Navs' Modular Lab

via Navs:
"just wanted to give you the heads up: there's two new sets of tests at Navs' Modular Lab.

Doepfer + Bananalogue Wave Multipliers - from inverse filtering and easy FM to outright destruction, go forth and multiply!

Swayed by Cwejman - VCA-2P, VCO-2RM + MMF-1. Modular basics from the Rolls Royce of Eurorack.

While you're there, be sure to check out Navs' Patch of the Day - diary of a week of wiring.

Navs Clockbox

via Navs:
"Navs' Clockbox: a compact 8-Step analogue sequencer featuring clock divide, odd step, random reset and speed settings. Oh, and loads of pretty LEDs.

Obviously inspired by Schneider's Jimibox and Doepfer's Vanity Cases - I know, I could have saved myself the grief, and calloused hands, but the A_Sol SQ8 is just too damn deep (10cm) to fit in one of those boxes!

Modules used: A_Sol SQ8, Doepfer A-160 + A-161 Clk Div/ Seq, A-147 VCLFO, MNT Mini PSU. Random function provided by A_Sol SH-NZ (in main suitcase).

Oh, the legending is obviously Photoshopped. I'll make a real sticker as soon as I fix my printer ;)

Cheers,
Navs

PS More modular tests coming in the first week of August. Meantime, be sure to check out the rest of the site and forum!

Navs 4MS VCAM & PEG Demo

via Navs

"I got a chance to play with the prototypes of the 4MS VCA Matrix & Pingable Envelope Generator this past week while Dann & Jeannot were visiting Berlin...

The VCAM works as you'd expect: it's a matrix mixer with the added benefit of SSM VCAs & mutes, capable of processing both CVs & audio. The LED mute buttons, in particular, would be useful in performance.

The PEG offers tempo-sync'd envelopes/ LFOs with control over multiplication or division of the envelope time, contour shaping tools and various trigger outs. With a little feedback and when run at audio-rates it can produce chaotic results."

Check out navs.modular.lab for more.

Harvestman Polivoks VCF Demo via Navs

via Navs:

"I've added a demo of the Harvestman Polivoks VCF to the Patch of the Day thread at the Canecutters' forum.

Two minutes of manual frequency FM with the Polivoks being modulated by a Plan B Model 15 VCO. Very Metal.

Expect a full review in the Modular Lab soon.

Cheers,
Navs

4ms PEG demo by navs

"Perfect for synced modulations, the PEG generates LFOs and envelopes which can be locked to a master clock. Once 'pinged', its variable slopes run at either the base time or are stretched/ shrunk to a divided/ multiplied rate. Here it is in action"

It's the Envelope, Stupid! - Navs' Modular Lab Easter EG Hunt

"time for another Modular Lab test:
Common wisdom has it that the most important module for shaping your sound is the filter. I beg to differ: it's the envelope, stupid!

On the bench: Doepfer's A-140 ADSR, A-142 Decay/ Gate, A-143-1 Complex EG/ LFO & Cwejman's ADSR-VC2.

Enjoy the test and happy hunting!

Cloned Again - Analogue Solutions SY02 (Korg MS-20 filter remake)

via Navs

"This one's been around for ages and I don't know why it's taken me so long to try it out, but I'm glad I now have.
Apparently a 1:1 clone of the original and much-loved Korg MS-20 High Pass/ Low Pass filter combo, it's a cracker! Have a quick listen here and here. And if that piques your interest you can download the zipped test here. The test unit was part of SchneidersBuero's JimiBox. More info here.

Cheers,
Navs"
