"This multimoog recently had a full check up done by SD Machines and is fully functional and ready to play. Cosmetically, the synthesizer is in excellent condition.

The Multimoog is a highly versatile analog monophonic synthesizer. It is basically an extended version of the Micromoog, which came out 3 years before. It features a ribbon controller and a touch sensitive keyboard. It has many interesting modulation routings and has a powerful, analog sound.

The Multimoog has 2 VCOs and a suboscillator. The filter can be modulated by the oscillator B in different ways. It has oscillator sync, noise generator, sample & hold, mixable oscillator waveforms, pulse width modulation, the 24 dB Moog filter and two envelopes. It has all interfacing you would expect from a good monophonic synth: CV / Gate IN and OUT, EXTERNAL SIGNAL IN, VCF IN. Y

A versatile synth introduced by Moog Music in 1978. It was Moog's most advanced non-modular model at the time, despite the fact that it sold for less than the Minimoog. It was a two-VCO synth with a dedicatd LFO, two attack-release envelope generators, and the usual Moog transistor ladder four-pole lowpass VCF. It reused the basic case design from the Micromoog and it carried over that model's ribbon controller; however, on the Multimoog there were multiple routing options for the ribbon controller signal.

The 44-note keyboard (F to C, typical for Moog keyboards) included aftertouch, which was routable to multiple destinations, including cross modulation; it could also accept an external control voltage input. The panel layout was notable for the rows of white slider switches which selected routing options. The model remained in production until 1981, when it was replaced by the Source. The extent of the production run is unknown; a comment to the model description page at Vintage Synth Explorer indicates that less than 1000 were produced. The Multimoog is moderately valuable to collectors today. The keyboard aftertouch force sensors have failed on nearly all extant units, and there is no known repair."

"This Multimoog is in great condition considering its age, there are very minor signs of wear and
cosmetic damage, but nothing serious, it is a great vintage piece and looks and sounds the same as when I purchased it at ACE music in Miami in 1978. I am the original owner, and it has never toured or left the studio except for some years spent in air conditioned storage. This synthesizer comes with a 44-note monophonic keyboard with aftertouch, a ribbon-type pitch bend controller, and an external control voltage and trigger inputs/outputs for interfacing with other synthesizer equipment. You can even process vocals and external inputs through the internal patented Moog filter and circuitry. I did that with vocals and guitar many, many times and it was a gas, limitless new tonalities possible for vocals and guitar and any other sound source. The Multimoog was always ahead of its time in many ways. Extensive outputs and inputs in the back to maximize flexibility. It is amazing what Robert Moog packed into this unit, the back in/out is almost like the patch panel of a huge Moog that cost x 10 times the price of the Multimoog. This unit is easy to use for a novice in analog synthesis and absolute heaven for an experienced professional. Featuring the legendary patented Moog filter design, this Multimoog synthesizer is in great working condition and works and sounds fine, just as it did back in 1978."

"The Multimoog was Moog's response to the ARP Pro Soloist, although a bit late to the game. It was part of a trio of synths that were known as the "Constellation", which included the Apollo (Polymoog), Lyra (Multimoog), and Taurus bass pedal synth. The Lyra eventually morphed into the Multimoog and was designed to sit nicely on top of the Polymoog case, matching the look of it, and interface with it through multiple jacks in the back. It was basically an expanded Micromoog, with an additional daughterboard for the second VCO and amazing touch sensitive keyboard effects that could be routed to sync, LFO, etc. It was the last Moog synth before Bob left the company. It is sort of like a Minimoog with aftertouch capabilities, but has a very unique sound. Check it out on Saga's Heads or Tails "Pitchman" (the bass sound), Telex (lots of tracks), Spyro Gyra (Access All Areas), as well as Kraftwerk's Model off of Man Machine (actually a Micromoog, but same sound)."

"This Multimoog is fully functional and has been recently serviced in-house. It is in great cosmetic condition with some wear to the particle board base notwithstanding.

