Minimoog Voyager Select Series to be Phased Out with Price Drop

via Moog Music
"Moog has announced its plans to discontinue production of the Minimoog Voyager Select Series, the top selling backlit analog synthesizer of all time.
Over the last 6 years the Select Series has been used in studios and on stages around the globe. Whether it’s Madonna, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, CeeLo Green, Lady Gaga or Sugarland, the custom combinations of color and finish reflects the unique aesthetic and personality of its owner. Moog will continue building the Select Series through the end of the year, with the final Select Series leaving the factory on Jan 1, 2013.

This is the last chance ever for prospective buyers to purchase a Select Series Voyager, but it will also be their best chance. During the remaining months of production, Moog has reduced the selling price on all Select Series Voyagers from $3,659 to $2,999.

“We felt it was important to give musicians who had always dreamt of customizing a handcrafted Voyager a final chance to build one at an unprecedented price," said Mike Adams, CEO Moog Music Inc. “We are a small company that still builds by hand, so sometimes we have to make hard decisions about ending the life of even our most favorite products. However, history has shown that discontinued Minimoogs, like the Model D and the Old School, have a tendency to become highly sought after collector's items. I'm sure we'll see them on stages and in studios for years to come.” said Adams.

The discontinuation of the Select Series comes just as Moog begins celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Minimoog Voyager. The first Minimoog Voyager introduced the world to the next generation of analog synthesizers in 2002. To honor this milestone, Moog has created an interactive ten-year retrospective containing the untold history of the Voyager, artist profiles and performances, free gifts, and other announcements that are yet to come.

Minimoog Voyager Select Series will be gone by 2013. Until that time the price has been reduced from $3,659 to $2,999. Available direct from the Moog website or your favorite Moog Dealer."

One of a Kind Prototype Green Moog Little Phatty Stage II SN 9931

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

This is the Green Little Phatty in the video below. More pics follow after the video.

"Moog Little Phatty Stage II Plus Green. This is a one of a kind prototype. The only one out there with the white Moog logo instead of the black (they called those Toxic Phatty's and they were a limited run.) Not modded or customized, this is from the factory. This seems to be the 'test' model to see which color worked best for that limited run of Toxic Phattys. Has all the stage two options, CV in and out, plus the lighted mod wheel with LFO rate flashing. Gorgeous green lights on the front and that sweet green with white logo back plate. Comes with original box, original manual and power cord. Hate to sell, but I can't keep them all. Needs a good caring home that loves this green goddess."

MoogFest (Why are we not playing at?) by Synthetic Things

Published on Apr 20, 2014 SyntheticThings

"All in good fun and love for Moog we've put together this Synthetic Things music video for the new song called "MoogFest (Why are we not playing at?)". It's a tribute, and a plea for next year, not a slam or accusation of Moog, or MoogFest. To be honest, we're so excited that Moog has taken this event back under their control. It's an amazing festival of synth nerd mega geek out awesomeness. That's why we want to play even more than before.

Check out more music at http://syntheticthings.com

We actually started this band almost exclusively to play at MoogFest because we are such synth geeks, and it would mean a lot to us. This is a tribute as much as a plea.

Gear used:
Moog Voyager running through Mooger Foogers: MF-103 Phaser, MF-104m Delay, MF-107 FeqBox, CP-251, VX-351 - For glide riffs.
Moog Little Phatty, Green w/ white logo (one of a kind). - Intro FX, Happy Synth, pad line, and bass extras.
DSI Tempest - All drums.
Elektron Analog FOUR - Bass riff & Synth hit pattern.
Moog MiniTaur - Big modulated bottom.
AniMoog - Pad line double.
Alesis Andromeda: Big Wet Arp FX
Boss SE-70 controlled by a Moog SubPhatty - Vocoder.

Special Thanks to Pete Carty, Chris Martin, Trey Counce, and Jim Rogers."

Voyager Matrixsynth Edition

Via Bee Jay in the comments of this post:

"Happy Christmas, Matrix! may all your (synthy) dreams come true!"

Thanks! : ) A Matrixsynth green Voyager would indeed be a dream come true. Man, that looks nice. Bee Jay saw my Voyager Fire edition post and created a mock-up of the ad with a Matrix Edition. Something tells me the Matrix edition would not fly due to the Movie, however a Matrixsynth edition probably would. I had the site and the green on black before the movies folks - back in Oct' 97. BTW, I ran the idea by someone at Moog and they said we would need to order 50 of them, so... We'll see. If anyone out there can pull any strings...

Update: Also posted on SoNiCbRaT. Thanks Bee Jay! Thanks SoNiCbRaT! One day....

Moog Voyager Matrixsynth Edition?

Some readers in the comment of this post voiced interest in a Minimoog Voyager Matrixsynth edition which would have green instead of the current blue or solar illumination. I'm going to contact Moog and possibly Novamusik to see how to go about doing this. If you are seriously interested in picking one of these up, please post a comment in this post. If you commented in the previous post, please comment again here. This will give me a better idea of how many are seriously interested. Note that I cannot afford to front the bill, so that bit would need to be worked out. If there is enough interest, maybe Novamusik or even Analogue Industries would be willing to move forward with the idea? BTW, if they steal the idea and come out with another name, we will of course have to protest. : )

Update: Image via Bee Jay in the comments. WOW! I want it. Thanks Bee Jay!

Update: If you are not interested in one now, but might be at a future date, or if you just think it would be cool to see a green Voyager like this made, feel free to comment as well.

Black Tolex Moog Voyager XL SN ZC67754

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"This is limited edition Moog Voyager XL, only 100 were ever made in celebration of Moog’s modular heritage. Not only that, this synth was a special order of a recording studio based in Austin, TX. Only this synth out of 100 has a green display, others have a blue one. With green display it looks much more “dramatic“. This is the last batch of Voyager XL production line.

