Pics of the inside below.

"This is the flagship vocoder from Synton, and is among the best vocoders of all time. It shares company with the EMS 5000 and the Sennheiser VSM-201 vocoder.

It's really rare, only 20 pieces was made.

The face of the unit is without blemish. The pots feel smooth and as new, no pins are missing and all LEDs work as new.
When I got it five years ago, a CA3080 in it nearly 'exploded'. I got in touch with the Synton factory in Netherlands they informed me that this is a type bug and suggested to replace all of them. I decided to do that, and with this I replaced the condensers as well. (In the link below you can see pictures about the repair)

A technician has gone over it thoroughly, and couldn't find a fault.I used it also and found everything in a perfect state.

I provide a video and other infos about the product on the special tumblr page which I made for this project: syntovox221.tumblr.com"

Synton Syntovox 222 Vocoder

via this auction

"The Syntovox 222 is one of the rarest vocoders around , next to the units from EMS and Sennheiser.

It sounds very good but different to a SVC 350. The quality of this unit is definitely equal to a SVC 350, which is in my opinion the best vocoder around. This Synthovox 222 has only slight wear. All lamps and switches work as they should, the pots work without crackling. The Syntovox was proffesionally cleaned and it is in excellent technical and optical condition. Works with 220V."

Synton Syntovox 221 Vocoder

via this auction

"This is the flagship vocoder from Synton, and is among the best vocoders of all time. It shares company with the EMS 5000 and the Sennheiser VSM-201 vocoder. This particular unit was in fact used by Wendy Carlos, but that is not as interesting as how it sounds, nor as interesting as how nice the condition of this vocoder is.

The face of the unit is without blemish. The pots feel smooth and new, no pins are missing and all LEDs work as new. The power supply has been converted for US power and it even comes with original Synton literature - the original manual and informational documents from tradeshows back in the day. A technician has gone over it thoroughly, early last year, and couldn't find a fault...

This auction includes:
- Synton Syntovox 221 Vocoder
- Synton Syntovox 221 PSU w/ a little note to Wendy Carlos taped to it, from back in the day ;-]
- Cable for connecting the 221 to the PSU
- Original documents"

Synton Syntovox 222

images via this auction

"Synton Syntovox 222. As VC-10 VP330 Moog EMS SVC350 A+
110v or 220v configuration.
On auction this rare and vintage analog vocoder by Synton from the Netherlands. In production during the golden age of analog synthesizers Synton has gained cult like status by making superb gear like the Synton Syrinx, vocoders, modular systems and the later produced Fenix. This is the Synton Syntovox 222 handbuild in The Netherlands, serial number 107.
Synton can be compared to EMS, Sennheiser, Roland SVC350/VP330 and other high end studio vocoder manufacturers. A very rare instrument indeed that produces some of the smoothest and silkiest vocoder sounds possible...WOW Synton was Wendy Carlos's favourite vocoder brand, Aphex Twin is known to love Synton etc etc... These machines can be found in boutique studios around the world. Machine is in excellent condition, looks great, all knobs in place only one white knob-inlay is missing. Great addition to high class analog studio. BUYER GETS TO CHOOSE 110V OR 220V."

You can find some more images not included in the auction here. While there be sure to check out the header menu where you will find some other rarities including nice shots of the MOOG MinitMoog.

AnalogFX VXC-2220 Vocoder Based on the Syntovox 222

video upload by AnalogFX

AnalogFX VXC-2220

video upload by M01C Modular

"AnalogFX made the VXC-2220. A clone of the Synton 222 Vocoder. Both Dutch companies.
You can use it as a vocoder or as a filter bank. Using it as a filter bank requires attenuators, lfo's, or envelope generators.

0:00 Dry vocal
0:37 Vocoding voice
1:05 Different modulator
1:38 Vocoding beats
1:55 Different modulator
3:24 Spectral transfer
4:54 Noise through filterbank (LFO's/Chaos)
5:56 NW1 through filterbank (Envelopes)

In this demo I used MI Braids ( /| x 3) and MI Rings (Chords) as a carrier for the vocoder. Besides speech as a carrier, I used some simple 808-ish pattern. For the filter bank I used noise and a NW1 as the carrier. Used MI Peaks, MI Stages to trigger the filters (Synthesiser inputs) or 2hp LFO, Joranalogue Orbit3, Ginko TTLFO"

via this auction

"Nice clone of Syntovox 222 vocoder. V1 model, no phantom power on mic in. Used it for line (drum) processing anyway. Impressive spectral twisting but I don't have the room for it."

