Kamoni

First of all if you haven't seen Kamoni's videos yet, click here and scroll. You will find some of the most amazing live drumming with an Elektron Machinedrum, Monomachine and drumKat. It forces you to take a different perspective on the technique of playing a synth. Keyboards have dominated technique along with the modular interface of course. Kamoni explores the world of synths via drums. Really amazing stuff.

Kamoni wrote in to let us know that he has a new website at Kamoni.net which he plans to update with new and exciting stuff. Do check it out. If you have an RSS/Bog Reader like Bloglines, you can sub to the site and updates will come to you.

Be sure to check out the following while there:

Video: Beloved Drum Machines Hit the Road (extract)

YouTube via FLstudioMexico
"Would You Like to Tap My Box? from kamoni on Vimeo.

Drum machine lovers, you now have the beat gear equivalent of Matt Harding and Where the Hell is Matt?. Kamoni, aka sonic creator, composer, and experimenter Micah Frank, takes his favorite devices out on the road, piecing them together into an epic YouTubular jam.

Doepfer and Korg, Elektron and Akai, plus a lot of other devices make their way around New York and Brooklyn and other parts of the world. Ableton I think figured into editing the video clips in time — thank you, Live, for video. I could point out individual devices, but then Id ruin your fun, wouldnt I?

Of course, this could be both emulated and expanded. We could perform a single rhythm, played by MPC and Machinedrum owners around the planet. (You could even get that laptop running on battery.)

I can see it now. Internets, go!

And yes, this does demonstrate where puremagnetik gets all those beats for their line of sampled things. Micah gets his hands on a lot of gear."

Kamoni : Tonight’s Live Setup with Atarah Valentine

via Kamoni

If you haven't checked out Komoni, do it. You can find all posts featuring Komon here, which includes video. He plays the modular with the drumKat drum pads and it is impressive. For the labels below I'm guessing the black modules on the right are MFB. If you know otherwise, let me know.

"'Reise ins Nirvana' (Journey to Nirvana) is my latest patch created at my new A-100 (mini) Analog Modular System. Ouuh, i'm happy that i've ordered enough cables ;)
The pro of my mini system is that i can note all settings very easy to rebuild it later. Don't mind to try this with a monster system."

Workspace and Environment: Kamoni

You'll find the full interview on TRASH_AUDIO.
"What are your current favorite pieces of hardware?
The Doepfer modular and Machinedrum have to be my favorites. With the Doepfer, I don't feel any restrictions and I can fluidly patch together any type of sound I want. The Machinedrum has very intuitive programming. I can hack out a beat or even melodies on the MD very efficiently. I've been using the MD for three years now and it never ceases to inspire me."

Junction: New York City Taxis Generate a Real-Time Soundtrack

YouTube Published on Jul 7, 2012 by kamoni

"Junction is a sound sculpture generated in real-time by thousands of New York City taxi cabs. Through the use of publicly available live footage from New York's Traffic Management Center, Junction tracks the movements of taxis in some of the city's busiest intersections. It uses their position, velocity and overall density to synthesize sounds. The onlooker gains a feeling of omniscience, as if "watching from above", while every tracked taxi's indeterministic movements become part of a larger symphony."

Puremagnetik Delalias

via KAMONI where you'll find some more info.

"It’s a modulating delay that has some built in digital artifacts and enhanced undersampling aliasing controls. It’s quite cool, if you do the math, you can easily get your aliasing in harmony (or slightly detuned!) with your fundamental - a glorified bitcrusher if you will."

Earthquakes Generate Music in Realtime

YouTube via kamoni
"Tectonic is a sound sculpture created in real time by earthquakes as they occur across the globe. A tightly integrated system between Max/MSP, Google Earth and Ableton Live processes a stream of real-time data that is translated into synthesis and sample playback parameters."
