"MFOS Studios - Ray Wilson"

Camille Saint-Saƫns - Danse Macabre

Uploaded by theraywilsonshow on Jan 7, 2012

"Danse Macabre voiced with the Sound Lab ULTIMATE using MIDI to CV and SONAR Producer. Produced by Ray Wilson at MFOS Studios. I'm having so much fun with my Mark II that it's probably illegal. The MFOS delayed mod and the MFOS control voltage and gate distributor were used along with the Sound Lab Mark II. I like how this came out and I hope you do as well."

The MFOS Synth-DIY Experimenter PC Board

YouTube via theraywilsonshow | September 02, 2010

"If you've been wanting to get started in synth-diy by building a cool sound effect box you can't do better than this project. You will have a veritable plethora of sound generating devices in the palm of your hand although I recommend some kind of case (last joke I promise). This board is packed with simple circuits that sound cool. You'll be surprised by the number of sound possibilities it supports. You don't have to build all of the modules either. You can just build what you want to make a specific sound. You want wind... just build the White Noise Generator and one VCF. You want better wind build the White Noise Generator both VCFs and the output mixer. How about birds or bell sounds... just build the Sound Effect Oscillators an AR Envelope Generator and an LFO. You can go as far as you like with this project."

Sound Lab ULTIMATE

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"This video describes the Sound Lab ULTIMATE. The latest project from Music From Outer Space. This is the largest most feature-rich single board analog synthesizer offered by MFOS. It is a challenging but very rewarding project. I offer an excellent quality PCB and professionally machined and silk-screened front and auxilliary panels for this project but as always you can make your own if you like. The synth's front panel is explored and several sample sounds are provided to show off some of the ULTIMATE's capabilities."

The 16 Step Sequencer Vari-Clock Quantizer Presentation

YouTube Published on Jun 7, 2012 by theraywilsonshow

"This is a demonstration of the features of the new Vari-Clock Quantizer for the MFOS 16 Step Sequencer. You can make one yourself but it's a very challenging project and I don't recommend it for people just getting started. Seasoned synth-diyers will have no problem with this project. PC boards will be available in a few weeks if you're interested (sometime in June 2012). Here is a link to the project:

Meditation 001 15 Minutes of Synthetic Rain.wmv

YouTube Uploaded by theraywilsonshow on Mar 8, 2012

"MFOS modular in a totally non-tonal synthetic rain patch. Random gates, noise, sample and holds, filters galore, and VCOs all combine to form rain, thunder, dripping water and a droning plane that comes and goes. Various weather related photos in this video are courtesy of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This is the first in the Meditations series and I find it very relaxing. I hope you enjoy it. Produced by Ray Wilson at MFOS Studios."

MFOS Multi-Function Module

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"Hi this is the same video as the previous one with a couple of minor tweaks where I noticed I forgot to do transitions between clips and stuff nothing major. If you already saw the previous one there is nothing new. This video demonstrates the functionality of the MFOS Multi-Function Module (MFM). It has a linear lag processor, an RC lag processor, two 3 input DC voltage mixers with bias control and normal and inverted outputs and lastly a voltage meter with +/-1V, +/-5V, +/-10V ranges. It's a "Swiss Army Knife" module and you can use all or part of it in your application. "

Sound Lab Mark II Driven By Sequencer

YouTube Published on Jun 5, 2012 by theraywilsonshow

"Hi All, Ray Wilson of Music From Outer Space here. I set the sequencer controls for the heart of the sun... Just kidding but I did set it for a sequence you're probably very familiar with (E-G-A-G-D-C-D-E). In any case I had been asked to put up a video demoing the Sound Lab Mark II actually making sound instead of just me droning on about it so this is straight from the Sound Lab Mark II. It's a little long perhaps even boring at times but it goes through a number of timbres and effects that the Sound Lab Mark II can make. It's a great project and a really nice little synthesizer. The Sound Lab Mark II Project can be found here: http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/index.php?MAINTAB=SYNTHDIY&PROJARG=SOU...