I have all the original packaging in my studio in Kyiv, Ukraine. I will ship it to the buyer when I’ll have a chance to get there. But for now I’m selling it as it is."

Crashing through Mirrors - Moog Voyager, Adidas tracksuit and a wall in Berlin

YouTube Uploaded by instantknut on Nov 22, 2011

"This video is about the interaction of a man in a tracksuit with a Moog synthesizer at a wall in Berlin.
The song actually is a metaphoric story about a broken mirror, but there was no mirror available, not even a broken one. But we had a wall, which is even more metaphoric.
My thanks go to cam operator Mr. Berg and head of production Antje."

I am green! Moog Voyager, Monomachine, Polyevolver, Jomox 888

Uploaded by instantknut on Aug 22, 2010

"This is a live mix I did to motivate my synths to play together as a team again. Mhh, and a little gearporn, I admit.
Monomachine acts as sequencer again and adds some beats and the snare noise. The Bass comes from the Moog Voyager. Jomox XBase 888 did the 4 to the floor beats. The Polyevolver synthesizes the noisy drone sound in the background. The MPC is heavily underused and says "computer" some time (a sample from the mono). Access Indigo2 does the rest."

"Although the voyage may have ended at the Moog factory, the journey continues on, as there as such lovely examples of the Voyager synthesizer still floating around. This particular unit was from a very limited run!

We recently sent the main board in for service last month to the Moog factory. They serviced and replaced known faulty parts. (receipt can be provided by request). It should be good to go for years to come!

Synth is tested, sounds and functions wonderfully, and will be lovingly packed. Look no further if you're shopping for a minty Voyager -- it's gorgeous. AC power cable included."

MOOG Voyager Jade Black

The new customer color Voyagers are up on the MOOG site. Here's the Jade green in black. Looks nice. The green in this shots is a bit closer the the green on my site compared to this. I'm curious what it will look like in person.

Yorick Tech Adds Polyphonic Modulations & New Panel Designs with Low Frequency Expander 3.0

"Low Frequency Expander 3.0 by Yorick Tech June 2021 Announcing the Low Frequency Expander 3.0, with all-new front panel designs and a major firmware upgrade including polyphonic modulations using MPE for the P6 and OB-6, available from June 2021. The firmware upgrade is free to all users.

The LFE is a standalone, hardware modulation expander that supports the OB-6 and Prophet 6, Rev 4 Prophets 5 and 10, Moog Voyager, Korg Prologue, Nord Wave 2 and a generic ‘CC- Synth’: any device that can be controlled by midi CC messages. It uses midi to provide 3 complex LFOs and a 6-stage envelope – which can also be configured as a 2 to 16-step modulation sequencer – to add considerably more complexity, movement and playability to these amazing synthesizers. It also acts as a 4-slot modulation matrix, allowing you to route velocity, key, aftertouch, mod wheel, CV in (optional) and others to about 50 destinations in the synth (80 with the Nord!)

Selecting a new patch on the synth makes the LFE automatically recall the same-numbered LFE patch from its memory, so the two have their patches locked together. The LFE will display the synth patch’s name and category for Sequential synths. You can select the next (or previous) patch in the same category, stepping through all the Bass patches for example.

New in 3.0
All new front panel designs which are more attractive and with clearer labelling. MPE Midi Polyphonic Expression. For the OB-6 and Prophet 6, the LFE can send modulations to each of the synth’s voices independently, so it will send polyphonic rather than global modulations. Each of the LFE’s 4 modulators on its front panel now operates 7 modulators ‘under the hood’ (1 global and 1 per voice), so the LFE is actually running 7 independent envelope/sequencers and 21 LFOs. As the LFE also allows MPE to work in Poly Chain mode, giving you 12 voices of MPE and 13 envelope/sequencers and 37 LFOs. There are also MPE Spread settings that allow each of the LFOs run at slightly different frequencies and the envelopes to run with slightly different slope times, allowing ‘vintage’ type variations between voices.

Aux midi channel. The LFE can now split its modulations between two different Midi Channels, so you can for example, send LFO 1 and LFO 3 to channel 1 and LFO2 and the envelope to channel 13. You can also set up the LFE to send a new Bank and Program number on the Aux channel every time the LFE changes patch. This allows you to change the Program of an attached FX unit or second synth, to your own choice of Program number, every time the primary synth changes patches. Arpeggiator. The LFE now has an Arpeggiator, primarily for Prophet 5 / 10 and Voyager users. It has Up, Down, Up-Down, Down-Up, Random and Played-Order modes, 1 to 4 octaves, the usual clock sync multipliers and a Key Hold function. There is also a Gate length control, adjustable up to 200%, for overlapping notes.

OLEDs are available in white, blue, green or yellow. Batch 7 starts shipping this month and prices are held despite the global component supply situation."

See the Yorick Tech label below for demos and more.

NAMM & NOT NAMM - New Products on the Synth Front

Well, it's that time of year again. Keep an eye out on the NAMM label (added to top right menu) for everything NAMM and more. More in that anything new will get the label whether it's shown at NAMM or not. It's about new gear. Updates in this post will be preceded in red. Some already in below. See "The NAMM List!" link under the Twitter, Facebook, and RSS labels on top of the right to get back to this post later.

(A note on the top site menus: I removed the iPhone and iPad labels as they go up in posts every day now so you can find them there. eBay links are on the right, so I removed it as well.)

That said, the following are some of the things to look out for. If you have any NAMM info feel free to comment and/or send it in. If I missed anything, let me know! If you are going to NAMM, feel free to send pics and video in.
