"I Can See Them" Rehearsal

newechoproductions | August 14, 2010

"I shot some over the shoulder low rez video using a point and shoot camera while rehearsing. This is an excerpt from the song "I Can See Them" from the album "I Hear Your Signals". I'm controlling synths in real-time using Percussa AudioCubes. The video illustrates how sensitive the "sensor" cube is. Only slight finger movements can cause large changes."

AudioCube Jam with 9 Box Casual Musical Instrument at Electro-Music 2011 Festival in NY

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Feb 22, 2012

There was an AudioCube jam at the 2011 Electro-Music Festival in NY (http://event.electro-music.com/), I brought 6 AudoiCubes (http://www.Percussa.com) and setup my casual musical instrument templates called the 9 Box. This same system is the basis for multiple music labs in schools.

The system fits in a backpack, is intended for 1-4 players. It only takes a few minutes to setup the system and about 1 minute to learn to play the 9 Box. "9 Box" refers to a 3x3 matrix of 9 clips - hence the "9 Box". Why 9 clips? After much research I've concluded that 9 is a perfect number of clips for mapping to a single AudioCube and a small enough number of clips that it's easy to keep track of the different musical or sound phrases.

Watch for annotations in video for more details.

Sound Design Experiment with Aalto and AudioCubes

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Nov 1, 2011

"I've used the configure button on the Ableton Device holding the Aalto syntheiszer to select a set of parameters that I then map to faces of two Percussa AudioCubes in sensor mode. Spatial movement of my fingers modulate parameters in custom patches I created in Aalto from INIT. In same cases cubes modulate each other if sensors are facing each other."

Mark Mosher "Journey to Kobol" - Once Patch Performance Series - XILS PolyKBII

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Apr 11, 2011

"The video is intended to show what's possible when you constrain your tool set and inspire others to extend their craft by "going deep" and transcending technology. Featured in this video is XILS PolyKBII which is a virtual analog modeled version which captures the sound and spirit of the legendary RSF PolyKobol Analog synthesizer. Unique features of this synth that make it great for one-patch-improvisations are the Dynamic stereo Modulation YX pad, Polyphonic Modulation YX pad, 8 part Polyphonic Sequencer, with live recording, velocity editing, ontinuously modulated waveforms (in an polyphonic analog model)."

An Exclusive First Look at Tim Thompson's Kinect-Based Instrument: MultiMultiTouchTouch

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Apr 2, 2011

"MultiMultiTouchTouch is custom solution invented by Tim Thompson that offers players any number of arbitrarily-shaped multitouch areas with three-dimensional spatial control. Interaction with this space allows users to control and play virtual synthesizers using nothing but a Microsoft Kinect as the controller. In this video Mark Mosher interviews Tim who offers a behind-the-scenes look at the technology. At the end of the video Mark gives MultiMultitouchTouch a try. Starting Work on an iPad Lemur Template for Moog Phatty Series

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
YouTube Published on Jun 6, 2012 by newechoproductions

"I've started work on an iPad Lemur template for my Moog Slim Phatty. This is a very early version of what I have ultimately planned but the video does show early control with physics as well as bi-directional synch. I'm programming the Lemur via Wifi, the Lemur is attached to the Phatty via the camera kit and straight into the USB port. I also have a Novation Remote SL hooked up via MIDI to play notes on the Phatty. You can also use WiFi via a host like Ableton live to control the Phatty.

In this version of the template, Filter controls are in red. There is an XY for Cutoff and Res with physics controls for Friction, Attraction and Speed. I can also lock the control on the X and Y Axis. To the right Filter EG amount with filter envelopes. Under that Filter Overload.

Next are Arpeggiator controls that are normally hidden under-the-hood in the Advanced Menu. So I can directly control Arp on, Latch, Clock Div, and Arp Octave. To the right of this a little note trigger button.

Lastly I have an Amp Envelope in Blue. Unlike from the front panel of the Phatty, Lemur allows me to control more than one parameter at the same time, like Cutoff and Res, or all the segments of a an envelope.

More to come...

Early work on a granular/additive patch in Camel Audio Alchemy

YouTube via newechoproductions | September 24, 2010

"At Electro-Music, there was an old florescent light in my room. It made the coolest sound when you turned it on.

I of course recorded it with my handy Zoom H2 and now I'm working on some patches using this sample as source audio. A quick video of early work on a patch in Camel Audio Alchemy.

