Yamah QX21 midi sequencer - basic real time recording

YouTube via grauoliv
"Here's a short demo of operating the Yamaha QX 21 midi sequencer. It's only real time recording, but you can also record in step mode. Also it's digital, it seems to be nowadays a real old-fashioned thing to record midi-notes like this. Could it already be called vintage? I think so. The recording was made for a special youtube-user (Hy Sky). So it will be deleted in some weeks. But I will record a proper version, introducing some more options of the QX 21."

Home Studio Tour 2010 - interim studio

YouTube via grauoliv | December 31, 2010 |

"Yes, before it's 2 late, here is the tour of my setup at the end of 2010. My setup this year had a lot of faces, but as I'm not finished yet, it's kind of an interim studio. A lot of gear still has to find it's place, like the virus, the micron, mam sq-16 and more. So, stay tuned for the 20XI tour! ;-)"

Eminent P 275 Home Organ

YouTube via grauoliv — June 16, 2010 — "Short introduction to the organ Eminent P 275 with solina strings. Thanks to Petra (Peine) for the organ, thanx to Michael and Andreas for transport. It was worth it! But I think the 2000 Grand Theatre got more options on the solina strings, maybe ...."

Electronics Are Beatufil - Doepfer A-100 ONLY

YouTube Published on May 13, 2012 by grauoliv

"the track is completely made with a doepfer a-100 basic system 2, sound by sound patched and recorded. actually it's a cover version. the original is by my friend Michael aka NU FOLDA. I once compiled some good electronic music tracks together for him and called that compilation ELECTRONICS ARE BEAUTIFUL. that inspired him to make a tune and call it the same! it developped into some kind of ping pong, each of us made several variations from that tune. The pictures show my A-100 system and musical gear, otherwise stated.

playing around with the eminent 1600 orchestra organ

Published on Jan 15, 2016 grauoliv

"Okay, so here is my second organ from eminent, netherlands. It's the 1600 orchestra, with a detailled string organ section. '8, '4 and '8 sustain for upper and lower keyboard, '16 and '8 for the pedal. And also string ensemble for the accompaniment section. Very sad, by now the string section is broken. I have an endless note when turning it up ... :-(
As my home has already one organ, this one stands in my office. It must have gotten wet sometime over the years, so it's also a littel bit stinky ...."

Studio Metamorphosis Jan09 with ambient music

YouTube via grauoliv
"So, here is the main metamorphosis of my studio, which took place in january 2009. I had to give up the camera position because I got new windows and my tripod was standing right at the window for making the pix. Well, some little adjusting of the studio is still to be done.

A studio introduction 2009 will follow soon.

The ambient music was already recorded with the new setup and features the clavia nord modular g2, alesis micron, access virus indigo, moog little phatty and the akai mpc 500. The original track is about 9 minutes."

Roland TR-707 in da house

Published on Oct 13, 2013 grauoliv·24 videos

"Short vid with my latest good buy! I had no tripod in da house, so I filmed with my Canon EOS 600 D by hand.

The music is my cheeky attempt to recreate THE classic, ACID TRACKS by PHUTURE."

A-100 and FX

YouTube via grauoliv
"Just something that started by wanting to sound like the NON-works of Boyd Rice. The Doepfer A-100 sends noise with a slow volume envelope into the moogerfooger ringmodulator, then to the mam afb-8 filterbank and then into the alesis bitrman. One Doepfer LFO also sends some CV to the moogerfooger, which brings in the moving of the sound. The Alesis does the distortion. I think of a proper recording with a proper kind of video. Let me know what you think!"

Jarre sound from Oxygene Part 2

YouTube via grauoliv
"In an ambient circle session, I heard a sound I knew from Jarre's Oxygene album. And TOMABEMAN told me how to make it on an analog synthesizer. It has to be analog, because the filter settings make the filter self-osciallte. I'm not sure if virtual-analog synths or software can emulate this. GATTOBUS also uses this sound on his cover version on the classic Oxygene Part 2 track, also on a Little Phatty."

Youtubetech - original track, kind of techno, house

YouTube via grauoliv

"Okay, nothing very special. This is the third and final take. First the audio was bad, then the video. This time I got it! Live techno jam with pre-programmed sequencing with Manikin Schrittmacher, MAM SQ-16 and Yamaha RY-30. Bass from Moog LP and DSI Mopho, Strings from Virus and Micro Q, Percussion from Drumstation, RY-30 and Akai MPC 500. Last jam in my 2008 studio setup. Now it's getting rebuild for more efficency. The track is inspired by ripe909 who really does a great job with his tracks & videos here on youtube."

time lapse modular build - Doepfer A-100

Published on Sep 8, 2019 grauoliv

"I recently found a long missed SD-card, with pictures from 2017! So with some delay, here's a time lapse video putting together my Doepfer A-100 modular system. At that time I grouped modules together by function, recognisable by the coloured knobs.

The audio is just two VOCs modulated."

Youth (cover) (original by Anthony Rother)

YouTube via grauoliv
"Just fooling around with the track Youth by Electro-Artist Anthony Rother from his Super Space Model album. Drums are from the Novation Drumstation, bass from Doepfer A-100, lfo sound from the virus and lead from Moog LP. Sequencing with Manikin Schrittmacher and MAM SQ 16. The TV was on (behind the camera), that's the kind of flashlights you see.

Of course, this can't compare to the original. So you don't need to tell me that AR has done it way better! ;-)"

MIDI recording with Yamaha QX 21 hardware sequencer

YouTube via grauoliv | December 19, 2010 |

"So, here is my first video about the QX 21 (first built in 1985). I show you how to record in real time and step mode on the two tracks. There is another third track. The original recording will be copied to the third when a track is quantisized. And of course it can be used for copy & paste to arrange a proper song with different patterns or recordings. Let me now if you want to know more about this little sequencer.

specs: 2 recording tracks, 16 MIDI channels, MIDI in-out-throu, tape interface, footswitch for start/stop, 1/4 - 1/64 notes with 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32 triplet, 8.100 notes without velocity, tempo control via dial (40-250 bpm)"

arped ambient music with walking video - #1

YouTube via grauoliv
"I took my new camcorder for a walk on a sunny autumn day around a lake in my hometown. The video is 50% slowed down and I gave it the SciFi fx from iMovie 09. The music was already arped in fall this year. I had that huge brain track from The Orb in my mind while making it. The arp comes from a Korg Poly 8000, which I just got this year for about 150 Euro - what a bargain! The talking you hear is german, from the british SciFi series U.F.O. Feel free to give me some feedback."
