circuit bent e-mu xl7 command station w/ mm1 module

via this auction
also see this post
"this auction is for the circuit bent emu command station and the mm1 midi module the unit was purchased as a brand new instrument. the previous owner said the command station was used for only a few hours. i have confirmed this and the unit internally is pristine. all knobs, buttons, outputs, velo pads, ribbon, etc are in pristine shape and just like new. the outer shell was painted and salvaged from a emu mp-7. internally it is a xl7 and is absolutely in mint shape. i've had this unit for a few weeks now and can confirm everything is working perfectly both in mm1 and emu command station. this is a one-off offer and most likely will be the only one in existence

the following audio is several drum tracks played in realtime with a simple appegiator programmed for each sound. the emu sports 32 independant arpeggiators. the drums are then circuit bent and leads into a formant synth texture controlled with a wind controller.

circuit bent kawai k1m vector synth by spunkytoofers

via this auction

"-module in excellent cosmetic and functional conditon

-all connectors and moving parts in audio path cleaned and relubricated

-internal battery has been replaced with a battery clip and new battery. the clip allows easy replacement of internal lithium battery by the user. battery should last 10-15 years.

-1 getlofi precision oscillator to control sample rate via added fluted tophat knob

-1 switch selects precision oscillator or original clock

-1/4" trs jack for expression pedals or midi control via spunkytoofers midi modules

-vintage red pilot lens with chrome base

-24 point banana jack patchbay. all bends have been carefully selected for stability and responsiveness to sound design

-8 point jack bay for switching with 4 switches. for on/off of bends. all points are color coded for ease of use

-8 stackable banana cords provided

-pdf manual, bend diagram, and k1m sound banks emailed to winner

-power supply provided for those in north american countries. those in other countries will need to supply their own 12 volt, 500ma adapter negative tip

the kawai k1m is a hybrid synthesizer that relies on pcm sampling and additive synthesis based on harmonics. it's sound can be morphed via the vector joystick. this blend of synthesis along with circuit bending makes for a truly special and unique synthesizer that would be impossible to achieve otherwise.

under midi you have multi-timbral control, aftertouch, modulation, pitchbend, split points and other features that make this a musical instrument. this puts this in a league beyond circuit bent toys. truly a circuit bent musical instrument.

all bends have been carefully selected and are completely stable.

in the video demo below you'll notice i've setup all the bends under midi. the k1m's bends are open ended and can be controlled under midi with spunkytoofers midi modules. all instruments by spunkytoofers have been redesigned to be a modular system which can be controlled or intermodulated with one another. the k1m gives you complete manual, analog controls over the bends but all instruments are designed to be controlled under midi. on the k1m the bends can be modulated by sequencing or triggering over midi and the sample rate control can be modulated either by footcontroller or outputs from a spunkytoofers midi module freely assignable from midi cc's, notes, etc.

along with the instruments ability to be fully controlled under a midi modular system all instruments are also supported. i will back my work for free warranty work and will assist customers with any instrument they purchase from me as they are instruments i work with in my music performance and sound programming.

the video below demonstrates very simple setup under midi. the pads on a akai keyboard controller are used to toggle bends on and off under midi. this would be the same as manual control over bends except that it's easier for me to trigger the bends all from one controller. the banana cords are routed from spunkytoofers midi matrix module to the k1m's banana jacks. the midi module is also sending potentiometer control over midi to the k1m at the 1/4" trs jack with a sequence from the dave smith evolver and via midi mod wheel on the keyboard for more variation. please note i choose to modulate the module under 10k control. this can accept any value foot controller or potentiometer value beyond 10k and is capable of a much larger range of control. no effects are applied and the k1m is recorded direct from the module's output."

circuit bent e-mu mp7 command station by spunkytoofers

It looks like the circuit bent command station in this video is now up for auction here.

"-circuit bent with freely routeable 24 point rotary patchbay for the maximum in flexibility.

-points were carefully researched and arranged in order of harmonics whenever possible. very intuitive interface.

-chrome chickenhead knobs

-heavy duty toggles activates rotary patchbay connections

-db25 connector added- adds the option of expanding the e-mu commandstation units with the spunkytoofers mm1 midi module.

connector supplies power to the mm1 as well as allows circuit bending over midi via added midi circuitry.

all spunkytoofers instruments are now all compatible with mm1.

mm1 is sold seperately.