The Multimoog is an expanded version of the Moog MicroMoog. The MultiMoog features 2 oscillators, a ribbon controller, variable waveforms, flexible sample and hold, LFO, aftertouch (for pitch, VCF, waveshape, or LFO rate) and a fantastic sounding 24dB Moog ladder filter."

Custom Printed Moog Stickers and a Polymoog Case

via Elhardt on AH:

"Since I'm going to be parting out my Polymoog, I figured my lid which is in almost new condition might be something somebody would want to buy to make their Polymoog look new. However, since day one that back Moog sticker was all scraped up (this was Moog's NAMM demo) making that part not look new.

So I spent several hours in Corel Draw, measuring and drawing up a new Polymoog sticker to replace the one there. Since the print shop has a minimum order cost, I had to print a bunch of extras including different sizes and colors, plus I went with the additional high-gloss laminated coating over the top which looks beautiful. Printed on Orajet vinyl stickers. So if anybody needs Moog stickers to replace damaged or missing ones on either a Polymoog, the back of a Multimoog or to replace the missing plastic logo on the front of a Multimoog, or if you just want a Moog bumper sticker, or to put Moog stickers on other manufacturer's gear to increase its value to Moog vintage prices, or for any other reason, then here's pricing and sticker details below. Note, if for some reason there's more of a demand than I expected, I can always have more printed up, including other sizes too, and even possibly with user requested text put right in the sticker, such as your name, synth SN#, etc.

Minimum order $6 Paypal, free mailing to US (and probably free to Canada and
Europe assuming mailing a letter isn't outrageous)

(1) $6, Polymoog Sticker 7" x 2-3/8" with the rounded rectangle around the edge. I have several in black, and one each in the colors at picture below. (2) $6, Polymoog Sized Sticker but without the white rectagular boarder. White logo, black backgrount. Looks stately without being pretentious.
(3) $4, Multimoog Back Side Sticker, Moog text is 4-3/16". Black background, White logo.
(4) $2, Multimoog Front Logo Plate Sticker Replacement, Moog text is 2-1/2" wide. Black background, White logo.

If your interested in purchasing, email me what you want so I can see if I still have any left.

-Elhardt"

MOOG Multimoog

images via this auction
"This Multimoog is a monophonic analog synthesizer manufactured by Moog Music from 1978 to 1981. Derived from the earlier Micromoog, the Multimoog was intended to be a less expensive alternative to Moog's flagship, Minimoog. It nevertheless had some advanced features which the Minimoog did not include: It was one of the earliest synthesizers to feature aftertouch capability (pressure-sensitive keys).

Key features include:
♫ 44 note monophonic keyboard with aftertouch
♫ Ribbon-type pitch bend controller
♫ Glide (portamento)
♫ Two voltage-controlled oscillators with waveform continuously adjustable from sawtooth, through square, to narrow pulse
♫ Oscillator sync
♫ Noise source
♫ 24db/octave Moog transistor-ladder lowpass voltage controlled filter
♫ Dedicated low frequency oscillator with triangle, square, and random waveforms
♫ Extensive modulation routing options, including sample & hold, audio-frequency modulation of the VCF for quasi-ring modulation, waveform sweep/quasi-pulse width modulation, and more
♫ Two AR (attack/release) envelope generators with switchable percussive/sustaining profiles
♫ * * * External audio input for processing instruments, vocals, etc.
♫ External control voltage and trigger inputs/outputs for interfacing with other synthesizer equipment
(Serial #2173)

What's cool about this one is pressure (not velocity) sensitive keys. By pushing a little harder on the key, you can bend the note by routing its pressure sensitivity to either or both oscillators, a filter or some other effect. It's especially cool when doing the intro to Loverboy's, "Take Me to the Top," or anything from Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

On the far left, there's a pitch ribbon - basically, a metal screen stretched over a resistive material - like a tuning knob you adjust with your finger tip. By running your finger above or below center, you change the pitch of the note. Next to that, there's a wheel that changes the note in other ways, depending on which filter or effect you route it to. The kinds of sounds you can make with this thing are nearly endless. It's the beauty of analog.

