssey, Moog Polymoog, and green on black retro monitor action - gotta like that. Mitchell Sigman is on guitar and vocals. The video features both beauties on the left. Who is that btw? I sent Mitchell an email asking, but haven't heard back yet. Update: Her name is Diana Dencker. She's done a few commercials.

Title link takes you to Mitchell's My Space site. Make sure to check it out. I'm listening to the track Electrolux as I type this and there is some good Polymoog action happening on that track. BTW, definitely flattered Mitchell lurks on my site. Pretty cool... Thanks Mitchell. : )

Update: Udpate via Mitchell in the comments:
"Actually every synth in that song is either Logic Audio's ES2 or Native Instruments Pro-53 (except for the little square wave lead after the chorus which is Logic ES1). I swear it's true. If I fooled everyone with the Polymoog, well, cool, that was the idea (the strings are all ES2)." Nice. That definitely sounded like a Polymoog to me.

MGMT - Kids short cover on Alesis Ion synthesizer

YouTube via adzy31 | November 25, 2008 |

"me trying to recreate some of the sounds from "Kids" by MGMT. this is one take, the drums are from Reason and the rest is all from the Ion.

A few mistakes but i find it hard to multitask... bass, lead, keyboard and foot pedal are too many things for me to do at once :P

fairly short - i was going to record the entire song but thought....if i'm not singing on it, there's no point really, as the background music is fairly repetitive. maybe if i can find someone with a decent voice we can cover it properly?

the audio is straight from my digicam. i recorded the audio in this on the PC but the volume was messed up, and it sounds alright from the camera anyway."

And the original track (note this is not the official video, see below):

Lyrics: You were a child, Crawling on your knees toward it, Making momma so proud, But your voice is too loud, We like to watch you laughing, You pick the insects off plants, No time to think of consequences [Chorus: Control yourself, Take only what you need from it/him, A family of trees wanted, To be haunted] The water is warm, But it’s sending me shivers, A baby is born, Crying out for attention, The memories fade, Like looking through a fogged mirror, Decision to decisions are made, And not bought, But I thought this wouldn’t hurt a lot. I guess not.

"HD Version: http://www.itsjonsalmon.com
Article about the video: http://www.canyon-news.com/artman2/pu...
About Abby and Rafael: www.myspace.com/abrafever
Just to set the story straight: the facepainted kids in the video are a boy and girl from Los Angeles, two friends of mine, names Raf and Abby. MGMT was not involved in the making of this video, however, they became involved down the line.
The story goes like this: December 2007: Rushing to make a due date for a USC Music Video class, I ask my friends Raf and Abby to appear in my video. I like the way they bounce off of each other despite completely different personality types, and think they both have interesting faces. Raf didn't want to shave so I didn't push him. We shot in one night, I cut overnight, turn it in and call it the worst thing I've done so far.
January 2008: On a whim one night while visiting home in Austin, Texas, I throw the video on Youtube just for kicks.
April 2008: Ray Tintori, who has directed 3 official videos for MGMT, finds my fan video online and invites myself and my two actors to come to New York to appear in MGMTs next official video for Electric Feel.
May 2008: We go to New York and have a great time on the set with the band and all their friends."

Anyone know what synths they use? The top one in the pic looks a bit like a KORG Poly-800.

XILS-Lab Poly M Virtual Instrument - "This Wreckage"

Published on Jul 3, 2017 celebutante

"As many of my synth nerd friends know, I LOVE a vintage Polymoog, but I'm afraid to buy one because they alway break. Anyway, XILS-Lab just released an awesome virtual instrument modeled on the Polymoog, so I grabbed the demo, futzed with the controls for optimum Gary Numan and made this little sample of 'This Wreckage' from the 'Telekon' record.”

Ken Stone and MFOS DIY Modules

Two pics via Mitchell Sigman of Celebutante, and Keyboard Magazine. You might also remember Mitchell from these previous posts.

"I have a .com system with modules that I've built from Ken Stone and Music From Outer Space PCB's, and I just finished doing my own silkscreening for the panels (I'm not that good at it yet though... you can see some glitches). I did all the artwork in Photoshop. I got the "tic mark" patterns for the knobs from yusynth.net, who has a lot of his own .com style art on his site.

Here is a single panel with both a Ken Stone CGS31 Digital Noise module as well as a CGS RR Real Ring Modulator (my system needs some passive attenuators to make the ringmodmodule more useful)."

Interesting. The VCA almost behaves like a lowpass filter. The upper harmonics vs. all harmonics are reduced as you lower the slider.