-unit is expandable with up to 3 more e-mu rom cards

-2 blue jewel lenses with bright blue lighting

-solid build and and quality components used throughout

-unit in superb shape. all functions work perfectly.

very light cosmetic scuffs but not very noticeable. unit was cleaned throughly after assembly.

don't have a way to check the optical output but should be fine.

-comes with power cord, bend diagram, and original owners manual

-support and warranty work covered for modifications

the e-mu command stations are perfect companions for the mm1 for a centerpiece for modular circuit bending over midi. there is no better way to sequence all your circuit bent devices than starting with one of the most powerful hardware sequencers ever made. modular sequencing and circuit bending is all possible through the e-mu command stations. the internal synthesizer in the command station is truly a powerful synthesizer and practically all waveforms within respond to the pressures of circuit bending. there are complex filters onboard and can virtually create any kind of circuit bent sound so long as you can picture it in your head. want a circuit bent speak and spell looping sound in one of the 32 sequencer tracks available? no problem. bend vocal roms applied with formant filters and will sound like a bent speak and spell. it does a whole lot more and covers alot of sonic territory within the onboad circuit bent synthesizer. the synthesizer sports a huge modulation matrix both in synthesis and circuit bending.

simple drum patterns are reconfigured rhythmically, tonally, and you can shape the circuit bent sounds any way you like with the powerful proteus 2000 synth engine onboard. 128 voices of sequenced mayhem is possible on this device. you can also add your controllers on top of the sequencer to any of the 16 voice parts. in addition to onboard sequencing you can sequence outboard midi gear. this makes it perfect companions with any spunkytoofers instruments with midi since they can integrate seamlessly.

the video below is a circuit bent e-mu mp7 and xl7 demonstration. both units are identically the same except they have different sound sets with the option to expand sound sets with rom simms. they both feature breakouts for spunkytoofers mm1 midi module expansion for modular circuit bending over midi.

1st demo [previously posted] is one pattern being mangled manual with a rotary patchbay

2nd demo [previously posted] is a midi multi-setup on the command station with setups for akai ewi wind controller, akai mpk25 keyboard and sequenced drones being interjected sporadically. all sounds are arbitrarily circuit bent throughout the demo via midi. the command station itself is used over midi to trigger it's own bends."

circuit bent alesis qsr synthesizer by spunkytoofers

via this auction
"the following audio is simple trigger from a toy midi keyboard (no velocity, midi controllers, etc) for triggering some of the presets on the qsr. the audio was recorded direct from outputs with no signal processing used at all. these are just snippets tied together. check out the other sound files at the end of the auction as well as a video. the demos at the end show that the qsr can be played with stability without any sampling, editing, signal processing, etc. to form musical statements and performances in realtime."

circuit bent alesis qsr demo by spunkydoodle

"-freely routed and stackable 24 point patchbay located on 4-12 position rotary knobs indicated in gold chrome

-24 point patchbay effects oscillator waveforms (glitches, cutups, extreme sound reconfigurations, extreme aliasing, sample rate effects, etc)

-9 point patchbay located on 2 rotary knobs indicated in copper chrome

-9 point patchbay effects FX section. delay cutups and glitches, extreme feedbacks, etc)

-each switch activates a corresponding colored leds to indicate which knobs are connected.

-one sample rate knob indicated in chrome and red jewel. controlled by getlofi 1799 precision oscillator for over 2 and half octaves controls of sample rate

-one sample rate switch selects between original clock and precision oscillator control

-one switch dedicated to input either by onboard knob or external controllers (see back panel)

-indicator lights for midi controlled relays activity

-one overall power led indicator in blue behind vintage milk white glass lens

-internal battery removed and replaced with a user servicable battery clip and a fresh battery

-one midi input for midi controlled relays. activates any of the front panel 12 point rotary switches together

- 3 extra midi controlled relays on back panel indicated in yellow. connects to external gear and circuit bent devices with banana jacks

-db25 expansion port- for use with spunkytoofers mm1 midi devices

-2 midi thru ports

-1 heavy duty toggle selects between internal midi circuitry or bypassing power to a mm1 unit.

