Synthpond driving MKS-80 via OSC/Pd
Synthpond driving MKS-80 via OSC/Pd from Chris Randall on Vimeo.
"As the title says. Synthpond running on my iPhone is talking to Pd via OSC. I made a patch to turn the Synthpond OSC data in to MIDI notes. I've got Pd sending MIDI to Cubase via MIDI Yoke.
The MKS-80 is receiving note data from MIDI Yoke in Cubase. All effects are from an H8000FW except reverb, which is [redacted].
Regarding the specific Pd patch, I've got the Synthpond /freq to MIDI note, and /life to velocity. Now that I've got the proof-of-concept out of the way, I'll probably route xPos and yPos to CC data to control panning and such, and perhaps wire the Synthpond affectors to fire something else. Once I have the patch more usable, I'll put it up for download on Analog Industries."

synthpond
YouTube via wiretotheear
"My favorite music application for the iPhone is called synthPond. Above is a video of six compositions I created using synthPond. Using "effector nodes" and "reactor nodes" that can orbit around each other while changing pitch you can create some wonderful sequences. A big thanks to Zach Gage for creating such a terrific app! I can't wait for future versions of synthPond."

synthPond + OSC
synthPond + OSC from zach on Vimeo.
"Thanks to my musical friend Carlos Hernandez.. Just showing off some of the new features coming up in synthPond 2.5. Showing how synthPond can integrate with MAX/MSP (or any OSC device) wirelessly.
I know it sounds a little odd, but what's cool about it is that even though i'm no good with max, you can basically make it sound any way you want!"

Synthpond 2.0 Now Available
"synthPond is a relaxing spatial sequencer and audio toy.
Unlike a normal sequencer where you place notes on a grid and a moving playhead plays them, in synthPond you place nodes in a field (pond).
There are two major types of nodes.
-Circular nodes release waves at certain intervals.
-Hard-edged nodes release waves when waves hit them
Moving these nodes about allows you to create complex and relaxing melodies.
Additionally, because all the nodes are spatially organized, the audio generated can also be placed in a 3D space, occurring around the listener coming from the relative positions of each node. synthPond was built with mobileFrameworks, an iPhone related c++ library for artists"

random synthpond beats
random synthpond beats from isnie zot on Vimeo.
"I bought the synthpond app a couple of days ago and here's one of my first experiments with it.
I'm using the synthpond PD patch to controle the FPC in FL studio. The sound generator nodes don't have samples mapped (except for the hi-hats). Only the reactor nodes are mapped to a sample. that way it's a bit easier to "sync" everything.
I have all the channels muted and I unmute them along the way to show you how the patch is built up."

A New World in Synthesis
YouTube via Pic2008Lex
Note the above video does not feature any synths. It is a concept video for a tablet UI. The hardware looks like the majority of artist renders for the upcoming Apple iPad/iSlate. If you haven't heard, tomorrow, Apple will announce their new tablet device. Rumor is it will essentially be an iTouch with a 10" screen, more power, memory and may have the ability to run multiple apps at the same time. [Update: it most likely will]
Why is this a new world in synthesis? In short this is a new hardware platform for synthesis. Yes it is an extension of the iTouch platform, but the obvious key difference and game changer in my opinion will be the size of the screen. For example, imagine controlling all of your synths running Numerology on the device in that video. Imagine interfacing with your modular with a UI optimized version of VOLTA or Expert Sleepers. Imagine running Way Out Ware's iSample, or how about an ARP2600 emulation with sliders. Imagine running Audio Damage's tattoo on one, etc. And don't forget the accelorometer. Processing power, additional memory, and potentially running multiple apps at once will only add to the advantage the slate will have over the iTouch.
