John Bowen Solaris - Modulating the Decimator with Envelope Generator

Published on Aug 6, 2013 zibbybone·124 videos

"So I went to GC today to 'test drive' the King Korg to get my free T-Shirt. I was having lots of fun controlling its decimator in real time. I asked the sales person if you could control it from an EG and the reply was 'I don't think so'.

Ah, but you can with the Solaris. Here's a simple patch using the 'Jaws' waveform (supersaw) while I tweak EG2 to modulate the decimator. Not anything super musical, but just a quick demonstration of just a taste of the Solaris' modulation capabilities."

"Sorry about the distortion. I've got the John Bowen Solaris playing a slow arpeggio which has a bit crusher being modulated by a slow LFO while I improv on the Roland JD-800."

Kawai SX-210 Polyphonic Synthesizer Demo

Uploaded on Jan 16, 2010 zibbybone·118 videos

"The first and last minutes of this video feature effects (reverb & delay) from the Roland Fantom X6, but the rest is straight, dry SX. Its strings patches with internal chorus engaged are reminescent of the string synths of the 70's like the Solina. Not a bad little synth for the money. No sliders, but all programming is done by selecting a switch for the parameter to edit and changing the value with an "alpha" dial. Not sure if the patches in this synth are factory or not as I was not original owner (nor do I still own this synth)."

Thought I posted this one before, but apparently not. Click here for a ton of zibbybone synth videos previously posted. I spotted this one on Computer Music Guide.

Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter & MPG-80 Programmer FOR SALE

YouTube via zibbybone
"Not one of my better videos, this is mainly to show that both of these units work. I believe the MKS-80 is a Rev. 4 (SN: 460xxx). The MPG has some rust spots, but still works as it should. Synth requires standard 2 prong power cable (not included) and programmer requires 6 pin DIN cable (not included). Prices are $1200 for MKS-80 and $800 for MPG-80 (plus shipping). PayPal accepted and I will only ship to CONFIRMED addresses. I will consider an Alesis Andromdeda an even trade for both units."

Linn LM-2 LinnDrum Vintage Drum Machine Basic Demo

YouTube Uploaded by zibbybone on Jan 11, 2012

"I [zibbybone] made this video to demonstrate the basic functions of the LM-2 LinnDrum drum machine and to embed it in my eBay listing, but I just sold it to a local. I start off with a 2 bar pattern featuring every available sound. Next, I demonstrate the stock sounds except the toms are "Toms6", more of an electronics "Simmons" style instead of acoustic toms. I also demonstrate the tuning ability of the snare, sidestick (chained to snare's pitch), toms and conga as well as the closed hihat decay. The LinnDrum has 5 trigger inputs which can be assigned to any of the onboard sounds. Here, I use a Roland TR-707 to trigger the LM-2's kick, snare, sidestick, closed hihat and clap than then program a pattern on the 707. You can hear some double triggering on the kick and clap, so it's best to experiment with different sounds as your sources to trigger the LM-2. Ideally, you want sounds with sharp attacks and instant decays. I finish off the video with a pattern based on Don Henley's "Sunset Grill".
Be sure to subscribe to be notifed of future videos! Thanks for watching!"

How To Properly Pack A Synth or Keyboard For Safe Shipping by zibbybone

Published on Jul 6, 2014 zibbybone

"A couple of years ago, I made a video on how to pack a 1U rack unit for shipping and had many requests to make a video showing how to pack a keyboard. So here you go. It's pretty much common sense, but I am still surprised by the poor packing jobs on gear that I buy from individuals (and some businesses).

Cheesy background music by yours truly with a Roland Fantom X6 & Novation Bass Station 2."

zibbybone Happy 909 Day! 2020

zibbybone

"Thought I'd make a quick (and sloppy) video for 909 day. Am I the only one that uses the 909's External Instrument Mode? I'm using that to play a bass line on the Jupiter 6. 909's trigger out is driving the SH-101's arpeggiator. Yeah, I need to get those pots cleaned on the 909."

Roland Jupiter 4 and TR-606 Experiment

YouTube Published on Jun 2, 2012 by zibbybone

"I was messing with my JP-4 today and noticed that not only can you sync the arpeggiator to external clock, but there is a sample and hold like feature labeled VCF MOD that can sync to external clock. So I've got a minimalist beat on the 606 running through the Korg Kaoss Pad Quad using its looper (for snare fills), decimator and reverb/delay and the Jupiter 4 running through the Dark Matter preset on the Eventide Space. I tried to come up with some other stuff to add with my FIZMO and JD-800, but decided to record this experiment before going to bed. Maybe I'll come back to it sometime."

JL Cooper Sound Chest II Digital Drum Module

Published on Apr 29, 2016 zibbybone

"Here's a quick demonstration of the rare JL Cooper Sound Chest II digital drum module. It comes with with its own EPROMs of standard drum kit sounds and is supposed to be able to use EPROMs from Linn, Oberheim and Simmons drum machines and modules. Sounds can be triggered either by MIDI or drum pads via trigger inputs. In this video, I'm using a Roland Fantom X6's rhythm programmer to trigger the SC2's sounds via MIDI. Front panel controls allow you to adjust volume, pitch, tuning via dynamics, filter via dynamics and decay."

Using Arturia MiniBrute's Multimode filter to process Roland TR-707 Drum Machine

YouTube Published on Jul 12, 2012 by zibbybone

"I don't think anyone has touched on the fact that the Arturia MiniBrute's multimode filter can process external instruments. Here, I'm running a Roland TR-707 drum machine through the MiniBrute's filter. Be sure to switch the Gate Source switch on the rear of the MiniBrute to "Audio" and have fun!"

Yamaha CS-15 Synthesizer Demo (FOR SALE)

YouTube via zibbybone. Yamaha CS-15 on Ebay
"Running through some of the basic features of this cool little synth. Many call it "Two-Synths-In-One" becasue it has 2 VCOs, 2 mixers, 2 VCFs, 2 VCAs and 2 EGs which can be controlled together with the built-in keyboard or independently via CV/Gate (seperate control inputs for VCO 1&2 and EG 1&2). First, I step through the basic waveforms (both VCOs have Triangle, Ramp and variable Pulse waves. Mixer 1 /VCF 1 allows input of VCO 1 and noise or external input. Mixer 2 / VCO2 allows input of VCO 1&2. Both VCOs are selectable resonant multi-mode filters (Low Pass, Band Pass and High Pass) allowing for some interesting filtering. There is a left hand modulation lever to adjust the frequency cut-off of either or both filters in real time. Next I run a Korg DDM-110 Super Drums into the external input. Lastly, I hook up a Korg MS-20 to the CS-15's OSC1 CV input and EG1 trigger input (both machines use Hz/oct scaling as opposed to the more common Volt/Oct scaling). This synth is for sale (I have another) and I am entertaining offers over $650. It is missing 2 slider caps and there is a burn mark on the right side new the power switch."