[DEMO] Dynacord Vocoder SRV-66 = Synton Syntovox 222

Published on Jun 6, 2013 LESINDES·94 videos

"The Dynacord SRV-66 Vocoder is a liscensed clone of the SYNTOVOX 222 made by the legendary Dutch company Synton. It is also labelled ECHOLETTE SEV-66. All the three vocoders are identical.
They have 20 bands (10 for analysis and 10 for synthesis) and a voiced-unvoiced detector. The comprehensibility of speech is very good.
Is to be used very easily and intuitively.
The sound is much better than that of its peers: Korg VC-10 and Roland SVC-350.
The recordings were made with SHURE SM58 or MACHINEDRUM UW-2 fed in the SPEECH inputs and SIEL ORCHESTRA 2 as the carrier. So the basic signal is all SRV-66 -- no mixer is involved!"

"Roland system 100m Synthovox arp 2600 Doepfer"

Anyone know where to find any decent shots of the Synthovox? Surprisingly I have zero posts mentioning it. It's a vocoder according to sequencer.de. No pics there as well. Funny side note: a Google image search on Synthovox brings up seqquencer.de's vocoder shots only. Every single shot goes to sequencer.de. He has a monopoly on Synthovox image search!!! ;)

Update vid eZe in the comments:

"Try seaching for Syntovox, it's the spelling.. :-)
Synton vocoder models 202, 222 & 221... very nice.
Cheers,
Eric"

Sure enough I do have some posts: link

Kasper plans to post something next week as well. I should catch it in my YouTube subscription.

SYNTON COLLEGE KLEINER SYNTH

Spotted this one over on sequencer.de. No info, just the pic. I've never seen one before. Synton of course made the Syrinx, Fenix semi-modulars, individual modules, the syntovox vocoders and more. See the Synton channel label for everything Synton.

Looking at the panel, we have two VCOs, a VCF, VCA, PRM?, Noise, P2 input/attenutaor modulation section?, P3, P4, P5 input/mixer/attenuators along the right, Envelope, LFO, Sample & Hold, Volume?, built in speaker!?, MIDI in?,  P5 attenuator, Inverter, Buffer and Trigger patch points on the left.

If anyone has any additional info on this one, please chime in.  Curious when it was released, how many, and what it sounds like of course.

Update via 7ate9 in the comments.

"looks like a version of the Synton College -->"

NLC MUN Vocoder

video upload by Steve Castellano

"Richard Feynman out of a Morphagene into the MUN with Plaits (Knit) in chord mode as a carrier source. Reverb and delay by Monsoon. Chord changes are controlled by Pressure Points/Brains, with one channel taking care of pitch and another adjusting chord forms."

via Nonlinearcircuits

"This module is a 22HP 10 channel vocoder based on the Syntovox 222. I own a 222 and have always been impressed with the sound and elegant design, so it was an easy choice of where to start.

The initial design for this module was 42HP with all the fruit – variable envelope lengths, envelope outputs and inputs, filter outputs and inputs, pause stuffing, external noise input, separate carriers for odd/even channels, etc. and it sucked; way too finicky to use.

So I stripped it back to a more minimal version and am much happier with it.

For the Voice section, there is a TRS/mono 6.35mm input for mics, a stereo/mono 3.5mm input for line level sources and a synth level input.

The Carrier section has a synth level input only.

There is no voice/unvoiced switching. Noise from a transistor based source is mixed with the Carrier signal on channels 9 & 10. Pots can control the noise level and the colour (pink/white).

There are jacks for each frequency channel and the envelopes generated. You can also patch in signals to stimulate the carrier signal on the corresponding channel."

Vocoder 222 by Techninaro

video upload by Lackan

"This is a demo of the Vocoder 222 prototype by a Gothenburg-based developer. Inspired by the legendary Syntovox 222 it really sounds fantastic, not many knobs but instant sweet spots and that really old school analog vocoder sound."

"Vocoder 222 is a 100% analog 10-band vocoder inspired by the legendary Synthovox 222.

It is assembled in a sturdy high quality black powder painted metal case with a retro look.

Neutrik connectors and long life high quality potentiometers fastened to the case provides a great user feel.

The heart of this vocoder consist of about 500 surface mounted components. Thanks to modern and smaller components we achieved this compact size compared to old rack-mounted vocoders.
Its powered by a standard 5V USB battery pack for great mobility or a standard USB adaptor (not included - please use only high quality parts).

For now this is only a very limited run that can be purchased in Sweden only."