Pitch ribbons eventually need to be rebuilt or replaced because over time, the screen flexes inward, touching the resistive layer underneith it, leading to notes you weren't expecting. Most of the time, this one works. Occasionally, it sticks. Luckily, Moog Music has them, as do other suppliers. If you decide to get one, contact Mike Bucki at ModuSonics Music, 6300 Old Beattie Rd. Lockport, NY 14094 Phone/Fax (716) 438-0756.

Likewise, switches, keys and potentiometers (volume & tuning knobs) get dusty or oxydised on the inside and lose their connections or sound fuzzy when you turn them. Whenever this happens, all you need to do is move them back and forth until the metal or resistive surfaces inside them are shiny again. Whenever a key stops making contact, simply turn the synthesizer over, pull out the two plastic covers, exposing the wires below the keys, and rub the surface of the larger wire with your fingertip or an alcohol-soaked swab or some fine-grit sandpaper. The keys have small vertical wires below them that when pressed, connect these small wires to a thicker horizontal wire. Once a year or so, pull the panels off and clean the larger wire. If one of the smaller wires looks out of place, it's easy to bend it back to look more like the ones on the other keys. Do this while the unit is turned off and unplugged."

I once picked up a Pro-One from Guitar Center for $125 because it had a sticky note. Turn out one of the J-Wires (as pictured here on the Multimoog) was bent and in constant contact with the bar. I bent it back and it was fine.

This is all analog. Only signal processing is adding a touch of reverb from a TC Electronics multi-effects rack.

Sound recorded straight to the camera, no external mics."

"This is a near mint Multimoog with the rarest Gold screening. It looks amazing. Immaculate. It's 100% original. It works perfect and sounds stunning.

This Multimoog has never been opened up! The aftertouch works superbly. I might have given the aftertouch bar a tiny tweak to get it real sensitive, but being it's virgin, I chose not too."

"Multimoog is the big brother of the Micromoog, both were kind of unique synthesizers for Moog at the time. They both feature morphable waveform VCOs, Open-System CV patch points, a sub-oscillator, and ribbon controllers in replace of the pitch wheel. The Multimoog also adds a second VCO with the same waveform morphing, velocity and pressure control from the keyboard, and routable destinations for the ribbon. It looks fairly limited from the front but you can conjure up some interesting timbres pretty quickly and easily with the knobs and switches provided.

This unit was just gone over / serviced by our in-house tech, cleaned and calibrated."

"This auction is for a used Moog Multimoog analog keyboard synthesizer with serial number 1383. This was from the company's Buffalo NY years, manufactured from 78-81. I am not sure of the date of manufacture for this particular keyboard. It has an assignable ribbon touch controller as well as an assignable aftertouch keyboard. The front panel graphics and lettering are the gold variation. This is a rare Moog keyboard as only 1000 of this model were made. It's built like a tank, made for playing and handling and will last a very long time if given proper attention and care. It has a rich sound, capable of a wide palette of tones and effects with a very accessible layout and modulation routing. My understanding is that this is one of the last keyboard designs Bob Moog worked on before Moog Inc was sold to Norlin.

MOOG Multimoog

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

"It is one of the most rare Moog synths-less than 1,000 were ever manufactured. (They were made in the late 1970's, maybe until 1980 or 81 at the latest.) It's an awesome sounding synth , with that unmistakabley rich warm analog sound you get from Moog oscillators and filters. This synth has 2 oscillators, and tons of routing possibilities for the modulation and ribbon controller. The ribbon is a very cool feature, as are the touch sensitive keys which allow you to vary the amount of modulation you bring in depending on how hard you depress the key. This model was loaded with a surprising amount of features for a synth this size, and some of them, such as the keyboard touch feature or the ability to morph from one waveform into another, are definitely unique to the Multimoog."