-two banana jacks indicated in black and red to supply power to compatible spunkytoofers devices

-effects banana jacks indicated in blue and white. plug either midi controlled relays, switchboxes for extra control over fx section

-bend diagram and pdf manual forwarded to winning buyer

in my opinion the qsr is the most expressive circuit bent instrument ever. not only because of the deep modulation matrix involved but because it has the smoothest sample loop points and triggering for legato playing. you'd be very hard pressed to find another synth that does circuit bent solo leads as well as this. it also works very well in multitimbral mixes. in addition it has one of the fastest midi response rates available in synths of today and yesteryears.

the qsr is something i make very rarely so if you want this be sure to bid. the qsr is in perfect operating condition with the production sticker stating that this was one of the very last few leaving the factory. that ensures that you are getting the newest qsr possible.

the following audio is played in realtime with no processing by an akai ewi. two notes at a time can be triggered from the wind controller"

spunkytoofers fortune cookies: series of chaotic speech synths based on the vtech talking whiz kid circuit. each one in the series will be unique and an exploration into different interfaces. the talking whiz kid when circuit bent is what i consider bends under the category of glitch stream. a device is bent into streaming a series of endless/random flow of glitches and further bends will determine the course of it's flow or interruption of flow.

one handed demonstration although the unit was designed to be played with both hands."

circuit bent zoom 505 lofi multi fx synth pedal

via this auction
"circuit bent zoom 505 'digital artifact' by spunkytoofers

-14 circuit bends on switches.
-1 continous sample rate/bitcrush knob
-2 body contacts for bit rate body contact control
-1 resonance knob with on/off soft button switching
-1 lfo rate knob- pulls up to activate lfo modulation
-1 lfo depth knob
-1 new stock vintage soft glow red led with brushed aluminum housing for lfo activity indication
-rehousing on sloped enclosure with side handlebar hardware which gives a flat clearance above the circuit board
-circuit board mounted on binding posts with all editing and tactile functions easier to access then before
-retains all original functionality
-runs on powersupply (included for north american buyers only) or battery with 9 volt battery clip mod (battery not included)
-pdf manual and bend diagram forwarded to winner

I choose to remove the original zoom housing since the original housing seemed harsh on the onboard click buttons which controls the zoom pedals editing, patch settings, and on/off. the buttons are still easily accessible by hand and blends itself well to the hands on tweak friendly interface.

the zoom features several effects available which have great results when circuit bent. some effects are insanely harsh and i prefer to turn these effects off or tweaking effect parameters by programming the zoom. the zoom has quite a few number of patch storage spaces so you can save your custom bent lofi creations. i can not stress this enough!!!!!!it is absolutely imperative that the potential buyer is willing to spend time to setup and learn how to edit the zoom. it is not that hard to edit and a manual will be provided for you to learn the basic interface and edit capabilities of the multi effects onboard the zoom."

"spunkytoofers digital artifact lofi synth pedal. circuit bent zoom 505.

two part demo. first demonstration is a casio vl tone being processed by the 505. a patch was edited and stored on the zoom and demonstrates how the bends effect the patch as a whole. the 2nd demo shows another custom fx patch which in turn further processed by the spunkytoofers rabbit hole delay. both fx units in the demo add some foot controllers to play. both are a very formidable lofi processing and synth combination.

the zoom pedal when circuit bent sounds best with filters, modulation and delays as well as some amp simulators. some of the effects in the multi algorithm get extremely harsh and does not play nice with the bends, therefore it is absolutely necessary to edit custom patches with those that play with the bends nicely. circuit bends mostly involve timbre, lofi bit crushing, but also creates nice chaotic resonant filtering, lofi synth textures, random melodies, and all kinds of digital artifacts. i'm still playing around setting up the zoom to see what plays best together but it makes for a wild but controllable lofi synth pedal. better look: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2785/4..."

circuit bent alesis qsr modular synthesizer

YouTube via spunkytoofers. follow-up to this post.
"spunkytoofers wavescaper- circuit bent with a midi interface that allows every bend to be open source/destation controlled under midi cc, program change, and sequenced under midi notes. destinations include effects bends, oscillator bends, stacked bends, sample rate on/off, and independant midi controlled outputs to synch to external gear including the option to interface with other spunkytoofers instruments. interface aligns a 24 point patchbay bend configuration to be selected quickly on the fly which allows real time bent sequencing over an intuitive interface for oscillator or effects.

this demo merges an akai ewi4000s wind controller and the dave smith evolver which is sending it evolving sequence information. the ewi is used as cross modulation to the sequences, note information, envelope control, filter control, as well as controlling sample rate at certain times. no external processing: sound output is directly from the alesis and it's onboard circuit bent quadraverb fx processor