"Control Zone" by Mark Mosher (Live Rehearsal Video)

YouTube via newechoproductions | October 14, 2010

"One Man, One Theremin, One AudioCube :^) In this video I perform the instrumental electronic music song "Control Zone" off of my album I HEAR YOUR SIGNALS which you can download from http://markmosher.bandcamp.com/album/...

I'm routing the Moog Etherwave Theremin analog signal into Ableton Live and convert the pitch-to-MIDI in real-time then route the signal to various virtual instruments hosted out of Live. I then use a Percussa AudioCube in Sensor mode to add 4 additional dimensions of modulate in real-time. So 6 dimensions of spatial control. I'm changing the signal routing of the Theremin to route MIDI to different virtual instruments on the fly using the Novation Launchpad. I definitely went for "Hendrix" in parts of the song.

"Dark Signals" by Mark Mosher (Live Rehearsal Video)

YouTube via newechoproductions | October 01, 2010

"'Dark Signals' is a song from my album I Hear Your Signals. This video is in HD and I captured the audio full fidelity right from my sound card in real-time and made note edits. It's one of my favorite songs off the album and is becoming a crowd favorite at live shows. A dark original electronica song with driving big beats, bit-crushed high-hats, a dash of ambient texture, and tasty distorted synth leads. Checkout the rippin' synth solo at the 1:42 mark performed live from a Tenori-On matrix controller sending notes to a virtual synth running in Ableton Live. The Moog Etherwave Theremin signal is being converted from analog back to digital and is driving virtual synths as well.

You can buy the album name your prices ($0 for Free) over at http://markmosher.bandcamp.com.

iPad Experiment Controlling Sunrizer Synthesizer from TNRi

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
YouTube Published on May 24, 2012 by newechoproductions

"I've used the physical Tenori-On W for over two years. I prefer to run use it as a controller and run racks for virtual instruments running in Ableton Live or to turn external hardware rather than using it's internal synth engine. So naturally, after getting TNRi for my iPad I wanted to replicate the same idea.

Luckily, certain synths such as the wonderful Sunrizer (http://beepstreet.com/) can remain running in the background allowing you to switch over to a controller app such as TNRi.

This video shows all this in action. Here is the setup:
1) Start Sunrizer and find or create a patch to your liking
2) In the top-right of Sunrizer is a button labelled 'BCK". Click it and it will start blinking yellow.
3) Click the Home button on your iPad
4) Start TNRi
5) Launch the menu by clicking the status window above the play button
6) Select "Preferences Menu" and turn "Local Control" to "Off".

That's it, now all the MIDI gets pumped through to the background app.

9 Box AudioCube Drone Jam at Skyline High School in Longmont, CO

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Feb 25, 2012

I was invited to the newly remodeled Skyline High School in Longmont yesterday to discuss doing a performance at the school.

When I showed up the tabletop gaming club was in session. I broke out the 9 box with 6 AudioCubes (it all fits in one backpack) and the teachers and students jumped right and played a jam session with the system. The students were into all sorts of cool stuff by the way, like arduino projects and DIY hacks on hardware. They were very psyched to learn the details of the AudioCubes and we had a great discussion on the how AudioCubes IR sensors are optimized for expressive music performance."

Mark Mosher Improv Tone2 Saurus Synthesizer

YouTube Uploaded by newechoproductions on Apr 7, 2012

"This is single patch improvisation recorded in one pass with no edits using Tone2's virtual Synthesizer Saurus. I'm starting with a factory patch in the "Lead" bank called "1970s Soloist H". I only touch the computer once during the performance in the middle to turn up the gain in the mod matrix so that LFO modulates pitch.

Prior to recording I mapped all sorts of parameters to my Novation Remote SL MK II Keyboard.

- XY map to Filter and Rez
- Bank 1 of the top 8 knobs are mapped to filter parameters and OSC Balance
- Bank 2 of top 8 knobs are mapped to effects parameters
- Bottom row 8 knobs are MIDI mapped to Oscillator noise type AM/FM, LFO Speed, Glide rate
- The first 4 sliders map to the volume ADSR
- The next 4 sliders map to filter ADSR

I used my projector to paint my wall with Saurus to the knob movement you see on the wall is in real-time and corresponds to my controller movement.