The surgeon general has determined that listening to this demo will NOT make your arms as hairy as mine are. Yes, I know my arms are hairy... I didn't ask for it they just came this way. I'm OK with it. They seem to work fine."

The Ray Wilson Show November 2009 WLT

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"Another hilarious episode of the Ray Wilson show. The new smash comedy hit that has the entire world talking and falling out of their seats. Conan and Jay and Jimmy eat your hearts out. If anyone knows Conan or Jay or Jimmy personally and recommends the Ray Wilson show to them and they ask me to write for them and pay me lots of dough I will buy that person a Ferrari once I have enough surplus money to afford one which may regrettably take a while."

"A moderately funny observational humor show (smash hit hiliarious new wow... phhht). I got some good comments which led me to augment the video with audio of a focus group of people laughing while watching the video... OK I'm lying I added a laugh track at the request of millions of viewers. Ok one viewer. OK if you don't like the first ten seconds I recommend that you move on to the next piano playing cat video because it doesn't get a whole lot better but it keeps me out of the bars."

MFOS Noise Toaster Presentation

YouTube Published on Aug 9, 2012 by theraywilsonshow

"Hey everyone... YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS!

The MFOS Noise Toaster is the latest LO-FI project we've come up with deep in the MFOS underground lab. I really think people who attend noise fests, noise battles, synth-diy meets, the symphony (alright maybe not the symphony...) are going to consider this standard equipment (symphony during intermission may be OK). I have to say that in some places having this much fun with a single nine volt battery might just be totally illegal so be careful where you bring it! The Noise Toaster has: One wide range VCO, a WHITE NOISE GENERATOR, a simple but fun VCF, a simple but effective VCA, an AR envelope generator, an LFO with several waveforms, a line out jack, and a nicely normalized switching scheme. But wait... there's more! Last but not least we've put a 1W amp and speaker right into the unit. I want to emphasize that this device is LO-FI. It is not a temperature compensated, V/Octave trackin, needs calibratin', must have highest quality components - kind of thing. This thing is just a freakin' blast to goof with. Prepare to create a limitless cadre of amazing and unusual sounds. And of course there will be mods in the future. How about connecting your WSG to the Noise Toaster's filter and VCA... I already put some pads on the PC board to facilitate it. You could even modulate the Noise Toaster with the WSG (pads for that too)! I plan to offer kits and PC boards as well as complete units. I'll put a blurb on the MFOS home page when the project is posted.

Why is it called the "Noise Toaster" you ask? Well, what would you call something that has a bunch of knobs and switches that, when twiddled, cause unusual sounds and noises to pop out? Right... Then... On to the next project.

Thanks for watching."

Hypno Sequence

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"This composition was made using my MFOS modular. The sequence was made with the MFOS 16 step sequencer. The drums were added by hand playing my Korg N1 jazz kit. The lead utilizes stereo panning and sync effects. The effects were added during mix down with SONAR Home Studio 6."

The Making Of ELECTROLUMINESCENCE

YouTube via theraywilsonshow

"ELECTROLUMINESCENCE is the first CD I have offered featuring my MFOS modular synthesizer and the ULTIMATE semi-modular synthesizer. Some of these pieces are original minimalistic ambient sound-scapes to think by and others are complete musical works by classical composers. I think of these as aural landscapes or bath salts for your ears. I believe they will help you meditate, relax and unwind. They are also handy for noisy work spaces where they can help you stay focused and avoid the distraction that comes with indirectly hearing other conversations, phone calls, P.A. systems, etc. They are popular at the Parker Recreation center (Parker, CO) and are used in yoga classes and Thai massage therapy sessions. Thought you might enjoy a little inside look at making the CD."

MFOS VCO Calibration Part I

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"In this video I show how to calibrate an MFOS oscillator in which I have used a hand matched pair of 2N3904 NPN transistors. I tried to get this down to one ten minute video but I just couldn't. It is now a two part series. This is part I. I am able to achieve 8 octaves of range. If you have not read the article on Practical Transistor Matching on MFOS at http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/an... you might enjoy it."
