Prophet64 SID Cartridge is Out

Apologies for being late on this one. Remember the Prophet64? Well, the cartridge is now available in limitted quantities.

"Prophet64 is a suite of very user friendly music applications for the Commodore 64 platform. Designed to hook up to modern MIDI equipment with either DIN-sync or third party MIDI interfaces, it makes your old computer become a highly useful music tool.

The software is distributed on a hardware cartridge that plugs right into the back of your C64. No disk or tape loading, just plug and play!

The Cartridge contains the whole suite of applications. You can read more about them in the links on the right side bar.

With an array of music software that mimics modern and classic sequencing devices through versatile user interfaces, Prophet64 opens the door for everyone who wishes to explore the world of the legendary audio circuit (the "SID") in the Commodore computers.

Instead of collecting dust in the closet, you can put your C64 at work right beside the synthesizer rig in your studio today! Add some in-fashion bleeps and blops to your latest track, an extra bass flavor, an additional lead sound or why not an 8-bar break with Rob Hubbard drums?

The possibilities are endless."

C64 AlphA Mod

via bigmech.com where you'll find the instructions.

"Since the C64 is an 8-Bit system, and the SID is controlled by 8-bit values generated by the C64, it has gained popularity among a community of musicians who utilize 8-bit technology in order to create modern music containing sounds reminiscent of 1980's video games (8-Bit Music). However, the sound of the SID chip is far from limited to bleeps and blips.

In early June, 2006 Prophet64 made the bold move of releasing its SID music software on C64 cartridges. This completed the transition of the C64 from a computer system dependant on floppy and/or tape drives, to an independent piece of pro audio studio equipment. Could the union of Prophet64 with the C64 as a musical instrument be further improved upon? I thought so. The following pages explain what I have done.

If you decide to perform these mods to your C64, I recommend that you do so one at a time, stopping to test each mod as you progress. It’s also a good idea to do them in order. You don’t want to create a difficult situation such as removing the original video connector before you have the S-video mod working."

Bassline is played by an good old C64 equipped with Cynthcart.
Tune is called "we ain't finished yet" and has been featured on DEAD PIXELS long play.

In 2009 I began experimenting with SID chiptune (built-in sound generator chip of Commodore 64), and Cynthcart to create a blend of original 8bit sound from the 80's and Rock music.

Making Music with the MSSIAH Sequencer

Uploaded by 8bitventures on Aug 11, 2009

"This video demos how to use the MSSIAH Sequencer to create music with the Commodore 64.
It's as simple as with any other modern MAC or PC Sequencer. In this video the Sequencer is controlled with a
1351 mouse but it may also be operated with an Amiga or Atari mouse, ordinary C64 joystick, the keyboard itself or a PC mouse using a 1351 mouse adapter (such as the Micromys).
The MSSIAH Sequencer application can be switched to full MIDI mode in which it functions as a MIDI module being multi-timbral, polyphonic or a mix of both modes.

The MSSIAH Cartridge is a hardware cartridge with a built in MIDI interface and plugs into the back of your Commodore 64. It contains a variety of music applications that make your old Commodore computer play along the other gear in your studio.
MSSIAH Cartridge sells for EUR 49,95 and is available for purchase at our online store.
More info at: http://www.mssiah.com

In this video the MSSIAH Sequencer uses five channels of audio on the Commodore 64 still the SID (audio circuit in the C64) only had three oscillators available.
This is made possible by adding another SID to the computer giving a total of six tracks in MSSIAH Sequencer.
The cleanest way to put in the additional SID circuit is by using the SID2SID, a DIY circuit board also available for purchase at our online store."
